CASH PRICE £850 COLLECTED WIGAN, £900 INC UK INSURED COURIER. One of these fellas. https://www.gak.co.u...CFQYSGwodioMP6w Got this last week at a great price (£820 but I drove to Scotland to collect). Unlike the AV 57 RI and the Road Worn 50's , this does not have a shallow back to front neck. GUTTED Not baseball bat D Tele type profile, but certainly a deeper C than the series before. By my eyes (NO guarantee ) 22 mm deep from board to back of neck at 1st fret, and 26 mm from board to back of neck at 12th fret. As a pose to a more normal reading of around 20 and 23 respectively. So fretting is hurting my hand a bit. ISSUES. 3 nasty dint's as per photos, plus some " certain light" surface scuffing. Both case locks are buggered, but it can be closed on the middle hasp thing. One screw missing from chrome pick up cover. GOOD BITS. Lacquered scratchplate. Sounds wonderful. 8 LBS ! Feedback linked below. Many thanks for looking, cheers, Karl. In fairness Chris, you are much more experienced with Ricks than I am, but, for me, the original core Rick sound was fingerstyle with flats. In my world, the 1st one I noticed to expand on that was Chris Squires, although I know he was only one of many experimenting. As I understand it, he used a guitar amp for "treble" pup, bass amp for "bass" pup. He really took it a long way from the core sound. Yet many folk call his sound The Rick Sound. Even the difference between pick and fingers is massive. And whats the matter with ergonomics? Don't you like wrist slashing binding and most of the chromework off a Cadillac Eldorado
That's the truth of it, there's tricks to getting one Ric sound for sure, for example Squire's, Maccas etc, but to get all of them, which all Rics can do because despite what people say, they are extremely versatile instruments, you'll need a Ric. IME there is no instrument that has quite such a unique set of tonal characteristics.
Exactly Chris They are daft versatile, which is why I always chuckle when I hear the phrase "Rick sound".

I love all this "Rick sound " stuff. Who's? Geddy, Squire, Lemmy, Entwistle, Burton, McCartney? They all use different amps, cabs, live effects, studio effects, strings, techiques etc. Live sound, throw an (undoubtedly excellent) engineer in to the mix ( ) I can get most P's to do a passable Rick sound IF SUCH A THING really exists.

I had one briefly (long story) and was very impressed, great workhorse bass at any price really.

The "S" versions are quite hard to find. They are going to be even harder as the importer of Rockinbetter has been told to "cease and desist". He's flogged his last remaining stock to several retailers in the UK, at cut prices. Presumably to get as much back as he can, quickly. Selector switch and jack socket are both just standard Switchcraft on mine, however if you have the two sockets on your bass, just ask on the FB page. Somebody will help you. On Facebook, you will see some little boxes at the top of the page. Hit the "start conversation" button and carry on. Don't be afraid of asking dumb questions, everybody does . Enjoy.
Somewhere - - within these pages, I thought - - a set of pickups was mentioned that was a lot cheaper than the Seymour Duncans, and which performed very well. Anyone able to tell which pickups these may have been? I trawled the thread without finding them myself. IMS they were 150 quid or Mercan bucks per set. The point here is my Rockinbetter wants two new pickups for its birthday, and as a proud dad, I wish to oblige. Though I seem to remember one the the original pickups in the Rockinbetter does not need being exchanged, and at any rate, I suppose the bridge pup placement on the Rockinbetter would ruin it for even an original Rickenbacker bridge pickup? If anyone has any advice, it's received with gratitude. On another note, the pickup switch doesn't work or one of the pickups doesn't. Any experience about this as to Rockinbetters? Would it often be a case of dismantling the switch and cleansing it, or would one normally exchange it? Or do experiences with Rockinbetters teach us that it's normally the pickup itself that is faulty? I can of course investigate everything, but a quick heads up might save me some time by starting with the most common source of error. Thanks for any info!
I had the selector switch issue with my Rockinbetter 4003s tribute. Replaced it with Switchcraft. Also jack socket replaced with Switchcraft. Personally, I find the "s" version of tributes and the real thing much easier to play fingerstyle. The Rockinbetter has a much more functional bridge than the real thing though! The contoured top is so much more forgiving on the wrist, than the binding, sharp slab top. The real 4004C11 is even easier for fingerstyle .
The approved method is actually to attach one end of a piece of string to your belt and then tie the other end to a live haddock which should then be lowered down the inside of your trouser leg to just below the knee. As the haddock flaps about it will naturally cause your trousers to also flap sympathetically. To accurately reproduce the specific trouser flap of an all tube amp through a fridge, this should ideally be an organically reared, line caught haddock (obviously).
Don't be ridiculous. You can only use haddock at seaside gigs. You don't get sea air in Wigan. The boys in the know round here use imported Rainbows
So are you telling me that I no longer need the 4 4x15s and the two Hiwatt 200s In all seriousness my longest playing stretch with one band (fairly successful, plenty of gigs) was done without backline. Folk / Ceilidh band, HH 100W pa with entire band through it, no monitors. How times change. I would be quite happy not using backline providing I could hear what I was playing. What are you doing about the drums karlfer?
I'm doing nowt about the drums, any more knobs than bass, mid, treble and volume make me start twitching . The band will be miccing them all up. The drummer turned up to my 2nd rehearsal with an electronic kit. That didn't go well.

Bass out at £1800 (always open to a chat). "I offer £1500 include ship to Spain". So, insured shipping was £92. An offer of £1500 against a selling of £1892. Somebody else got the bass.

Sold. Orange SP 210 Isobaric cab. Made in England
karlfer replied to karlfer's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
OK, all pm's replied thanks. Currently still here, although 4 folk are considering it. The 1st time I used this at a gig was with a Bass Terror 500. The Fleece in Ashton-In-Makerfield (the north west gigging chapter will all know it). I put this very small cab on a table. I put the Orange Bass Terror head on top. I could here grumbles and sniggers from drummist and guitards. Vox/backing vox set up. Snare and kick drum mic'd up. Time for sound check. No more sniggers or grumbles. The reason for this was simple. The cab is 2 x 10 NEO drivers. It is rated 600 watts at 8 ohms. The head is 500 watts, BUT the OBT has an ohmage selector on the back. Set that to 8ohms, and the full 500 watts of the amps power is unleashed. That little story above is really so I get no more messages questioning how such a small cab can deliver so much. It just does Cheers, Karl.
