1.
Can you guess what they're playing?
Just watching it now at home with sound and no, I didn't guess that!
2. I'm watching this in the office with the sound on mute and in no way do I feel I am missing out
3. CIJ & MIJ in general tend to be fantastic from my experience & I've owned / played a lot of them over the last 25yrs. Mainly the vintage spec ones too. Vintage white would suggest an of white colouring but can't help you with the exact shade.
4. I used to be a lot more sentimental but these days there is nothing that I could guarantee keeping forever. Being without something isn't the end of the world, maybe just end of that era.
5. I stopped in my mid 20s as I thought I'd be too old. I started back up again in my early 30s and am now 40. I don't really know what a mid life crisis is but am happy just doing what I want as I go through life. The great thing about getting older is you are more comfortable in your own skin and therefore less interested in whether everyone else might be debating whether you are having a mid life crisis or whatever other accusations life brings. Playing / being in band is definitely more enjoyable now I'm older though.
6. I didn't care for Greasebucket at the time although it does have a few fans. I like old school tones so have always followed old 50s diagrams and recommendations for those tone caps / pickups etc. If someone was after a more vamped up sound I guess it would be a case of looking at overwound pickups and more modern adjustments. Depends what you are after.
7. You need a PR guy who is paid to plug the band. We've struggled with radio but had a few plays on BBC radio & reviews in most national press.
8. The Bass Doc did this for my 50s Squier to give it a 1955 vibe
9. Big fan too. I walked across 110th St as my own little tribute back in February this year
10. I have absolutely no idea and there isn't even the childhood option of jumping on the bed to see what is on top of the wardrobe.
11. I discovered Betty Wright back in the early 90s and have been a fan ever since. My concern was that the Roots album would be a bit too modern for me but the streamed samples on Amazon sound brilliant.
12. I bought a Squier this summer for precisely this reason and agree with earlier comments that 1) it hadn't really been a problem in 25yrs of gigging and 2) the bass is better to replace than the rig. The problem is you actually run the risk of getting more attached to the cheap bass. The Squier is currently my main go to bass.
13. My 5w Fender Champion that I let guitarists use when they come over to jam. The amp was upgraded by Watford Valves with a better Jensen speaker and some new tubes. I tend to go through that little solid state Vox amp next to it, hence the bass in the picture.
14. I had an Epiphone one about 10yrs ago. Chronic neck dive has never really bothered me but the pickups were really weak. I had a few Epiphones and that one was the weakest. The underside of the V had a rubber grip panel so you could actually sit down and play it. I managed to get a fitted case for mine too but both Flying V bass and fitted case were sold on as it just never sounded as good as it looked.
15. Hopefully a nice happy ending then? Good stuff.
16. £500 for a great vintage player anyone?
17. I'm 40 and I'm a low slinger. It was never really about being cool, more just wanting to be like my idols 25yrs ago; if that is cool, fine and if not, each to their own. I raised it for a while in my late 20s / early 30s but I guess I'm so set in my ways I tend to have it below the belt. And thankfully I have a pretty flat stomach so no issues there for me
18.
When i have been in this situation before I turned my bass way way way down and left the band stranded having no option but to also turn down to hear the bass. Lower volumes in small venue always works so much better anyway ...you never know they might learn something here!
Superb! I see this as a thread about professionalism, not a thread about volume.
19. Plus one on the powerball... exactly what I used to get me up to match strength and when I haven't practiced for a while. You can get them on Amazon cheaply enough.
20. It looks more like a 62RI bass rather than a 70s reissue and PB62 would mean 1962 Precision Bass. The Ex means export and not all Japanese Fender basses have the serial number on the neck heel. I think it is genuine but someone with a closer eye for detail please feel free to tell me I'm wrong.
21. Price drop bump. I've been some interest earlier but still for sale & I keep forgetting to bump this. It really is a great player.
22. I owned a reso bass but not an Ozark so hopefully still allowed to comment. Initially it looked great but sounded pretty awful. I strung it with flats which completely transformed the bass tonally, more so than any other bass going from rounds to flats. It really came into its own. I used it live a fair bit bit sadly it was one of the casualties in my divorce a few years ago. Great bass and a more portable alternative to an upright bass on acoustic nights.
23. For some reason this thread makes me think of Nigel Tufnel (at the 29 seconds in mark)
24. Never liked him or his music. An amazing talent but I couldn't name one single song and I was subjected to a Rising Force album a lot in the late 80s. I remember him being criticised by the press for his gut overhanging his lace up leather trousers and sadly this is what I always think of when he comes to mind. Just goes to show you can practice all the scales but if you look a chump....
25. I am inclined to agree with Clauster but play it first, it may not be well looked after by the previous owner so may need a decent set up but usually Squier stuff is bang on the money.
