1.
I'm in exactly the same position Karl! I've mentioned before I just cannot try out what I want to anymore from retailers without travelling miles, even out of Scotland completely! Such a pain as may have to take a 1500-2000 pound plunge for TH500 and 2x210 cabs without even properly trying them. Sign of the times perhaps as high street stores struggle to keep the business going. This is probably the reason I'm reading you guys post on here.
I know what you mean. I lived in Bannockburn for 13 years and the only place to try stuff was Glasgow. With it's traffic and it's parking That's why, with the exception of heads, which to me must work and be under warranty, I always buy used. Simply to minimise losses if me no like

What a stunning instrument. GLWTS Bump.
  3. Thank you Gary and Mr 77s
  4. Top quality service and products. Used them many times and find no need to look elsewhere.
  5. Liking my current cabs VERY much, surprisingly more than the B/F S12V I used for 18 months. Shame the Carvin overhangs a bit
  6. No answer to that is there A few offers for trades, especially Ampegs, so may have to learn to live with it. Not a huge problem as it is an excellent amp with masses of tone shaping and volume. Carvin are not that well known this side of the pond, here's a bit from the dark side CARVIN BX700 & 4-10 CAB ... WOW !! | TalkBass.com EDIT, just found the following demo. The Gain/Master he's got it on, I wouldn't like to be in the same room Have a look at my photos in post#1 for last weeks gigging settings, with mic'ed up drummer and two Blackstar valve half stack guitards Carvin BX700 Bass Amp Overview - YouTube
  7. I am a magpie gear whore and as such, buy and sell far too much. I rarely drop a price when selling. This is because I always sell gear at a price that I think is fair to both buyer and myself. Recently I have found that Gumtree and Facebook have worked better, simply because I can offer them cheaper than FEEBay, and there isn't as much quality opposition as there is on Basschat Final price drop to me (with respect) is for those who NEED to sell, or perhaps were a little optimistic to start with. Just an opinion.
  8. I've kinda stopped pointing these out as I got flamed, along the lines of buyers choice whether to buy or not. That was about 7/8 months ago, regarding a second hand active Mex P Special out in an EBay shop at £825, when new, warranted ones could be bought for £730. Strangely enough that bass is still for sale FEEBay , the charges are that high now, that this will only happen more and more. Nice one pointing it out.
  9.
I know just how annoying the 'overhang' can be.. VBA 400 and Sound City 120 with Barefaced Dubster. A great amp, hope sale goes well. Have you thought about a keyboard rack or some kind of amp stand - save the amp from vibration induced fatigue..... Save ££
Good thought but in this case I don't need to. The feet on the amp kind of overhang and keep the head in place. It's just I like neat and tidy and a head should never overhang. It just looks wrong. To fusspots like me
  10. Thanks for the input folks. Shui and Lozz, confirming my thoughts, ta. James, sadly Doncaster and Sheffield would both turn out to be about 4 hour round trips with all the roadwork crap that is going on. Annoyingly I was in Sheffield 3 weeks back but I wasn't looking at the time. The road works around Hillsboro were a bloody nightmare. Martyn, Guiness I'm fairly sure that although MBL can get you anything, I'm not so sure they have much MB actually in stock. Their website, imo, is bloody awful. I don't really need to know they had a 121 NY in, in August 2013. I hope their re-branding sorts that out. Of course, it could just be me getting into the wrong part of their website, but that brings the question that if they want everybody to know, do they need to cater for the lowest (IQ) common denominator. IE me. Barrie, I'm just so glad I can't drop in your gaff. I would be permanently in debt. I've had quite a bit off you in the last couple of months and will be back. An unsolicited top shop and service from me Mr.
  11. Hmm, points. You are a loon If you like build up songs you'd have loved Foo Fighters But Honestly. Wish I could hide behind a pillar We kinda leaned the keep the volume sane (especially 1st set) quite a while back. Needless to say there are some who scream to turn it up, but the majority who talk to us like the fact their ears aren't bleeding. See you soon and many thanks for coming.
  12. Yup, it's an Attitude Standard. Not one of the range of Billy's Ltd models, or even the Attitude Special, which was quite close. This is still a good bass at a decent price, but these were just "run of the mill" models.
