1.
I did add 'perhaps'..! You do as you please, of course, although I'm sorry that my 'contribution' disappoints you. It's not a question of affording the time or money, it's simply a matter of how much one wants something. If it's worth it, you do it; if it's not you don't. No big deal, either way. As for meeting halfway, I find that to be an excellent compromise, but it's also true that not all sellers have the wherewithal to do that, either. I don't really see what your beef is. If folks don't want the hassle and risk of posting, I can understand that, and live with it. I've had several guitars and basses arrive by post, and never a problem, but it's not always the case, as we see often in these columns. Still, if it bugs you, I can't do much more for you, I'm afraid. Life's a bitch, eh..?
Of course you can do more for me Douglas. Pop over to London, pick up a bass for me and head up to the cobbled part of the M6 Seriously though it does bug me, but with an attention span of a goldfish, I move on to my next moan quickly enough. Seriously though it does bug me, but with an attention span of a goldfish, I move on to my next moan quickly enough. Yours, Indigenous Moaner.
 2.
Disappointed..? Change your aspirations, perhaps..? It's true I don't see these 'problems' in the same light. When I found the Verithin I wanted advertised, I travelled to Nottingham to inspect it, and eventually buy it. I live in France. Similarly for my Hiwatt head. I came across with our youngest, as it's far too heavy for me alone. Pain in the rear, maybe, but I'd wait forever to find one locally, and boxing up a Hiwatt is not simple, either. It's a choice, that's all. I agree that packing anything up is always a possibility, and should not be beyond the scope of most folks, but by the same token, if it's too much bother to travel, stay with local sales, no..?
Why should I change my aspirations? It's simple enough, if somebody can't be arsed to box it up and use a fully insured courier then they will need to get somebody else's money. As long as they aren't moaning their tit's off about nothing selling here anymore. I'm quite happy to meet halfway, say Birmingham but few are prepared to do that without wanting petrol money, if at all. Statement on the football last night "it's quicker to get to London from Lilles than in is to get from London to Liverpool. Sorry Dad, not all of us can afford the time or money to pop over from France to Nottingham. In answer to another comment, I don't do PAINPal. bank transfer is easy enough.
 3. 10 hours plus £35 is a bit more effort than somebody who WANTS TO SELL having to spend an hour or so boxing/booking in. Disappointed in that response Dad
 4. Hauntedholloway, collection only. You're on your own with this one Ash
 5. I have just sold my SEI to a chap from the Guildhall music college. I have money burning a hole in my pocket. As a magpie gear whore, I need to spend it. There are 3 (edit, 4) splendid basses, either of which I would be happy to buy. All 3 (edit, 4) are London/SE All three are collection. This happens so many times, yet it really is not difficult to send a bass by insured courier. IF YOU MAKE THE EFFORT! 80% of the population lives away from London and the SE. London and the SE have access to better music stores than us provincial peasants, so if you are selling privately down there, you may have a bit more competition on your doorstep. "I don't trust couriers". If YOU can't put the effort in to courier a bass, expect a limited buying public for it. How the **** did your Fender, Rick, Lakland, Lull etc get to the UK in the first place, osmosis? Telekinesis? The Fender Bass Transportation on Fluffy Pillow Fairy?
 6. What's the nut width on this beauty then Si?
 7.
11lbs, no lightweight
Good spot!
 8. Yeah, I meant to have a punt on that Ash, when it was out at £599 start. Then I forgot this morning He was given it as a gift apparently. Think he should do the same for me
 9. Bugger! Er sorry, well done that man.
 10.
You would have had some overhang with that though Karl
For that, I would have happily done my MB'S the normal way. And probably bought a third Jeez, I MUST stop looking at this
 11. Lloyd, go to your 1st post. Click on edit. Click on "use full editor" Go to your actual title (FS/FT Ampeg SVT3............................) and make the changes you want in there. I do that to change messages, you will see my SEI now starts "on hold" Sorry about Phoenix mate, but you won't be out long. Top bloke peeps, deal with confidence. Karl.

 13.
+2 They are fabulous, great customer service too.
