1. For whatever reason, there are a few on the Facebook sales pages. One particularly stunning example is a blonde thumb with a German replacement Corvette neck. It's beautiful imo, especially at £550. As we have seen before, some Warwick necks just don't live long, hence he chose his preferred neck when the original went belly up.
2. Stuart bought my EA iAMP 600. I was a tad reluctant to courier this head, as a courier dropping it would cause a Richter event. Anyway, it got done. Stuart is head honcho of a top productions firm who work all over the world. This fortunately means he is used to dealing with dozy sods like me . He really does have that saintly patience stuff. Enough rambling, absolutely top drawer geezer, fully recommended you can deal with Stuart with both confidence and ease. Cheers, Karl.
3. Finally got to meet Nick at one of Basschat's authorised venues, Corley service station . Real pro musician who also happens to be a great bloke as well. It was an honour mate. Oh, and a superbly easy deal to obtain the Schroeder of my dreams. Cheers Nick, I'm sure we'll meet again.
4. eci0x Delete anything you have re this bass. It's a bitsa of fairly dubious origins. At best, there's an outside chance the body is US, but I'd need all the hardware off and a good look at the neck pocket and cavities. Certainly not 2010 USA Standard.
5.
I scraped the old one off with a Stanley knife blade. Take it out of the holder and holding the blade almost upright and flat on the wood, scrape the blade down the grain and it'll cleanly take off the waterslide and any lacquer. I bought a decal in a set of 4 from a guy in Spain. I then scanned the image and edited it to make the serial number the correct one for my own bass. The originals were all for a bass from 2009-10. This one is from 2003-4. So I wanted to keep it true to the bass. What I have found is the original was definitely silver. The decals you buy, and my own, look silver/grey on the print. When you actually apply the decal it looks grey/gold. This is because the colour of the wood is coming through. What I'm planning to do on mine is using a silver pen to colour in the silver part and make it look more like the original. If anyone wants one like mine, PM me and I'll can make these for anyone. I also have a fair stock of watersilde paper, so I'll do them at a price to cover costs.
Many thanks for that Richard, much appreciated. A job for the weekend whilst the wife is with [s]the Coven[/s] her mother and sister. Then a little PM methinks. I won't hold you accountable for the severed fingers. Kind regards, Frank Spencer
6. I've got one in a similar state and I'm now inspired, thank you Grangur. How, what did you use to scrape the damaged one off with? Where did you get the replacement decal, particularly with serial number? Cheers in advance, Karl.
7. NOT AMERICAN STANDARD. Entry level American Precision, 2011, now discontinued as are the Standard. Differences to US STANDARD. Standard pup rather than custom shop. Standard tuners rather than the fancy lightweight ones. Standard bridge rather than high mass through body. No hard case, comes with slightly tatty but fully usable Fender Deluxe gigbag. Light at 8lb 4oz. These have the Greasebucket tone circuit which has made irregular appearances since the late 80's. Very good condition but has some buckle rash on the back, Can only see in certain light. Extra £25 UK mainland courier delivery. UK ONLY I'm afraid. Any trial in Wigan, feedback linked below. The gold mirror plate is just laid on top to give an idea. It is included as well as the black original plate. Specs courtesy of Bass Direct. http://www.bassdirec...CIAL_Black.html Apologies for photos, it's raining. Again. Many thanks for looking, cheers, Karl. 8.
well said Important point - it has to be the passive version, like this one
Completely agree.
9. Mark, use the one that fits best. FWIW I only gig my 2 Mex FSR P/J's They fit. The Ricks, SEIs, Alembic, Sadowsky, all gone. Not missing any of them.
10. Hiya, couple of these up and I'm interested after missing out on the PUMA 500. Do you have all the necessary bits for the Tone Print downloading? Is it registered for warranty and if so is the warranty transferrable? Good luck regardless, cheers, Karl.
11. Terrific, under rated basses that are just made for gigging. The only bass on my wish list now is one of these, but white with maple board. Somebody is going to be happy. GLWTS
12. Bollox. Damon, if it don't work out, next in queue please.
13. I made my original comment in the context that I've had plek'd basses. I didn't really notice them to be greatly different to non-plek'd. There again, I'm a ham fisted clod.
14.
It's not cobblers. Your technique is what it is. . . . but however good you are I bet you'll play better on a bass with a 5 mm action than one with a 10 or 15mm action. The better your playing gets the more differences like that will matter. If your technique progresses you might notice the difference between 3mm and 5mm.
Yeah but how much better? Frets levelled, 4/64ths one side, 5/64ths other side, rest of the basses set up to the roughly recommended parameters. I'll never be a virtuoso but that kind of set up allows me to play fast, accurate and multi stringed if the occassion demands. The older I get and the more knowledge I get, the more I find the Fender is an amazing, versatile instrument. Regardless of which method of fret levelling is used.Kinda like the way Mr. Sheehan sets his basses up.
Talking cobblers is a sport - and highly amusing . Carry on
FINALLY, a sport I might get decent at
15. I'm old and dim, but just because a bass has been plek'd to optimum performance, that doesn't mean it's necessarily optimum performance for my (lack of) style/technique? Or am I talking cobblers as usual
16. SOLD thanks, and thanks for the very surprising amount of interest. Guess there is always a place for quality . Apologies to the 4 disappointed folks.
17. DiMarzio or Steve Harris for me. Passive, always passive. But I'm strange.
18. Isn't it strange how we find different things, part of the adventure I think. Reason I make this comment, ome of the embarrassingly many set ups I've used was a PUMA 900 through Barefaced S12 with Fender P/J and the way I had it set up was amazingly punchy. An accident I got such a good sound believe me. A change in band lead me to theoretically needing a more smooth vintage sound.
19. Don't forget TecAmp or Eich. Both seem popular with folk who use both types of instrument.
20. Geert is a really nice guy, a pleasure to chat with. He contacted me about my Schroeder. It was a real shame he was actually the 6th to contact me about that cab. Although that deal didn't happen purely down to timing, I would have happily sent the cab to him. A true gent and fully recommended.
21. Cracking job Richard, you are good at this stuff aintcha. Got some bad news for you though. No more cab GAS. Just different colour cloth every year. Fender fawn/tweed next year perhaps?