  13. I am wondering if anybody has tried the Tone Hammer with Markbass cabs, in particular 2 x Traveler 102p 210's. Around Manchester area there is no retailer (that I can find), where I can try Markbass amps or the Tone Hammer. I'm guessing the Markbass heads will work very well, but would like input re the Aguilar if possible. I am stacking these cabs vertically so need something narrower than the Carvin. Gutted that I was offered a SVT 7 Pro Ampeg and couldn't take it. Because of width and I have never got on with Ampeg It did look fantastic though! Cheers in advance Basschat Collective.
  14.
This is a lot of amp for the price. Anyone who gets this will be very happy
Yup, 60 year old American company, not as well known as they should be. I mean, they even made custom guitars/amps for some geezer called Vai
why not use the carvin vertically too - may help with sound dispersion
As in falling off the top and bouncing around
  15.
CDO - like OCD but in the correct order. on that topic... I was pretty relieved to find the Gator 6U case that arrived today is the same footprint as the top of my Traveller cabs - no overhang!
Aha, gotcha now . I'm old and originally from Darlington, I demand allowances
Karl, ha ha yep, it was annoying me too for my brief (cameo?) appearance on Friday....
Bloody Hell Martyn, must have been brief, I didn't see you Good job really as it was a bit of a disaster one way or another Thankfully Saturday wasn't, but some precocious girlies made me rather nervous. Mind, it was Walkden
  16.
Geek99 - apologies, I should have been more specific re: the tort - it has a fairly authentic red celluloid look but I was referring primarily to the relicing - it's excellent and the faked 'crack' behind a screw is very cute. Re: the frozen bridge, it was perhaps over-relived and the process (oxidisation) had interfered with function. One intonation screw and six of the saddle screws were entirely frozen - various solvents/lubricants/techniques failed to free them. Mark politely acknowledged the problem and is likely to offer advice/guidance in the future. I replaced all intonation screws and saddles - the latter with inexpensive but good brass barrels. The barrels are not threaded but its not an issue for me - the bass plays beautifully
I had the same issue with the screws on the saddles rusted in place. A £10 bridge off FEEBay, replaced the saddles/intonation screws on the bass and now it's perfect and set up how I like it.
  17.
Is he going to join basschat? The banter between the two of you might be quite entertaining!
ESPECIALLY in the years to come Well done that man!
  18. Neck off to get at what model. Would have something like P B 57-US P.
  19. Carvin BX 700. This beast has red backlights for stage, ss or valve pre amp switch, contour, eq plus switchable graphic eq so lots of tonal options. MADE IN THE USA. Has a 2ohm selector switch on back. It is 4 months old and in immaculate condition. New around £460, I would like £340 delivered to you mainland UK, or £325 collected from Wigan. EDIT, post#11 has a demo, thankfully not me! Bank transfer, cleared cheque or cash on collection. Sorry, no PAINPal. Hopefully link to the handbook thingy. bx700-revA-manual.pdf It does not come with lockable lead in the UK. My feedback should be linked at bottom of post. Reason for sale, pathetic! I have just bought some Markbass cabs which I use vertically for sound dispersion. As can be seen from Fri Sat night gig photos, the head overhangs the cabs by an inch either side. I can feel this visual aberration burning into the back of my skull . I have discussed this bordering on mild OCD with other members and I am grateful to report I am not the only one Think that's it, crap photo's alert. OH, I FORGOT!!!! Don't know if it just works because it's my photobucket page, BUT, if I click on the top photo, it opens my photobucket page. I can then clip a magnifying glass icon and it zooms the photos
  20.
I have a Berg HD112 and a HD210. I run them with a SWR MM Pre in a Gator rack case, and it kills me that the rack case doesnt fit on top neatly. Theres a overhang on all four sides. I really dont want to swap any of them, but it drives me insane.
That's me!
I think you mean CDO..?
Do I ?
  21.
Mark is in process of building a P bass for me. Yes, it will be reliced because I like 'em like that. The spec is a little bit different - I'll post pics when I get it. Happy Jack's to blame........................
Don't forget to put some pic's up on the "Show us your Limelight" thread.
  22. Headstock is 17/32s on mine, or fractionally over half an inch in old money Fender didn't always have the same shades of colour. Fiesta Red was one of the worst with at least 3 slightly different shades that I know of. Difficult for Mark to get them all absolutely exact. Then of course, good old stage lighting...................
  23. Oh dear, another great gone. Not noticing until Jaco day doesn't help.
