1. I spent ages looking for one of these, gave up and got a Lakland Daryll Jones. That jazz is stunning and worth every penny. Good luck.
2. Many thanks for all that info Ross. Exactly what I am looking for at a reasonable price. Gutted that it's a 450 mile round trip to your town. Very best of luck with your sale, and thanks again. Cheers, Karl.
3. Hi Ross, sorry if I have missed any info but, Where abouts are you? Would you sell just one of them? Are they 8 ohms? Are they chrome front grills? How many watts? Photos if poss? Cheers, Karl.
4. Hi Andy. I had a kinda Purpleheart one of these maybe 10 year ago. I also struggled to sell mine when the time came. I ended up part ex-ing it against a big Marshall rig, which I sold when I packed up for 5 years. Staggeringly good bass, but I think it's a relatively specialist market. Hang on in there and good luck. PS potential punters, top guy to deal with, gear really well looked after PPS. Someone buy his SWR 750x, I am weakening!!!!!! I don't NEED 750 watts.
5. Only reason I am dithering is it's 4 ohms, so I would have to sell my 8 ohm Son of Bertha, which I love (until I lift it!! the strength of youth is long gone). I would also have no use for my 8 ohm Aguilar 2x10. Cracking buy this cab.
6.
hey man you still looking to sell the head? could i have some specs of it aswell cheers Aaron
Hello Aaron. If the 1 x15 is 8ohms, sell parts of your anatomy to get that and the head. With your 8ohm 4x10 you will have an excellent rig. Good luck!!! Karl. PS, sorry for thread hijack!!!
7. Think I was watching this on evilbay. Was considering selling my 2 cabs to get this, as this is 4 ohms. Have a bump for a great piece of kit, and good luck with the sale. Cheers, Karl.
8. Sorry Clarky, due to age factor I was a village idiot before you! What I always offer to anybody interested in any bass I have for sale, is for me to play it over the phone,at my expense, BEFORE they come to see it. Not infallible I know, and open to unscrupulessness (does that word exist?), but I let them know what equipment is being used, settings etc. The little feedback I have seems to give creedence to me not being a scammer. I really don't have the life expectancy to figure out YouTube. Regardless of all this, I really wont buy a bass now without trying it, although I did recently get lucky with Old Gits 70's re-issue P, it fits like a glove. From Wigan, going back into my cobbled roof cave now.
9.
Awesome, looks like a good do, and better than some of the holes I've played recently. Nice rig by the way.
Smashing rig, bet you wish you had that in the 80's. Is that a new sunburst Geddy? Can't quite make out the bridge. I did my 1st gig for 5/6 years couple of months back (band,BBGM) similar set to you. Was bricking it the 1st night. The other lads handed me a little pressie just before we went on. It was a nappy! Well done you. You deserve to enjoy the buzz for all the effort. All the best mate, Karl.
10. OK, so tiny bit more tweaking this week. Gig last night, told to turn it down by guitard at sound check, even though only one not through PA. Original bassist/vocalist for Twin Lizzy there, came up at end of gig, said bass sound was superb and asked what the bass was (Lakland Daryll Jones). (No prizes for guessing what his main bass is!) Chuffed to bits. I am so grateful to you guys for sorting me out when I was in spoilt brat mode. All the best, Karl.
11. I wish I had been a little more patient and NOT bought my SWR 350X head BEFORE you agreed to split this. I would certainly have bought this long before now, as I am quite happy to look like the Vera Duckworth of bass. Dont like the sound of the SWR as much as the Ashdown I sold to fund it! I was really interested in it, but impatient for a more powerful head. Good luck and have a bumpo dude.
12. Hi stevie D etc. I have just sold my perfect, Made in Uk Mag 300 2x10t. At the time this was made, the only real difference between the Mag and ABM heads was the EQ section and the valve pre amp. The components were pretty much the same. I needed to raise funds for an SWR 350 X I had bought. I got a pathetic £150 for my superb Ashdown Mag combo. That despite a week on ebay, 40+watchers and zero bids! Annoyingly I don't like the sound of the SWR as much as the Ashdown, and regret selling my Mag 2x10t. Sadly because of issue a couple of years back, all Ashdowns seem to be tarred with the same brush. Raze has a cracking "blinged up", UK made ABM for sale at £310, which I should have bought instead of the SWR.He's had it up for quite a while, however I don't want to go through all the sh*t of trying to sell something, so soon after the last time. Moral of the story? Hold on to it if you can. If not, be very patient, it may take a while. All the best, Karl.
