I think it's worth checking venues beforehand. It happens, even when bands do a push through their own social media etc. At least he paid. In my younger days we were forever getting ripped off by underhand landlords changing the rules if they weren't happy with the turnout. I'm older and wiser now.

I think it varies room to room. Also sometimes we arrange things for a live setting so we maybe don't hear things as well but it allows rehearsing for the harder pub gigs.

They really are very expensive. My advice would be go to your local shop and pick up a few ranging medium to heavy gauge and see which one you get one with. It'll cost you a LOT less and you can work out which thickness suits you (it is down to taste and there is no right or wrong) and then buy some more of those. It'll still work out cheaper.

Weekend bump for a great player -
I had to buy new valves as my one was breaking up too early for my tastes. That doesn't sound too right to me. They tend to break up quite early so it could be your own isn't quite right. Personally more my tastes but not typical Orange. You need to test it against another TB head to see. It's been my only gigging head for about 3yrs now so I was surprised when I saw this thread.

I've used Grolsch since the mid 90s and never been put off by the colour. I am put off by strap locks though. Don't know why, just not for me.

Difficult to read any dates but I would suggest the wiring is more modern. I've owned it 4yrs and never had cause to look so they would pre-date that but they are not as dated as my 70s Fenders used to look. Just as a general observation for anyone reading the questions / replies, it is probably worth mentioning that the price of an all original 76 would be about 3.5 times what is asked of this and this was always priced to reflect the fact that it is parts put together. Kind of vintage Fender on the cheap, as it were. But a lovely bass nonetheless.

It's as good a theory as any Dazza, although my friend used to stock Vintage basses in his shop and it doesn't quite have the same feel. It's certainly been relic'd by a previous owner prior to Fluffo and I owning it but we felt it was an older body. I suspect it will always remain a mystery. You could be right but I'm not 100% convinced just yet. Those Vintage basses are great though. As said earlier though everything else is either Fender USA or in the case of the pickups 70s Dimarzio.

I was with the prostate cancer guys when I had my cancer treatment. Thankfully increasingly treatable when caught early. It certainly looks like the range has been scaled back with the SP210 being replaced and the SP410 seems to have gone too. The SP212 is still fairly widely available but perhaps someone reading has better insider knowledge???

Great idea for a thread; I've often wondered about tips and recommendations. When I've played bluegrass / roots / country / folk stuff I have always used a Shadow pickup in the bridge. It seems to give me the tone of the bass & not colour the sound so I have stuck with that. I always just used to go through the PA with upright but I'm currently playing rockabilly / old rock 'n' roll / jump blues stuff and using my Orange Terror bass rig. It sounds good but I do wonder if an Ampeg Portaflex would be a better set up. I like the aesthetic side of things to look right too but must confess that portability and tone are my main motivations. Certainly the Orange stuff is delivering on those fronts which is why I haven't done anything to change thus far.

You'd get a 60s clicky sound, it's wonderful. I use a P bass but like to play both finger style & with a pick depending on the song. Go for it, you won't be dissapointed. Plus if flats don't work out for you they are easy enough to sell on. -

I lost a total of 4 stone quite healthily and naturally. To be fair when you saw me I was post cancer treatment drugs and my weight had ballooned to a record high. I'm actually back to where I was in my 20s so I'm happy with that. I don't think my weight had varied more than 3kgs in 2yrs which is good.
