1.
Try my two green basses and tell me they're light I dare you
Ah, but are they of PUREST green m'lord?
2. I took the Shuker (battered) Precision type as part ex on my Rick El Dorado. If the Rick had actually sold I would have been looking very strongly at buying this back. Whilst these things are always opinion, this particular bass is one of the best jazzes I've owned. There has been a few Very surprised the two that are up are still here, but, sometimes timing is everything. This bass will sell.
3. Correct Jack. The law of the universe is that green basses are light. So, green bass, 4 string, non Fender with Fender decal and 4 inch strap are the only legally acceptable basses.
4. It happens Andy. One of them bought a bass at half the price, the other has just vanished. One of the gaytartists is away so no gigs until 24th Oct. In the absence of a sale, or part ex offers, I will probably gig it that night. It sounds great at home, if it sounds as good live, think I will just spend some gig money and ask Mr Shuker to turn it into the one on the right It will cost a lot less than most luthier custom jobs. obbm's feedback

It's all been said 305 times before but once again, top class bloke, product, service and price. It doesn't get any better anywhere for cables. Thanks yet again Dave, cheers, Karl.
6. An "all potential buyers gone awol" kinda bump. Beaten yes, but looking at custom build costs, I still think as a couple have said, this is a decent price for buyer and seller
7. Behave Tom I got a reply from Jon Shuker last night. I didn't copy it to here as there were two very keen to buy it last night. Both have gone awol since, despite having seen my reply to their messages. Anyway, from Mr Shuker; "Hi Karl Not a problem, yes i know the bass. It was originally built for a good friend of mine who was in a stranglers tribute band but wanted something a little different and suited to him. He wanted an uncarved, heavy white ash body…., maple neck and birdseye board. As I remember it had an incredible tone, I’ve listed the original spec below, it changed as my friend changed the bridge and the pickup, as well as the output jack location. 34” scale 20 frets maple neck birdseye maple fingerboard two way truss rod carbon fibre reinforcement brass nut Gotoh GB2 tuners Jumbo stainless steel fret wire black 6mm and 2mm position dots satin neck lacquer 2 piece white ash body - P bass shape, no carving polyester basecoat black polyurethane gloss topcoat black/white phenolic scratch plate chrome hardware originally - delano PMVC4 pickup volume, tone, side barrel jack (face jack added to s/plate) originally schaller 2000 bridge It was certainly well gigged…! best regards Jon "
8. Done a better job than me Mr Rock. Some good tips there as well, thank 'ee sir!
9. So, a week of soaking, odd bits of scrubbing and it's on it's way. You can see the screws at the side of the P pickup, all the hardware was like that. I'm going to replace those screws, they just won't clean up. I've got most of it off the pole pieces, mainly due to putting wd40 on with the cotton buds, leaving then very fine wet and dry. Saddles have been soaking for a week but nowhere near clean enough. I've decided to just keep doing a little bit more on the saddles and pole pieces every week. It's laborious and I have the attention of a dead gnat. Gotta say though, it set up very easily tonight and will eventually be one of my two gigging basses. Cheers, Karl. 10.
What really pisses me off. . . . is. . . . . Must be under 30!!!!!

Think of it as an IQ requirement.
BRILLIANT! Nicked
11. Many thanks all, appreciated. Pete1967, thanks for all that. A lady I believe to be Shaggy's significant other pm'd me on Facebook last night but she has gone quiet since I replied. Lozz, any ladies daft enough to ask me to live up to that, will certainly end up suing for false advertising Sorry for delay in reply, late from work last night and I've been a bit tied up dishing out some TLC to another bass. Mrs not happy,
12. Lightweight, I'm only confused when I'm awake
13.
Ah, I assumed at the very least that it would turn out to be a 'friends only' nickname for The Ox. We were in fact getting excited about a link to a bass player from a tribute act..........
