4003s is the easier one to play fingerstyle, no binding, no sharp edges to rip your wrist. Lacquered fretboard (now discontinued). V2 bridge, massive improvement imo. Vintage tone pot (I don't like!). Case & candy. Weight 9lb 20z nut 42.4mm One main chip, a few smaller ones, this bass gets gigged. Mods. Rickysound vintage TRC in black. Rickysound black plate Hosco Jazz style rotary knobs Retrovibe pickup surround with thumb hole (I was going to spray that black but.............) All original parts included, all mods easily undone. New Superbrights 35-95. Very nicely set up, it's actually a joy to do with the V2 bridge. I will do my best to remove my DNA that the photos show 😊 Collection from Darlington, half way meet or organise/pay for your own courier. Thanks for looking, Karl.

I asked @Hamster about revisiting Rick sales late last year. I'm now a little confused. Can we sell genuine Rickenbacker's on here now, or not?

Fender Japan Precision Standard J Craft series 2004 - *SOLD*

If you look at any of these J-Craft basses from this year, they have Made in Japan on the headstock but no country of origin above the neck serial number. As I understand it, they are from the Crafted In Japan years. I think it may be they were non-export but I'm no expert on the vagaries of Fender Japan production/serialising. The nut is a fraction shy of 42mm, the 40 mm Japan P's you refer to are the 70's re-issues. -

As per title. £650 collected from Darlington with hard case, £620 with no case or gig bag. A Fender Precision bass, Made in Japan by people in a factory putting bits of wood, plastic & metal together. Sounds like a Precision. Weight 9lb 5oz. New Dunlop Superbrights 40 to 100 New black scratchplate custom made by Bass Doc to give it a more 70's look. Original white plate included. A better advert than mine, link. https://www.gasstationguitars.com/product-page/fender-japan-2004-vintage-white-standard-precision-bass-cij ISSUES. Dent in back, a few tiny dints around the edges, difficult to photo. Saddle screws are daft high, it will bother some, it doesn't bother me, I don't know what palm mute means. Ahem. REASON FOR SALE. Object of lust has been spotted & funds towards it are required. MEET UP. Yes, will travel roughly as far as Alnwick, Penrith, Ferrybridge for a half way meet. COURIER. Yes, I give you weight & dimensions, you organise & pay for it. TRADES Very unlikely BUT if the object of my lust sells, I may well be tempted with an American Special P or Mex Road Worn P plus suitable quids your way. Fender Steve Harris Precision Mk11 MIJ
karlfer replied to karlfer's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
A couple of the guys have had discussions with this seller. He told one, the Mexico/Japan thing was due to him putting the wrong pictures up. Good work @smokyflipps TREAD WITH CARE it may be a bargain or it may not be what he shows it to be! I'd only buy face to face (9 hour round trip, I'm out). -

Try looking at the photos. I have a feeling the seller is not quite up to speed on basses or tech. -

Very poor advert on Gumtree. I spoke to him last week told him to put it on here. I guess he thought I was a scammer. Not sure if it's against the rules but it would be great if one of ours got it. It's got a few little chips around the rear strap button area but £600 including hard case is a lot less than the last 2 I've seen. It would have been me but for the 500 mile 9 hour + round trip. If anybody gets it, please let us know 🙂 https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/fender-precision-bass/1419212782

Does this work? - P Bass Pickguard quandary
karlfer replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
Black mirror for me Nick 🙂 -
As with many bass related things then, it's just an opinion. I asked simply because I have a 21 Indonesia CV 50's P. It is extremely good imo & perfectly capable of any gig I'm likely to do. I certainly don't feel the need to spend more on an earlier version because it was made in China, same as I wouldn't be as ridiculous to buy an overpriced over hyped JV. But that's also just an opinion.

How are they empirically better?

Might also be an idea to state your rough location, Basschat has local Fender experts all over 🙂 You may be able to take it to someone near to you to assess it.

Sanding neck, Fender fretboard refresher? Advice please.
karlfer replied to karlfer's topic in Repairs and Technical
Forgot about this, anyway done & gigged with , makes an already superb bass that bit better. Cheers all, really appreciated. -
As new, surplus to requirements. Scratchplate & tug bar removed for that JPJ/Sting look, both included. Unlike most early 50's re-issues this has the Tele style headstock BUT a modern C neck profile and a 41.3mm nut width. Not a baseball bat like most. It also has an arm contour, another good thing. I'm taking a £100 hit on this after about 3 months of it sat there doing nowt. Truss rod nut is not made of cheese unlike some of the 2020 basses. I've set this up for me & there were no problems with the truss rod nut at all, moves both ways. I don't want a trade but I do keep looking at the Squier CV 70's Precision especially the black with black blocks. And I'm weak. Collection from Darlington preferred, try through your rig or mine. I will meet up within about 50 miles Courier. I'll box it & give you the dimensions, you would need to organise & pay. That way you will know how much courier insurance costs! Feedback Thanks for looking, Karl.
