1. These things are always nonsense; it might apply to a few people but most of us will buck the trend in one way or another.
2. Having been GAS free for several years now I am slightly tempted with the Squier version and I don't even eat chocolate.
3. I managed to get my old 4/4 double bass in my ex-wife's VW Fox with relative ease. I should add this is not necessarily a reason why she is now an ex-wife. I think you'll find most small cars will take an upright bass if you sacrifice things like comfort...and hopefully not safety too much!
4. I take instruments as they come, I've had great heavier basses and great lighter basses. I probably default to preferring a slightly lighter than average P-bass but it's not the end of the world if it is coming in a little heavier than my ideal.
5. Should have probably added my feedback thread which shows me to be a real stand up guy... letters from my Mum available on request also http://basschat.co.uk/topic/62592-burritobass/page__p__1497234__hl__burritobass__fromsearch__1#entry1497234
6. I'd echo BigRedX's comments on the importance of test pressings. We usually get a track remastered for vinyl as well as there is no point having singles if they sound awful. Another tip is to offer a free download code with the single so the buyer can get MP3s too. You can set up something via sites like bandcamp.. It helps aid sales which you'll need as from experience we have suffered with excess stock of 12" and 7" on every vinyl release where as CD tends to go for re-pressings. As stated in the original post these things really are for vanity and because the band contains purists and never because it is a smart business decision.
7. I think people go through a crisis in their mid to late 20s over this, I know I did. I busted a gut from my teens until I was 2 trying to "make it". For me I got married and felt pressure from me to grow up. I'd done all the gig bookings, flyers, promotion etc and all my bandmates had houses and better jobs. I stopped for 5 years where I got both a house and a better job. I started playing for fun again at 32yrs old. Over the last 8yrs this fun has seen me sign an Indie deal, get primetime US TV coverage of the band, international radio play, tour the country and get rave reviews in the UK National music press for the last two albums. I think concentrating on my playing and having fun helped me much more than trying to make it. For me at least. I don't expect I'll ever make a full time living from it (2 bandmates do due to teaching & session work) but I'm happier with where I am.
8.
I think he looks a bit like a muscled up Dee Dee Ramone! Great moves though!
I just thought Clarky had dyed his hair!
9.
Can you guess what they're playing?
Just watching it now at home with sound and no, I didn't guess that!
10. I'm watching this in the office with the sound on mute and in no way do I feel I am missing out
11. CIJ & MIJ in general tend to be fantastic from my experience & I've owned / played a lot of them over the last 25yrs. Mainly the vintage spec ones too. Vintage white would suggest an of white colouring but can't help you with the exact shade.
12. I used to be a lot more sentimental but these days there is nothing that I could guarantee keeping forever. Being without something isn't the end of the world, maybe just end of that era.
13. I stopped in my mid 20s as I thought I'd be too old. I started back up again in my early 30s and am now 40. I don't really know what a mid life crisis is but am happy just doing what I want as I go through life. The great thing about getting older is you are more comfortable in your own skin and therefore less interested in whether everyone else might be debating whether you are having a mid life crisis or whatever other accusations life brings. Playing / being in band is definitely more enjoyable now I'm older though.
14. I didn't care for Greasebucket at the time although it does have a few fans. I like old school tones so have always followed old 50s diagrams and recommendations for those tone caps / pickups etc. If someone was after a more vamped up sound I guess it would be a case of looking at overwound pickups and more modern adjustments. Depends what you are after.
15. You need a PR guy who is paid to plug the band. We've struggled with radio but had a few plays on BBC radio & reviews in most national press.
16. The Bass Doc did this for my 50s Squier to give it a 1955 vibe
17. Big fan too. I walked across 110th St as my own little tribute back in February this year
18. I have absolutely no idea and there isn't even the childhood option of jumping on the bed to see what is on top of the wardrobe.
19. I discovered Betty Wright back in the early 90s and have been a fan ever since. My concern was that the Roots album would be a bit too modern for me but the streamed samples on Amazon sound brilliant.
20. I bought a Squier this summer for precisely this reason and agree with earlier comments that 1) it hadn't really been a problem in 25yrs of gigging and 2) the bass is better to replace than the rig. The problem is you actually run the risk of getting more attached to the cheap bass. The Squier is currently my main go to bass.
21. My 5w Fender Champion that I let guitarists use when they come over to jam. The amp was upgraded by Watford Valves with a better Jensen speaker and some new tubes. I tend to go through that little solid state Vox amp next to it, hence the bass in the picture.
22. I had an Epiphone one about 10yrs ago. Chronic neck dive has never really bothered me but the pickups were really weak. I had a few Epiphones and that one was the weakest. The underside of the V had a rubber grip panel so you could actually sit down and play it. I managed to get a fitted case for mine too but both Flying V bass and fitted case were sold on as it just never sounded as good as it looked.
23. Hopefully a nice happy ending then? Good stuff.
24. £500 for a great vintage player anyone?
