OK, so in the ever-progressing search for a less-heavy-lift and less-cabling gigging life, we've got a decent Presonus desk and RCF PA now, and we've moved to wireless IEMs, so accordingly I've started using my iPad for digital amps/FX models, and it's a major leap forward. My setup is either basses>SonicPort>iPad>FX Return of Streamliner>DI out to PA or basses>SonicPort>iPad>PA, which means I can either run some backline or not, depending on venue requirements. This is such a major step forward I can't believe it - I can now hear myself perfectly, I have an individual mix (controlled via iPhone or iPad) in my ears, and best of all I can control the volume. My tinnitus thanks me. The amp models in the Jamup app are very very good (certainly good enough for what I need), and the FX are good enough for the job, too. I think I've spent less than £100 on all the EQ end, which includes half a dozen amp models, all the FX I'll ever need, tuner, plus some great jamming tools like speed and pitch control for playalong with my music library. Oh, and dozens of easy-to-set presets with full EQ/FX chains - Tony Levin's Sledgehammer to Duff to Jamerson to Marcus in a swipe of the finger... Even when we're not using in-ears, I'm still using the iPad and Jamup instead of the EQ on the Streamliner: it's just much more versatile. The only thing missing for the setup, and given the rise in this sort of thing, I'd consider it to be a pretty big hole in the market, is a small, portable Class D power amp: something along the lines of the GK MBs in size, I'd say 500w would be plenty. I know there's the SWR Amplite, but they're hardly common, and MB did kinda edge that way with their modular efforts, but there's still gotta be scope for one of the big manufacturers to just strip out their EQ, simplify the front panel, drop the price accordingly, and I think they'd sell very well. Anyone else think so?
Muzz, you lost me at basses> Mine is bass>curly lead> GK MB 500> Barefaced S12V. About 43lbs in all. Mind, my GK is currently languishing in the for sales, but I doubt it will be getting replaced by anything other than the latest eruption creating car radio amp
Hiya Karl, not long after I bought your EBS Neo 212 I picked up an HD350 and two years later, I'm still loving that rig. I also picked up an EBS Microbass and an SWR amplite and have had similarly pleasing results. The Microbass is a fantastic little box. Sooooo, since you loved the EBS tone you had why not try the microbass with a lightweight power amp. Maybe the 400W of the Amplite would not be enough for your watt-guzzling needs, but there's always the Demeter Minnie. It'll cost you an arm and a leg but I reckon it'll sound goooooood! PS your old Fender Duck Dunn is still the funkiest most badass bass I ever done played. It now wears bartolinis, Gotoh res-o-lite tuners and flats, shamone. All the best, Alan.
Are you INSANE boy? It's bad enough being accused of using a car cassette, never mind a bloody painted fag box Glad you are still enjoying gear I should never have sold . But there again, you are a professional musician with far more pragmatic sense than a weekend warrior like me will ever have. And to think of the biscuits I willingly gave . Hope you are ok bud and it's all going swimmingly. Cheers, Karl.
Expecting customers from overseas, Mark? Good question, Karl, and very to the point. That stock head is a trademark. We wouldn't wanna annoy Discreet International Corporation Korea, and this place is a ****enfaker free zone! BTW, good luck with the sale, Mark!

Update: Used the cab at rehearsal on Friday last and it was great. EQ flat apart from a little push of the mids and it filled the room very well indeed with lush Barefaced goodness. Performed how I expected - gave similar results to my first tests, but at band levels. Didn't break into a sweat at all, and still has that vast acreage of low permeated by lovely audible note clarity and definition. Got favourable comments from the band too - a good sign. Of course now I've got GAS for a G3 Big Twin or a Big Baby, but I can wait. This is the best I've had so far and I'm loving it. Next: Big One with Burman MPA Pre and PowerPak 100W Valve Amp.
Karl, if you want to try my Streamliner, give me a shout and we could swap heads for a few days (or if it's mid-week when I'm not gigging you could just borrow the Streamliner) if that'll help.
Thanks Muzz that's amazingly kind, speak soon.
Karl, I'm surprised the GK MB500 is not doing it for you - I A/B'd my 500 Fusion with Bertbass's 900 Streamliner/'69er combination and both amps produce excellent heft, clarity, definition and volume. They are not a million miles away from each other imho.
Hmmm discreet in being serious shocker, who would have believed it Last nights gig, took virtually all the bass off the amp, upped the lower mids and the P sounded amazing all night. The jazz and P/J always sound great through the amp/cab. I really think I just want an excuse to try another amp . Perhaps it's because amp technology seems to move forward every week!
I'm looking at a new amp myself to go with my Super Compact. I've just move on a Genz shuttle 6 on to get something with more power. Budget is £500-£700 and I'm after something with 500watts at 8 ohms. And struggling to decide what to get.
The Puma and Aguilar up for sale at the moment are both VERY tempting

Gone thank you. Please expect a GB Streamliner 600 to be up next week

Thanks Barry, think I may put my GK MB500 up tomorrow night. Then I will need to budget a full day out I think, cos, er, I have to drive back so that's 6.5 hours (even if the M6 ISN'T in car park mode )
An update! over a year on and my gear buyin days are still over, cab still sounds beautiful,I almost always use my GK 400 RB '89 vintage but if I fancy a real bit of nostalgia I use my first series Trace AH250(still the loudest 250 watts ever). The only very slight issue is the loose rubber foot, doesn't bother me and strangely its only one of them that ever comes loose. The cab has now done about 150 gigs and shows no signs of serious wear. The sound did get better and louder as the speakers played in. Try one.
Araldite is your friend

Thanks to everybody for their input, really appreciated. No big deal but I do just fancy trying something else. The Precision is still a little hit and miss in different venues although the jazz and the P/J sound fabulous every where. Love the TTE500. I had an EBS TD650 which was amazing, best amp I've ever had, but in a 3U rack it weighed almost 50lbs! Barry, I am very grateful that your shop is 3 hours and 10 minutes away from me. Yes, I've checked. I have had my eye on that 61 CS Closet Classic for a couple of weeks and GAS of all kinds was not helped by spotting the Carvin BX 700 which looks an amazing piece of kit for the money. Again thanks everybody. Gig money burning a hole will one day be the death of me

I seem to remember Alex did a piece on amps that work best with his cabs, but I can't find it. Can anybody remember where it was, or what amps he recommended with a Super 12? It's the time of the year for an amp change The GK has been with me FAR too long. Like the gear tart I am, I am looking longingly at Aguilar 500's. So fickle Well, I've never tried one (justification). Cheers for any help/links folks, ta, Karl.

This must be one of the earliest ones. They rarely come up now. Excellent passive basses. Fender Precision Special Deluxe Bass | Hull | Gumtree
