John Myung Yam's are currently going around £350/3400 mark. VERY good basses, one of the best 6'ers I had back in the day.

Too many choices indeed. I remember the days when the only choices you had were the local shops and local free paper. Very little GAS then Damn you t'interweb
Very nice. Personally I prefer the white pickguard but everything else there looks great. I especially love the reverse headstock.
Must admit, I keep hum-ing and hah-ing about which plate. What a problem to have
Cheers Karl, right back at you mate. The relicing on this one is very sympathetic to an original, so if it has to be reliced, taste wise this is what I'd go for too. I agree with you that a lot of 'high end' basses can often be hit and miss despite the price tag, even 1960's era Fender threw out a fair few dogs. I like the fact that Limelight deliver at a decent price, I'd love a similar to yours P Bass version to replace the early 60's Precision's I've loved and lost, definitely would be fun to ask Mark to deliver a personal spec bass if I ever get the spare funds for another bass I can't justify, certainly don't need but will surely love...
Thanks Daniel. I was a bit disingenuous about that Fender Custom Shop jazz to be honest. On the same day, in the same shop, I had a long try of the Fender Custom Shop Dusty Hill and it was very probably one of the best basses I have ever played. After a couple of weeks of soul searching (get a grip lad, it's a plank with strings ) , I just could not justify the (REDUCED ) price of £2400 for a beat up, simple, but exquisite bass. Just really ecstatic with this Limelight. Now, lightly reliced, Fiesta Red, Brown tortie plate, (quiet discreet ) Precision body, p/j pups, rosewood board, 70's nut width. I wonder
You'd like it even more after a hefty bong of Uncle Mark's Party Finisher.
Is that the one from Anne Summers? -

Careful With That Axe imiJ Actually, quite liked that, 1st one in particular. Bet I'd like it even more after 12 pints of Scruttock's Old Dirigibles Damn shame the bassist is so lacking in taste to spoil a lovely white jazz with a tortie plate -
Even Her Who Makes Toast By Breathing On Bread is rolling about laughing at that one Mark
I'm glad it worked out well for you, old man. My Limelight Jazz causes a fuss wherever it goes, not just for it's appearance (which is striking) but because of how it sounds. And I can tell you (actually, I think I have!) that it plays very, very nicely indeed. However... my views on the use of tort guards with anything other than sunburst or white are well known... but I don't want to be a party-pooper... so welcome to the Limelight Club! Apart from the p*ckg**rd issue (my issue) it looks like another winner from Mark. He seems to be at the height of his powers. Nice one.
Here we go again
Wonderful, really liking this one!
Thank you Mr Wailer, it is well know you have impeccable taste
He is indeed. It's a shame nobody will ever own mine other than me. I'd love to be able to share its excellence with others but I won't be letting it go. They can try it (briefly) but won't be selling it. I was worried at first as I had part-exchanged a bass I really loved but in hindsight, it didn't even come close. Top quality instrument from a top quality company :-)
I can never say I will never sell it because I am a magpie gear whore. I can say I very much doubt it will leave me because it is bloody amazing.

Thanks folks, the more I play it the more impressed I am. It really is a bit amazing. What's under the hood? Dunno. The best breakfast known to mankind is Lorne sausage in a well fired bap. I NEVER want to know whats in Lorne sausage
Oh dear. Karl, you're one of my best friends here and I have massive respect for you. I'm not sure that I should comment because I obviously have no taste at all.
Well Tom I would indeed have preferred it not to have been reliced, however, after weighing up options from Peterbilt, Fender CS and a couple of other luthiers, Mark and his reputation were the ones chosen as a better all round package.Glad I did. I recently tried a 1960 RI Fender Custom Shop and to be honest it was poor. Loose rotaries, grub screw missing, action you could drive an MX5 under, poorly set up neck, scratchy pots, all for £2400 . This was just over a third of that price, to my spec. When I finally got it out of the box (after re housing the small person hidden in the bomb proof packaging) the bloody thing was actually still bang on in tune! Life's rich tapestry, agree to disagree. Perhaps your taste has just gone on a little holiday All the best fella. Did I mention it plays wonderfully
So, what are they made from? What bodies and necks are they and who does all the fretwork? Are they built from cheaper basses or what? I really fancy one as I don't have a J type and would like to know a bit more.
Perhaps it's best you mail Mark at Limelight. As to what it is that you are really buying? In my case one of the very best jazzes I have owned in about 40 years of playing . There has been a few jazzes in that time .
That's nice. What is it exactly? Looks a lot like the Cabronita P but the reverse neck, black guard and most of all the two saddle bridge have my intrigued.
Link from the maestro who made it happen, and yup, I'm grateful La Cabronita 'Porazzo' Custom Precision Build

Mark has been an absolute star and this arrived at least a month before I was expecting it. The silly sod even put a note on the receipt asking for first refusal buying it back or trading. OI, MARK, NO! Like many others I loved the look of his Burgundy Mist reliced Limelight 00130 '64 J Bass Burgundy Mist Matching Headstock relic , so I asked for the same bass, with 40-100 rounds, in Sea Foam Green. Please don't ask for sound clips, I don't have the gear or the brain cells to figure it out. Suffice it to say, the pups are excellent, it has happily done from JPJ to Gary Thain to Jaco in the last hour or so. Whilst the neck pup is pretty much capable of doing it all on it's own, dialling the bridge in to about 3 gives it a bit more bite. Neck full on, bridge on about 7, tone on about 3 is just amazing. Whilst I was scared about ordering something beat up, sorry, lightly reliced, I should not have worried. The finish is just so comfortable, neck and board superb. Looks great to me. The biggest compliment I can pay Mark's work is this. About 4 years ago I sold my original 74/75 jazz to Gunsfreddy of this parish. I had gigged it for over 20 years but it was getting too valuable to take to the Dog and Duck (twinned with Helmand). That bass played itself, it knew what I wanted to do. So does this one. THANK YOU SO MUCH MARK! Obviously I am happy to answer any questions, but please bear in mind I'm very old, a bit slow and from Darlington originally . Oh, and one last thing, I have been buggering about with the headstock this afternoon

Amongst others I had a tentative offer of £100 plus an immaculate Peavey T40. Sadly the guy has been on a few times since but no further contact, so guess he's changed his mind. If nothing else happens with this bass by tomorrow night, sadly I'm going to try parting it out. Very surprised really, if it had Flea and was in gold, guess it would have been long gone. I have done a breakdown on most parts and the parts alone come to over £1200, never mind shipping, putting it together etc. Hey ho.
I'm looking forward to your NBD limelight thread :-)

Me too!
Never done one before, certainly don't have multiple brain cells or equipment for sound sample stuff. In the last two weeks, I could have done them for 54 Blue Flower P RI, Warmoth Gold Flake 54 Tribute and La Cabronita Porazza tribute. Must stop buying bloody basses