Not quite Chris, but at least I now have a bit more knowledge about the bass . I knew somebody in the BC massive would know something. SO, IN CONCLUSION, beat up but great playing/sounding (imo) Shuker P style for sale at £850
14. As ikay informed, Shaggy is the bassist in a Stranglers tribute band called "Straighten Out". Looking at the link I provided, Shaggy is friends with Messrs Shuker and Burnell. I kind of had a thought this bass might have been the inspiration for the Shuker JJ Burnell sig model. I'm now thinking that thought is very probably bunkum. Other Shaggy s that I'm aware of. That rapper geezer The one in Rooby Rooby Dooo The early 1970's hair style Dog stories. And a code name for a subversive plot to drive Beedster potty
15. Superb ikay, many thanks for that! Nick and Chris, I would expect no less from you two Wayne58, yup, came from a rather famous (and really very nice) resident of Clitheroe, who is rather happy with the El Dorado he now owns. Alongside the most fantastic Candy Apple Red 68 jazz And boy can HE play!
16. I will. I am desperately trying not to jump to conclusions, but there is an interesting name on this article from Mr Shuker's website http://www.shukergui...uk/jjpbass.html (And I don't mean JJ himself )
17. I took this against my Rick El Dorado (obviously not on here). I have mailed Mr Shuker but if anybody knows anything about this bass, please let me know. OK, so what I know. Black, black, maple SERIOUSLY road worn, it has been played a lot. The fret board has some glorious birdseye stuff. SD Basslines pup, 44mm nut on a shallow fast neck, Gotoh bridge. On the front of the headstock is Shuker "The Shaggster", on the back is "Shaggy", Jon's sig/date 04/08 and a stamped 001. It's not light at 9lb 9oz, but it's not stupid heavy either and it balances well. Whilst it has a lovely "thump" boy can it GROWL!! It owes me £850, so that is collection from Wigan. Cash on collection, bank transfer or cleared cheque. Insured courier £35 UK mainland. Overseas, you will need to organise/pay for your own insured courier. Although this bass did not come with gig bag or case, I will include a very tatty but functional hard case, in the price. Feedback at bottom of post, any questions or no obligation trial in Wigan are very welcome. DID I MENTION it's very battle scarred Cheers, Karl. 18. Mexican Road Worn 60's Series Jazz, sell new for around £1150 now. Highly sought after by some. This is my old bass and IMO superb This is one of the first run, it's a cracker!
19. Well, if you are ever travelling up north.................
20. Really sorry this didn't work out for you Mike. My old bass and gutted I don't have the readies to buy it back. BUT, as Fagin might say "I am reviewing the situation" A slightly reluctant good luck regardless.
21. Sod it, PM incoming
22. Might be an idea if you answered questions members have put on here. The main one being would you consider trades.
23.
Good lord, looks lovely. Looks a great bass, Mr EAD is great to deal with, good luck but this should fly.
Seconded, two great jazzes Alain's got up now. Evil he is
24. Not tried anything yet and won't be doing so until the middle of next week. This is due to impending royal visit of my 83 year old mother. And this 57 year old having a few days of being treated like a 5 year old. Don't do that! What would your father say! You're not going to a gig dressed like that! A R***enbacker for a Led Zeppelin number???? My cup runneth over
25. Many thanks guys. A few years back, I had a Mex Precision Bass Special, Deluxe Series. They were only made 1999-2002, their predecessor was the California, their successor the current active Mex Deluxe. These basses are P/J pups, Jazz neck, Precision body, passive. Few who have had them dislike them. Stupidly I sold mine and I've only seen a couple come up over the last two years, both on FEEBay, at daft(£600 ish) prices. Anyhoo, managed to snag a black/maple/gold one on FEEBay last week, at a slightly more reasonable price. Turned up and it's a bit of a filthy, life evolving in parts, beater. It's obviously had a LOT of play, but it's light, sounds fantastic and is very versatile. Most of the sorting, I know how to do, in the main part because of brilliant guys like you lot, on Basschat, offering advice. The rust on pole pieces, I didn't know and was kinda thinking out loud with the cotton buds and wd40. My thanks (yet again) to the Basschat massive