+ another one. Rothko and Frost
 14. Right, so if it's cocco's jazz necked Bob Glaub, I will be waiting for Tim's next burst of GAS
 15. Glasgow hit man (from THAT bar), £500 plus train fair. Check. Flowers for service £50. Check. Fuel for pick up £80. Check. My medication for slightly losing it in the face of a Dusty £15 Check. Jealous, moi? Fabulous trio.
 16.
We used to have a guitarist who like to tell us the money didn't matter because he was rich. He still expected his share, so I threw him out.
This I like. A lot
 17.
Sorry to quote you but it seems it's a 'house band' with none other than Mr Palladino on the bass. Well it is according to Ticketmaster!
Wowser, Palla! You should know better than to quote me, I only deal in vicious rumours and snide remarks
 18.
I like Fender. Quite a lot actually. I am, however, quite realistic in that I acknowledge they are not the be all and end all of P and J style basses. I don't necessarily agree with this point of view. I did have a slight hiccup with my Geddy Lee CS which was documented, but GAK bent over backwards to assist and in the end it wasn't necessary for me part with it even temporarily. All the CS's I have are astonishly good and I've played a good few to know the difference. Horses for courses really. I understand that price is a factor and a CS may not be within everyone's budget, so they go for an alternative. Completely understandable. For me though, the J and P shape are iconically Fender and if I'm going to buy one it may as well be manufactured by them. I still have yet to find anything even remotely in the ball park of the Dusty Hill CS. P body with a J neck through a single custom wound pick-up. It makes me smile every time I pick it up.
Gimme da Dusty
 19. Actually, don't do it until I've sold my SEI Bump.
 20. Sorry rockinbassman but there ARE people interested in this but, myself included, not without knowing the weight. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SOME OF US OLDER FOLK
 21. Think it's Who's Next, Craig Addecott's band, but don't quote me.
 22.
Cool - ok thanks, understood Didn't fully appreciate the difference in cost. I knew there was some logic behind it, given the support from bassists who seem passionate about nice instruments.
Sorry Dan, I came across as an arrogant tosspot. Which I am I'm just using any tactic to avoid finishing my year end accounts, to stave off the tears a little longer
 23.
Possibly controversial, but my very subjective experience/observation is that there's been a substantial increase in the number of buyers/sellers from outside the UK in recent years. They seem more likely to be selling high-end, exotic, high-priced basses than the more run-of-the-mill MIM Fenders and so on that we used to see on here. Again, extremely subjective, but for me, many of these sellers items are very over-priced and many of the buyers who get in touch are either complete time-wasters who disappear or looking for something for nothing, sometimes to the point of offense. That having been said, where I have bought or sold with guys overseas, the deals have been every bit as smooth as any from the UK. Also, in general, there used to be a kinda unwritten rule that if you bought a bass on here for a great price and decided to sell it on, you would generally sell it on at around the price you paid for it. Now, I see basses being advertised with £100s added to the price they were bought for only weeks before. None of this stops me buying or selling, it's just not as easy to do or, frankly, as nice to do as it used to be.
I'm just wondering if there are different availability issues on the continent. 3 of the last 4 basses I've sold on here have been £1000 plus which are high end used, to me anyway. They have gone to Sweden Germany and Spain and the guys involved were fabulous. Their English was better than mine Some stuff does go on at daft prices but I wonder if this is a knock on from FEEBay prices rocketing due to increased fees? Mind, when you see a used bass on here at £29 cheaper than a new one, then add on the £15 courier, so it's £14 cheaper than a new one with free delivery and full warranty
 24.
MB1. Shirt Supply?? ...Shirt? Where is Shirt?
Well done that man you passed the test Now suitably edited
 25.
Ok. So when you buy a '72 Jazz or whatever, you're buying it for the build / the sound / the heritage etc - the chipped paint and oxidised tuners, is just a by-product. Isn't this like putting a Jaguar e-type bodykit on a Ford Escort, or a fake Rolex? Yes it looks the part, but it just isn't?
Probably is, yup, but, if that's what I choose to spend my gig money on......................... Or put another way, dream bass, after ensuring everything is original, not fake etc, 63 Sea Foam Green Jazz with matching headstock, if one exists, if you can eventually find one, what, £6000 ish? Mark's Limelight, looks the part, plays superbly, puts a smile above my multi chins at every gig, way under £1000 and not afraid to gig it at this weeks Dog and Duck. Horses for courses, don't knock until you've tried