13. OK, so followed you 2 guys advice. Been experimenting every night this week. Gig last night, big hotel/pub near Wigan. Sound checked at half time in the football. Lead guitard did walkabout with his wireless, came back reporting rig sounded FANTASTIC! Certainly no tone or volume issues. Fearing the worst response after Englands performance, seemed a packed pub decided if they couldn't party with England, they would party with BBGM. Still always surprised seeing 20 to 50 year olds bouncing about to things like Freebird and Am I Evil. Drummer from the last band I was in,and the drummer from Twin Lizzy both there and both genuinely enjoyed the gig. Thanks guys, I am so relieved. The help guys like you give freely on this forum is why it's such a bloody good place to be. I really can't thank you enough, Cheers, Karl.
14. Many thanks again fellas. Mother buggering off home tomorrow, so will be time to start experimenting and annoying the Mrs. Hopefully will get closer by Friday nights gig (yes, we are playing on the same night as England!). All the best lads, Karl.
15. Cheers JTUK, going to be patient and follow your advice. I know it's me that's the problem and you have given me a great deal to work with to get the sound I am looking for. This forum is great when folk are stumped and get good people like you giving their time and experience to help them. Can't stretch as far as the Aguilar, but there is a WorkingPro 4x10 on evilbay that I have just put a bid on. If I get it, I will sell the UK Ashdown Mag 4x10. All I need now is for my mother to bugger off home so I can make some noise! All the best, Karl.
16. I've got a 600 watt, 8 ohm 4x10 Ashdown Mag, UK made, coming on the market very soon. Pretty much immaculate. However, like everything else, you need to check how many watts your amp pushes out at different ohms. I will be wanting a very reasonable £110 picked up. As was said before, once you get around the £100 mark, you will find some very good gear. Good luck, Karl.
17. Thanks for that JTUK. Think I really just panicked myself a bit. Stupid really, changing from one make to another, and expecting the same sound, just louder and clearer. Going to make a start on the road you suggest. I really am actually quite thick and have never had an amp as sophisticated as this. Wish me luck!
18. Hi folks. 1st gig last night with recently acquired SWR 350X. Using Son of Bertha 1x15 with tweeter, Mag 4x10 with tweeter, both 8 ohms, 350 and 600 watts respectively. Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones. Previously used Ashdown Mag 300, 2x10, with the bass and the above mentioned Mag 4x10. Just used to push in the "Deep" preset, instant John Paul Jones sound. (Well, the 5 notes I can play were!). OK, back to the SWR at last nights gig. Hated it. 1. Green limiter light coming on with pre at 5 and Master at 4. I don't really understand what this does, but knocked back the Master to stop it coming on, thus restricting my volume. It has a Limiter Defeat, but I was scared to use it for fear of damaging anything. 2. Has this Aural Enhancer thing, followed by a bass control, then Midrange Level, then Midrange Frequency, then it has a treble control. Apparently it's all parametric? Also, adjustable tweeter which I turned to zero. So, I am not getting enough volume (certainly not as much as my old 300 watt Mag) and I can't get that lovely smooth, bassy John Paul Jones kinda sound. My immediate reaction was to get rid and get a 2nd hand ABM head, but I can't really afford to take the inevitable hit. Having thought about it rationally, this is the most complicated amp I have ever owned and surely the volume and sound are in there. I am just too dim to sort it. Having further thought about my knee jerk ( or is it just jerk?) reaction, there is masses of willing experience on here, so.... any advice really would be really gratefully accepted. Cheers, Karl.
19. I sold one exactly the same on ebay last year, same colour/matching headstock/gold hardware. Unlike this, mine was absolutely mint. Was gutted I only got £440 for it, but I was desperately skint at the time.
20.
Equally unsubtle.
Didn't Hondo use those extra tree strings to get enough break angle for the strings, over the nut? Or perhaps, as ever, I have lost reality. Karl.
21. Hello CrackityJones. I would soon be putting one of my cabs up as I am going all SWR. Now is as good a time as any. Ashdown MAG 4x10t, 600 watts, 8 ohms. MADE IN UK, carpet covered, 4 blueline speakers plus tweeter. Excellent cab, excellent condition. On castors so very easy to move around. Not too heavy anyway. I need to get £110 plus shipping for this. If you are interested, let me know, and I will attempt some phone photography!! Cheers, Karl.
