OK, my spirit is tormented. I will be getting my Barefaced in a few days. Despite it being doomed to failure, I must put this proposition to you LC. My Schroeder 410 BMF for this jazz and I will bring the Schro to you. Damn you having 2 SP 212's!!! Mind, they do show the black marks and you may wish to keep them for Sunday best . Anyway, bump and the opportunity to reply and bump

Darlington Civic, 1967, I was 9. Seen them about 40 times since. The party night out band, even with some of the silly stuff. Railroad and Gerdundula still two of my faves ever. By the left, bounce please.

Right, stop it, you are all being silly Serious answer, go to basses for sale forum and do a search for American deluxe 5 string jazzes. Do the same on FEEBay and draw your own conclusions. Arrive at a ball park figure then make your own decision about how much the signature is worth to YOU. Remember, if you come to sell it, the signature is unlikely to make it worth much more. Good luck. Karl.

I really wanna do Coz I luv u with twin guitars taking the violin parts, but guitards won't have it . That thumping Gibbo with Jim attached to it in so many tracks is just wondrous stuff!
It's the twat that wandered up to my mic stand on Sat night mid song , took my pint out of it's holder and necked it that minded me to start this thread. What a pillock. Our roadie saw him off , thankfully . Marc just said to him - 'that bloke who's property you just stole in front of his nose to look big in front of your mates ....... he's going to keep smiling and entertaining these other good folk for another 45 minutes then he's gonna come down here and beat f*** out of you in front of them while we all laugh , you stupid little prick'. He papped himself and fled !!!!
Brilliant Can we borrow Marc Dave

lowballing .. definition and .. is it insulting ?
karlfer replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
It wasn't some sort of Fender Jazz was it? With a matching headstock? Guy was a total chancer, cheeky and not in keeping with all of the other excellent communications/transactions I've been involved with on this forum. I suppose sooner or later (statistically) you're going to come across a muppet. He also contacted me AFTER I had sold the bass asking if wanted to buy his outright...
No, not the same one. It is still up for sale, at £100 less than original asked, for three days only It is a stunning bass, but I specifically stated only up for sale to raise funds for the Desert Gold Bongo. It's no big deal, I just pm'd the chap back politely informing him I had a wish to raise loot, not spend more. It does however show, that sort of thing happens. -
It annoys me when you say 'no trades' and then someone wastes your time with PMs that say 'I'll swap your £400 bass for my £1500 with you giving me £1100 cash'... Erm, no!

Who does that anyway? never even heard of one of these. lol. i thought the point of a sale was 1.to raise cash. 2. To make room. 3. To upgrade. I mean seriously, if you say no trades, i would assume it's either 1 or 2. That guy would be a full on chancer who can't be bothered even to create an ad to sell his bass.
That exact same thing happened with me last week when I had my Precision Deluxe/Status up for sale for a short time. Their bass advertised at £1399, mine at £600. I would have had to find about £830 Mine was only up for sale to grab the afore mentioned Desert Gold Bongo, which I missed out on. Karl. -
It depends on the definition of lowballing. There are plenty of people on here that advertise on the high side with no offers. Unsurprisingly their thread becomes a desert of no activity. As others have mentioned, Fender have really hiked their prices over the last few years. So you bought an American Standard Jazz in 2008/9 (when they could be had for just over £800) and want to sell now. They're now going for someone near the £1100 mark yet there's been plenty of ads listing at £850-£900, which is MORE than they paid for it! We're not talking about anything vintage here, just bog standard Fenders. Personally I try not to lowball anyone and have normally only replied to ads that are reasonably priced, and almost always paid the asking price. Doesn't hurt to ask if the price is negotiable though - in almost all examples of selling you advertise at a higher price than you expect to get, in order to get the price you wanted. If someone is advertising a used bass at above the price it costs to buy a new one then they're just asking for trouble, frankly. I have occasionally sent a PM to let them know but I don't bother any more as they'll work it out from the lack of interest.
Couldn't agree more! Well said. -

"Paid £450 for this last year, want £450 now". So they expect to get something rent free for a year. It would need to be something relatively hard to get hold of or a great object of personal desire before I would consider paying £450 in that event. Then of course, you trace the item back to the previous owner/sale on here and find they actually paid £400 last year -
Where do you draw the line though? How much was my '79 Ray new, How much was a '51 P bass new? should they only be sold for those prices forever? Its worth what its worth so it will either hang around or sell to someone else for near the asking price which is their good fortune IMO
Absolutely Pete, but to me saying their are a grand new now is part of the game, but they got got to realise people in general aren't daft and measuring against a new price which has rocketted due to increased VAT/exchange rate,is going to alienate some people straight away. They have lost a potential customer. If the last 5 that have sold have gone at £550/£600, you are doing yourself no favours putting it out at £750/£800. I am putting up my Schroeder in the new year (incoming Barefaced). The last two failed to sell at £550 and £500. Mine will go out at £450 including cover. Market decides. Karl. -

Difficult one, the buyer generally wants to pay the minimum, seller wants to get the best they can. If I think somebody is asking too much I just will not even contact them so they could well lose out on a sale. The one that has been really bugging me this year is the start price on Marcus Millers. "2002/3/4/" Marcus Miller, now costs £1076, £750 plus postage please" It didn't cost £1076 in 2003, and they bought it 2nd hand for £450 in 2009, not that that is admitted. A week later they are bleating because there is not interest. Yet if you offered them a more realistic £600, you are a lowballer! -

To my shame I have sold/traded quite a bit on here and not made one donation . Why? Lazy. Please feel free to pan me, but I bet I'm not the only one. I would be happy to be made to pay £2/£3 per ad, better value than the free on Bumtree and Freeloved. £20 subscription? I think you will lose a lot of members, not just the rarely active. I am sure the Mods have done a lot down the following avenue, but to me, an advertising spend, with their own page, for the likes of Fender, could be strongly looked at? Say Fender had their own page on here, at £10,000 pa, it is costing them 50 p pa per bass player, as we have about 20.000 I believe? No doubt I am being my usual simplistic self. Karl. -

Can the X Factor judges hear what we hear on the TV?
Quite. We should be denying this programme the oxygen of publicity by not discussing it on a public forum. D'OH!!
You are here then -

karlfer replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
As above, and the last two pages since Doddys post have been a waste of bandwidth you could have used to argue about custom bone nuts on your "fiver". X factor is IMO an extended advert designed to sell product to people who care more about having and expressing an opinion that may count towards the "winning" selection than it`s actual value as music. The involvement is what sells, the by product is a CD and a video and maybe a tour and most importantly, newspapers. The back story is what sells it to the "voters"irregardless of the lack of actual musical talent. The back story is what you hear burbled out on breakfast tv by yet more celebrities. When the act or it`s ability isn`t enough, you are invited to care about the judges and their lifestyles, partners, drunken binges etc. The fact that some of you here expressed quite passionate opinions about rather bland singers after minimal exposure proves it works very well. You are involved, have an opinion, care... Imagine how it feels after watching it for years.... Me, I prefer listening to a bit of music.
Must be great to be the only correct opinion Obviously I am weak, easily led and feeble of mind to actually think Leona Lewis or Rebecca Ferguson can, erm, sing. 'Scuse me, off to dribble my tea. Karl.
