1.
I think you're right there. It kind of helped me know decent fakers from dodgy ones although I still have no clue as to what is what when TRCs have been removed. Also, hellothere, you'll never know a good one before you play it. Even decent quality fakers can come with issues!
TRC, anybody selling should really be prepared to provide photo's, enough for you to cross Jon's palm . Quality ones with issue's? That's why I chose a bolt neck. On the vintage copies (and vintage Rick's), fretboards, bridges, necks can be a problem if abused. A bolt neck is easier to work on. IMO. Karl.
2.
Where can I find out more about Rickenfakers? Such as why there are so many and if there is any way to spot a "good" one without playing it.
Read 80 pages of this thread and cross Jon's palm with silver . Karl.
3. Love the very even wear (pretty much every note on the board) from fretting , even though the frets themselves look quite good . Karl.
4.
Proper job:
Whats with me?
5. Mine. Been on BC 3 weeks, just a few offers, not quite close enough to £300 collected/£330 delivered. I've been careful to avoid any references, but it will still probably get pulled. Karl.
6. Excellent stuff Justin. I nearly (long story) got an audition for these lads just over a year ago, before I joined BBGM. You are the man, well done. Karl.
7.
Is this one they made up in their workshop.......whoops, did I say that out loud?
Well. the auction shows they have 2 available . Karl.
8. What's that P in your avatar Neil?
9. I am looking to exchange my 75 re-issue jazz for a Lakland Duck Dunn, as I need Precision pick up/jazz neck. These critters have got me thinking though.# Are they passive fellas? Cheers, Karl.
10. Yup, new start. Whatever happens you will be looking for more, which is brilliant. The audiyion is just a start. Enjoy, and the very best of luck, Karl.
11.
By telling him you'd already bought one cheaper online.
.
12. Cough up Beedster .
13. Ist time I've noticed the thread. That bass looks and sounds gorgeous. Good luck, Karl
14.
Sorry to see it go Karl, I didn't realise it had a ding on the bottom or a missing screw, sorry mate. Great bass this, Karl is a proper gent so buy with confidence folks.
Thanks Tom. The dint on the button I noticed when I tried it. Did not give one toss, not on this bass . The missing screw/spring, erm, well, dunno, but guess I've done a few gigs with it and not noticed . Could have gone anytime. Still doesn't go out of tune though! Trip to Richard Thomson on Monday methinks. Truly sorry if it does go, but would like to get a Lakland Duck Dunn for sound and neck profile and this is the only one that could come close in value. Look after yourself fella, cheers, Karl. PS, just checked some of the bands facebook photo's, the screw/spring were definitely at a gig with me in October, so not down to you dude!!!
15. Hello folks. NOW for sale, £600 collected from Wigan, £635 delivered. No offers thanks. Long shot but I need to get a Duck Dunn. On the rare occasion they come up they seem to go for £525/£550. The '75 re-issues seem to go for around £600+, so not much in it. Problems with my jazz. 1. Seems to have been dropped at some time, nasty little ding at bottom strap button. 2. When taking the (crap) photo's noticed the the screw for the G string saddle is missing . Now replaced with correct Japanese screw. This jazz used to belong to Tom1946, so it's a good 'un, with the slightly less common rosewood board and blocks. This is a reluctant trade/sale, but I really need a P with a J neck. The 3 guys who asked for a sale price when I was looking to trade, seem to have vanished, so now on open sale Thanks for looking, Karl. (now posted in proper place, thanks BILBO for sorting out my senior moment . Feedback. 16. Find a local jam night. Go for 3 or 4 weeks, see what numbers are being played. Learn just a couple of them in your own time. When you are ready, just have a word with the organiser, "any chance I can play on >>>>>>>>>>>>> tonight?" Trust me, you will have been sussed by then and they will encourage you. Once you've done that, made some friends and some contacts, you will get further opportunities. All the best, Karl.
17. Enjoy dude . Karl.
18. Bump for new photo's. Karl.
19.
Should have left it as a Greco ... gorn!
It's back, but how long for? This is exactly why I don't want to put mine on FEEBay, but sooner or later I'm going to have to. It's OK for Retrovibe, Tuscany and Californian to advertise new copies, but not for an individual to advertise an old one. Twats . Karl. The Arbiter has been pulled as well.
20. I'm a plank. I would like other o ffences taken into account. Going back to my attic now. . Pillock of Wigan.
21. Any thing not quite right? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Jazz-Bass-50t...=item2561a4d3ce
22.
what's the action like and is the neck straight? I am missing my old CMI Rick copy!
Action fine although a little higher than my Fenders, as I only use a pick on Rick style basses. Neck also fine. Have gigged this a few times since I got it, using it for Diamond Head/Metallica's Am I Evil. Oh yes, it can growl . Further PM's replied to, thanks for the interest, but still here. Cheers, Karl.
23.
Jesus Christ, that is amazing. Where the hell did you find it if you don't mind me asking? While not quite as popular I'd actually prefer a more adjustable bolt on neck personally.
Well buy mine then pretty please! Karl.
24. Bump. It's from 1976, it's very well made, it's a very good likeness to the real thing. More so than most modern Rickenfakers. It's unlikely (but slightly possible) to be worth any less in the future £330 delivered by Parcel Farce £300 collected from Wigan. I need a second SP212, please save me from FEEBay . Karl.
25.
laminated body ?
Yes, but not ply. Jon (Bassassin) calls it "Butchers Block" , I think. It appears to have a facing of about a quarter of an inch, then solid wood beneath that. If anybody has one of those earlier, passive, Mexican Precision Deluxes that have P and J pick ups, I would both swap and meet, if they were of a mind. That would mean my '75 Japanese, non-export Jazz (in my avatar) would be coming up for sale . I really need just 3 basses suitable for the gigs I do. I really want (not need) a second SP212. Thanks for the question, Karl.
