1. Going rate is £337 right now with free delivery. I have one, great bass. Loads of 0% finance deals around now so for £33.70 a month it is a better way than EBay.
2. Carpet tape should do it - people have done this before
3. For me it'd be a 1955 / 1956 butterscotch Fender P-bass although I agree that I'd rather have the money for a holiday or something else these days. I worry enough about taking a Squier around some of the venues I've played!
4. I would have said I didn't like Jazz as my Dad was a pro Jazz drummer in the 60s and probably tried too hard to get me into it at an early age. As a kid I did like things like the theme from Starsky & Hutch and through that I've got a few albums that range Acid Jazz through to some stuff from the 60s and 70s. My Dad reliably informs me this is "the wrong sort of Jazz" though. It's very limiting hating genres though. I like the almost universally panned country music which people tend to associate with acts like Don Williams. I'm forever playing them stuff which gets the reaction "well I like that"
5.
How are you getting on with it?
Superb. I'm playing it more than any other instrument right now (upright bass aside) to the extent that I am thinking of getting rid of my USA Fender P bass. The stock pickup was the big surprise as I bought it figuring it would be the first thing to go. It sounds great, is very playable and is just great fun.
6. I believe I have just joined the team for the simple reason 1) I am part of the Basschat community, 2) I beat cancer in 2009 & 3) this is the first year since then that I am currently clean shaven
7. Big fan of BillyApple's picture; here's mine. A 50s Squier made to look like an old 55
8. Fingers crossed for your drummer, rotten luck. All the best for all concerned.
9. It might just be that you are playing more? I found playing upright bass really made me appreciate the bass guitar
10. Awww, I wanted to make the Adam Ant quip!
11. Funny thing but I find it easier working out songs on an old acoustic guitar for my Americana band but prefer the bass for learning tunes for the rockabilly band. Ultimately I think it comes down to whatever works best for you.
12. Ideal for the player with far too much money
13. Thanks Clarky, I guess that was my question phrased better
14. I appreciate this may sound like a real newbie question but I've recently upgraded my old upright bass and subsequently taken the Shadow pickup off the bridge of my old bass to put it on the new bass. It was a tight fit on the original bridge but I'm having the opposite problem with my new bass and the pads simply slide out of the gaps in the bridge. Where am I going wrong? I figure I can't be the first person to have this problem so looking for tips / advice. They really are quite loose and just fall out. I don't want to buy a new pickup and it was an aftermarket pickup so it's not like it should fit the old bass and not the new one.
15. If you prefer flats to rounds (& forgive me there isn't a lot to go on in terms of likes) then something like a Quarter Pounder is much more modern and high output. You may prefer a more traditional sound like Seymour Duncans SPB-1 which gives that classic tone. Changing the pickup can take the bass in a number of directions so any decision really comes down to what you are hoping to achieve. Fixing a problem with strings may mean something better quality but less dramatic is required. if you wanted more oomph then I'd be looking an SPB-3. The second hand market is good for pickups as they don't really hold their value and the Antiquity range by Seymour Duncan are expensive but eBay bargains can be had. Equally I've tried and used nice alternatives by Wizard (recently stopped making them but still around 2nd hand), Kent Armstrong (not quite as good but cheaper) and Dimarzio. It's really just a case of knowing what types of sound you are looking for.
16. It's not his property to damage. Not impressed.
17.
Any know if the old bridge covers will fit over the highmass bridges? If I got one of these I'd need to fit covers too it!
They do although I googled it and after much hunting was told they didn't. I can officially reveal there are people out there talking nonsense about bass! (not on Basschat... well not about this at least )
I'm gona do a huge bump! Anyone had much experience with the Squier 50s' P-Bass since this topic? How has the pine wood held up? Have you swapped the pups for something a bit stronger? Seriously considering swapping my SUB Ray4 for one, gona have a play on Tuesday... Tony.
Yes, I have one and love it. Again a lot of nonsense is said about pine. I have a pine tele that has been running for years with no issues. I was going to mod mine but it turns out the only changes needed were cosmetic - I got the Bassdoc to do a white pickguard, added ashtrays and a thumb rest. Oh & strung it with flats. The pickup was a certainty to go UNTIL I actually got the bass and plugged it in! Those Duncan designed pickups are amazing - saved me a fortune!
18.
there were only 150-odd followers when I took over the account in Aug 2012, so that's encouraging.
I can see why there has been an increase Silvia, your involvement has certainly woken things up a little Keep up the good work

20.
....but they're both 34" scale
I googled it to prove you wrong and you are indeed quite right. Just so long as someone knows what they are talking about.... now as you all were
21. I'm quite tempted by these http://www.fender.com/squier/series/vintage-modified/vintage-modified-cabronita-precision-bass-maple-fingerboard-black/
