1.
Taking advantage of the Carvin's 2ohm output Karl?
Surprisingly not Chris. I've had the Barefaced about 15 months (a record for the last decade), just a touch of trysomethingelseitis . Actually I wouldn't dare go to 2 ohms. Last night, fairly good sized pub room that was an acoustic pig. I will try the graphic eq for the first time thinks I. Miked up drummer, 2 Blackstar wielding guitarses through pa. Inverted smiley on eq, bloody Hell . I had to turn the drive and master both town to 7 o'clock. Staggering, but it sorted the room out
2. Sorry guys, just noticed this. Following is a copy of a pm received from Dave on the 5th. "Hi again mate. Crazy few days and now on hols until the 13th June. Consider it fully on hold for you and I'll sort payment and shipping when I get back? Dave" If I don't get on with it, you will be the first to know
3. Just a little update. The room at last nights gig was a complete pig. After a little whilst sound checking I though I will try it with the graphic eq. Hell's bells, the lift in volume was staggering . I don't smiley face eq, rather the frown face. I had to turn the drive and master down to 7 o'clock as it was just drowning everybody. Could probably use the eq as a boost channel for solo's. The more I learn about this little monster, the more I like
4. Nice to see a good consensus from some people who have used the store. Well done Coda, Doug and his lads!
5. I'm down to 4. Today. Who knows what tomorrow will bring That last step, down to three (two for gigs, one spare in case one is in dock) is proving very difficult. Gotta say, Hiram's GDS may well be one of the reasons it is much harder to sell on here (in general) now.
6. Seconded Lozz, and the slightly slimmer nut at 40mm!
7.
Cheers matey, I'm praying for serendipitous timing of a sale for me which will then provoke a sale for you and a new bass for me
Fingers crossed, more for your sale before you come to your senses
Is it sold with a hard case ? How much to ship to scotland ka73bw? cheers
1st picture, you can see it in the original Fender hard case it came in. It's battered but fully functional. £670 insured courier delivered to Ayr. By the way folks, if my feedback at the bottom of each of my posts isn't enough, the place I am getting my CS from had a comprehensive look over this whilst I was trying their basses. They agreed to give me what I was asking in part x. I will provide the name of that shop by PM if required.
8. Fabulous cabs Andy and hugely tempted but firstly it's quite a bit more than the Hot Rod and secondly I would have to sell my Barefaced (post#32) , to get the final money for the CS. All this against a bit of a time schedule. Good luck with your sale.
9. You may like to buy this superb piece of gear, so Mr. Dye can buy my Hot Rod!
10. Thanks for all guys, friendly bunch you southerners aren't you You may regret your kind offers in a week or two
11. REDUCED TO £650 COLLECTED FROM WIGAN BEFORE MONDAY 9TH JUNE! Would quite like to move this on now as I have found THE CS I am after. By mistake admittedly, but I've found her. So, if it's of interest, please let me know before she goes in p/x. Cheers, Karl.
12.
Clearly going into the shop and trying it would be my preferred option, but neither are in Newcastle. And yes, I suppose I could ask GuitarGuitar to send them both to the shop, but what's the point if they're boat anchors? This shouldn't really be that complicated IMO. Other retailers have managed it...
Amen!
13.
We've discussed this earlier - there's too much natural variance from bass to bass.
Time and again you will see something like a 75 Precision at 8lbs, or at 11.5lbs. When you are an old git with shoulder pains 2 hours x extra 3.5lbs = bloody uncomfortable. That is ONE of the reasons I fell in love with the Dusty Hill I tried yesterday
14.
Karl, if it's carpel tunnel, get it fixed. My old guitarist suffered for years and then had it operated on and fixed. Both hands too.
Thanks Martin. Doc ain't sure yet, bit more testy stuff. Wouldn't it be a shame if I'd ended up treating myself under false pretenses
15.
