I think i've gone mad,Gibson far too cheap -- help
karlfer replied to artisan's topic in Bass Guitars
Call me old fashioned but it might do better in the "basses for sale" forum -
He hasn't been on the website since October of last year so it is very probably sold. You could try sending him a personal message. Top left of his first post is his name, luked. Click on his name. That will open another page, with "send me a message" near the top right hand side. Click on that, type and then send your message. Hope you get lucky, cheers, Karl.

My first bass in 74 was one of these. £10 it was. I put it in a skip a decade ago. The last strings I put on it cost £12 A complete piece of sh*te!
This has all got very complicated. So to summarise... Discreet had an NBD thread relating to his new Limelight bass. WoT had a similar thread. I made a few comments on WoT's thread which, in hindsight, were not in the appropriate place. I acted on advice given, and started another thread which underwent a couple of title changes due to the fact that I was not 100% sure what the actual subject matter was! Many posts were made in that thread, and as a result of it (seemingly) the guy who makes Limelight basses made a decision about the branding of his basses. That was brought to our attention by Discreet in this thread. Despite Karlfer's accusation, I did not have (and do not have) an "agenda". I stated this clearly in the thread that I started. But some people do not read all of a thread before contributing. And to think that I was accused of being "easily offended"!!
How very dare you accuse me of accusing . I said "I think........................" (me thinking is a bit of a misnomer, but I'll let it pass this time)

NBD - Limelight Jazz Bass 1960 YOB *Spitfire Guard!*
Oh, you poor deluded fellow! You'll never leave! I'm quoting this because I'll be bringing it up again and again, every time you trade, sell or buy another bass in the years to come. Bwa-ha-ha-haa-haah-haaaaaaaahhhh!!!
Not that long ago a certain discreet of this very parish mooted the thought of a name change. May one humbly suggest "bucket of frogs" -
NBD - Limelight Jazz Bass 1960 YOB *Spitfire Guard!*

Yowser, what a tone! Oh well, only 12 weeks to wait. Thanks Mark, that is excellent. -
Well, I'm two gigs into a three-one-the-trot run, and I LOVE THIS THING. Lots of comments from band-mates and punters about its tone and looks. And the best bit is: the world hasn't ended because it has a Fender logo on it. Happy days, man...
Fabulous set up Michael.
The funny thing is a lot of punters would not get that joke and presume it to be a Fender such is the notoriety of the brand never mind spot a fake logo on something like the many Fender clones! I dont think I am a full on BRX Fender hater yet but I sure am bored with all the copies now
Well do something radical and don't look.
Well now, posting a band with no bass player on a bass forum, that's not going to calm anyone down is it?
Wa hay, elephant spotted
I enter this thread with a bit of nervousness as it seems 'off topic' has visited 'bass guitars'. However, I have a bit of sympathy for karlfer here as he ordered a bass on the basis that it would have a 'Fender' decal on the headstock as per the current offerings from Limelight. It is not for anyone to question why he wants a Fender decal. We all have different opinions and so let's live and let live. I hope that Mark will create karlfer's bass with the Fender decal before going down the route of producing basses with no logos. I would be fed up if I thought I was ordering one thing to get another. Of course if this hadn't been raised as an issue Mark could have been left to his own devices to choose when to omit the decals if at all. I have dealt with Mark in the past and he is a thorough gent. He is also capable of making his own decisions.
Thanks Hutton. As you know I rarely revert to profanity but some of the more antagonistic on here would drive a nun to swearing. I will make my thoughts clear. People have the right to verbally challenge me. I have the right to ignore them or tell them to bog off. Or tell them that sometimes there is more to words than meet the eye. NOW I'm going for my bromide.
So if you'll happily tell anyone who asks that it's not a Fender but a Fender-copy, why be so desperate for a Fender logo on the headstock? Wasn't the thread started by Discreet, who has a Limelight bass of his own? What's his agenda then?
Quote 1. Because I f***ing want want. Quote 2. That post is in reference to the other thread that led to this one.

And another thing (sorry, I'm starting to get Meldrew now) there are two basses currently for sale in our own for sale section, which are advertised as X manufacturer, when they are both actually luthier made bitsa's, both asking significant amounts of money. Don't see anybody greeting about that. Right, I'm off for a spoonful of bromide.
Oh per-lease! Would all of you nay-sayers rather that the guy was hit by a massive legal bill when Fender get round to checking him out? And what will have led them to him will be all the NBD threads talking about what a wonderful "Fender" they have just sourced for £800. Don't think it wouldn't happen, because it would. I think common sense has prevailed. Mark's response shows that he is a sensible guy, and his basses are clearly of high quality and they will sell because of that. Whether they are branded as Fender, Limelight or "Mark Bass" is immaterial.... Oh, er... hang on...
And I think somebody kicked off a controversial subject, with their own agenda. Just my thoughts and yes even Darlingtonians are allowed that.
-
Well at least that sentence makes more sense than the last one. The jeans thing was supposed to be an analogy though, I wasn't suggesting that you actually place a high importance on what brand your jeans are, but it's the same thing to me, one brand marquerading as another at a much more affordable price point. So let me ask you this: If someone came up to you at a gig and said "Hey buddy, nice Fender", would you say "thanks" and leave it at that, or would you tell them that it's not in fact a Fender but it's - in effect - a knock-off?
In the unlikely event that anybody actually acknowledged my existence at a gig I would tell them it is a replica Fender built to my specifications by a talented luthier. Much the same as I used to tell anybody that asked that my Rickenfaker was actually made in Japan in the 70's.
"Are of little import"?
Jeans, Next, Gucci. They are of no importance to ME. I have bought many Fenders in the last 39 years. They do not currently provide a reasonably priced bass in the specifications I would like. Somebody else does. Yes I would like it with Fender on the top because it is a homage to one of their earlier instruments that I adore. Can't afford real or custom shop. I am not buying it to make a profit, I'm buying it for Me to gig. The aesthetics are for ME. Most luthier built instruments you will lose money on. That isn't an issue for me. I would have bought this instrument from Peterbuilt except they do not put Fender logos on. I really don't give a monkey's wang about anybody else's thought's about how shallow I am.
Sorry, am I missing something? What I understand from this thread is a company who makes copies of a larger, better known company's basses is going to stop using the copyrighted logo of said larger, better known company. It seems like a lot of members are very disappointed by the fact that if they buy one of these non-Fender basses it'll no longer carry a Fender decal. Do they also get upset when their jeans from Next don't have a Gucci logo?
Jeans Next and Gucci are of little import
That's if they even realise I'm with the band... 'Whos that guy lurking in the corner behind the band?! What a weirdo!'
Thank you for the coffee injected screen
