The price differential is just silly at this point. I've seen USA Stds selling for £4 - 500 less than the new Pros, in the same store. That's a massive difference, for almost no difference. If I wanted a new Fender right now, I'd be grabbing a USA Std, without a second thought. I do like the new Olive green though.
Just Fender helping dealers getting the now discontinued standards through. Few months time there will be very few Standards left. As an aside, in 1997 I bought a brand new active USA Jazz. It was £697. The current range at that level is the Elite, which now seems to be around £1900. That is some increase, even for nearly 20 years.
It depends on what your idea of perfect is. I first discovered this when I set up a Fodera with a super low action. To me it was perfect, so easily playable that I could almost glide around the board with the lightest touch. Imagine my surprise when I saw a review here on BC from a player saying he couldn't understand what the fuss was about with Foderas. He'd tried it and found it unplayable - buzzy, clangy and not able to get a decent tone because of this. There is a middle ground set up to a set of Fender specifications for a bass. I've used that as a general start point but found that a lot of younger players say it's too high and complain about the action.
As ever Barrie is bang on right. I set my basses up like Sheehan does, there's always a little bit of buzz. When I (embarrassingly inevitably) move one on courtesy of the next shiny toy, I always set them back up to Fender spec. Even though that is really only considered a starting point. Always difficult for a shop BUT a little play before putting them on the wall might highlight any work and help sales. Not for box shifters though.

My Am Special in Candy Apple Red did not sell, so very reluctantly I need to put this up. 200 Black and 300 Sea Foam Pearl were made in 2013 for Guitar Centre in the States. 6 Black and 6 Sea Foam made it to the UK. I have one of each. SO, yer actual rare in UK! Reluctant sale of the Black one. A few lumps and bumps, nothing drastic but don't expect pristine. It was rumoured the necks used were the same one's that the 1st Mex Geddy's had, but that's only a rumour. Light-ish at 8lb 14oz. P body, J neck, vintage P pup, noiseless J pup, Badass11, full spec below. I will include a tatty Fender gigbag. I FORGOT. Standard tuners have been replaced with Hipshot HB 7 (with tension screw). £600 collected from Wigan, extra £25 insured UK courier. Thanks for looking, cheers, Karl. I've gigged for over 40 years. This has been going on for all that time (not every gig obviously). Think the original post was re The Parr Hall, pretty notorious for "difficult" sound since Adam was a lad.

I don't know, sometimes the "trad" colours work (for me anyway )

Well my flabber is certainly ghasted. Never had a volume issue apart from a pretty crap TC BH800 and a Tone Hammer 500. Ho hum.
Clean signals are no less damaging than dirty signals if the average power is the same. The key thing is that for a signal to remain totally clean the amp needs to have some headroom left - and if it has headroom left, and you're playing uncompressed bass guitar, the average level can't be more than about 10% of the amp's power rating because the crest factor of bass guitar is so high.
This is beyond me. Most things are beyond me. Am I to understand that a Markbass LM800, run with no effects, no compressor (I never use either) all EQ points noon, VLE/VLF (whatever they call them) off, that the maximum average ? I'm achieving is around 80 watts?

Thanks Chris. It's a big relief to know I'm not quite as daft as I thought .

Cheers Rich. I'd taken it to my little warehouse to wind it up a bit. It's rather loud pushed (more than I would ever need at a gig) . Genius again Bill thank you. Lots of other uses for the bits left over

Anybody use foam underneath an amp head? Like many I normally use trusty Halford's car dash non slip matting to keep a micro amp in place. I've noticed that my LM 800 seems to bounce a bit more than most (whadya mean turn it down ) Anyway, I got to thinking, long term, that amount of vibration can't do it much good. So, I'm thinking of getting some 1/8 inch foam and cutting it down to just more than the area covered by the feet of the head. Daft? Worrying about nowt? Thoughts folks? Cheers, Karl.

Sorry, I can't answer that truthfully. It should sound vintage through valve amp, ceramic with flats. It should sound modern through digital, neo with rounds. Even these are massive generalisations depending on technique, equipment, effects, EQ settings. This is the pick up that was in American Standards before they started using "custom shop" pick ups as standard in 2012. -
Good condition but some paint chips and scuffs, Indonesian Oct 2013. 800 watts @ 4ohms Comes with Markbass gigbag (£50 new) that can stay on when amp is in use. Also Markbass bass keeper (£20 new). Whole package new around £690. £400 collected from Wigan, £425 including mainland UK courier. Only up whilst the GB Streamliner 900 (my preferred amp) is still available. Apologies for photos, inevitably as soon as I stepped outside it started raining. I piggin' hate Wigan! Thanks for looking, cheers, Karl.
