Perhaps a bit more forethought would have gone down well. Somewhere in the region of 20, 000 members, or potentially 20,000 customers. Not really the place to hack off even a small percentage of potential customers. Especially for an exclusive niche market product. I really do hope some good comes of this. Mr Hall, I honestly think if you backed off the pre-lawsuit stuff, you would find a lot more people with a lot more respect and empathy for the stance of your undeniably respected business. Karl.
Fender tried something awhile ago, putting pressure on retailers (blocking stock if ifringing) but there were too many bolted horses. Jon is just trying to maximise the value of the brand as a family asset. Not like he's a banker or politician or soemthing, but it isn't quite in the spirit of rock 'n roll....
People would have a lot more empathy if he backed off pulling every 30+ year old copy.

I have a great deal of respect for RIC and John Hall for what they do in regard to this, however it really does stagger me that they try to stop the private sales of 30+ year old basses that were made before they had their copyrights. Fair enough with instruments that were made after the legal issues, even though there is some doubt as to wether or not they apply in whichever country. In terms of there market, few who can afford a Rickenbacker would buy a copy so does it really massively affect there sales? It does in one way. I have had 4 real Ricks. I will never buy another after an advert of mine was pulled on FEEBay a couple of years back. As I said, fair play to Mr Hall, but I think he would be better drawing a line in the sand at pre-lawsuit. He would certainly get some kudos, IMHO. Strange how FEEBay seem to pull less business sellers ads for modern Rick copies, again, IMHO.

More PM'S replied to, thanks for the interest folks. Answers. The unusual finish is original that's how these limited editions came out of the factory. They do come up for sale occasionally, there was one the year before last in Leeds. PAINPal will only be taken if it sells on FEEBay, however it is at a starting price of £450. Current price on here is £400, I may take close offers in a few weeks, but not at the moment thanks . Please remember it's the Mrs trying to badger me down to 4 basses, not me , cheers, Karl. -
Not my thing at all, but looks like a lot of quality for the current price. Let's see what it ends up at. Sheffield isn't in Derbyshire
Yeah, I thought that but I thought a local would know better than me?
What's happened to the price of the genuine article? They seem to be going down whilst fakers seem to be selling at pretty robust prices? Mr Hall's efforts perhaps backfiring on him?
I've been thinking that as well Chris. There is a bit of distrust coming into it as well I think, been more than one "genuine" of late that has been questionable. I keep looking at a black with black scratchplate from Urmston(Manchester) it's been up 3 times I've seen, with BIN of £1100 and it ain't going. Pretty sure it's completely cosher as well. Bloody spelling again!