We could have had a coffee meet up Give me a shout if you come back down for the Dusty
Thank you Gary, that's very kind
Hmm looks good - might just call in there tomorrow and try it out.. Just messin with you
Just messin'
16. Over the last few weeks I have had a pain in my arm, from elbow through forearm to fingers. At first it was recovering between our weekend gigs and Wed rehearsals. Now it is with me all the time and apparently my gigging time will be coming to a close over the next couple of years. Tunnel stuff says doc. As such I have decided to go out treating myself and I recently decided on a Fender Custom shop. I live in Wigan and the nearest I could find with a decent selection was Coda in Stevenage, a mere 192 miles each way. So I set off this morning, 5 hours courtesy of the traffic lights of the M6 to Coventry Junction 3 being out, causing big tailbacks. 1.5 hours to do 4 miles. I finally got there and I have to say Doug and the guys he works with were AMAZING. Nice room all to myself (the Joe Bonamassa room by the looks of it), anything I wanted to try, coffee , tea, advice. CS Jazz no 1, 1960 NOS Black, stacker. Sounded stunning but hated the flats on it. Action a bit high but they offered to do a set up while I waited if required. CS Jazz no 2, 1964 Closet Classic, Seminole Red. Beautiful, played great, great action, sounded wonderful. HOWEVER (tart alert) looked far too much like my 2002 Tango'd Sunset Orange. The white 1960 RI I wanted to try had just been sold. So, out of curiosity I asked if I could try the Dusty Hill CS. NOW THIS thing looks like I had towed it down the M6 to the shop. Upside down Tele headstock, presumably neck like a baseball bat. Wrong. This is one of the FINEST basses I have ever tried. Unlike the two wonderful basses I had just tried this one screamed out to me. World's worst bridge, who cares, intonation was perfect. Action a bit high, so what, still daftly playable, despite my arm giving me some real gyp by then. Pick up a bit quiet on bass, but killer on full tone. Weight is superb, definitely sub 8lb. THE NECK IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER PLAYED. Jazz width nut, but a bit of depth to get hold of, sublime. The guys in the shop offered me what I asked in p/x for my Hot Rod, excellent. I had , however, come prepared with a budget. X £ in one pocket for the 60 jazz (plus the Hot Rod value). Another £300 in my other pocket for the 64 jazz. Glad nobody took a chance mugging me, lot of £20's in my pocket . Sadly, the Dust was £300 more than I could reach. Today So, a massive thanks to the guys in Coda for their time, expertise, friendliness and help. Much appreciated and muchly recommended. I had a wonderful hour or so in there. Although we usually gig 3 weeks out of 4 in the little pub rock band I'm in, we have 5 gigs in June, assuming my arm lasts out. (It will, I won;t let them down), if Coda has this wonderful beat up tattly little monster in by the end of the month, she will be mine! Oh yes, she will be mine . The bass Thank you very much gentlemen of Coda.
17. Preferred the zombie make up Clarky Great bass series these. Added to which, having had an 62AVRI it seemed to me like you could squeeze more tonal variation out of stackers, so a great mod on a fundamentally terrific series of basses. Would love to do the stacker on my 2002 Tango'd, but I'd break it GLWTS Bump.
18. Peterbuilt have an excellent reputation on the continent. First one I've noticed second hand on here, they don't come up much. He makes some absolutely stunning basses in great colours with great pups. GLWTS somebody will be VERY happy.
19. Thanks fellas. Further pm's replied. Found a link (dark side alert ) which has a bit chat about these, INCLUDING the spec list. Fender Hot-Rodded P-bass?P/J passive question. | TalkBass.com
20.
I bought a compilation called Metal Killers from Woolworths in the 80's and Venom's "song" black metal was a bit of a shock to the system. Venom were releasing albums back in 1979 - which makes them the original black/death metal as far as I know.
Fairly sure it was 1980 we supported them. 80/83 we did gigs with bands as diverse as Gillan, Marillion, Venom and Saracen. Mind supporting Shakin Stevens and The Sunset's in 1976.....
21. Was on hold. No longer on hold. The bloke's wife says so
