1. Good effort! Coming on nicely fellow team members. This was mine on day 15...
2. Weekend bump for a great player
3. I had to buy new valves as my one was breaking up too early for my tastes. That doesn't sound too right to me. They tend to break up quite early so it could be your own isn't quite right. Personally more my tastes but not typical Orange. You need to test it against another TB head to see. It's been my only gigging head for about 3yrs now so I was surprised when I saw this thread.
4.
do we have any HOT MODS?? pics please
I think the official line is that collectively we cater for a range of tastes.
5. I've used Grolsch since the mid 90s and never been put off by the colour. I am put off by strap locks though. Don't know why, just not for me.
6.
Lovely Bass....just out of interest whats the date on the pots?
I'm afraid I'd never checked..... so just been upstairs with a screwdriver and they are a more recent addition. Difficult to read any dates but I would suggest the wiring is more modern. I've owned it 4yrs and never had cause to look so they would pre-date that but they are not as dated as my 70s Fenders used to look. Just as a general observation for anyone reading the questions / replies, it is probably worth mentioning that the price of an all original 76 would be about 3.5 times what is asked of this and this was always priced to reflect the fact that it is parts put together. Kind of vintage Fender on the cheap, as it were. But a lovely bass nonetheless.
7. It's as good a theory as any Dazza, although my friend used to stock Vintage basses in his shop and it doesn't quite have the same feel. It's certainly been relic'd by a previous owner prior to Fluffo and I owning it but we felt it was an older body. I suspect it will always remain a mystery. You could be right but I'm not 100% convinced just yet. Those Vintage basses are great though. As said earlier though everything else is either Fender USA or in the case of the pickups 70s Dimarzio.
8. Well the pub cat liked the house bass amp... or possibly my sound coming out of it?
9. I was with the prostate cancer guys when I had my cancer treatment. Thankfully increasingly treatable when caught early. Anyone who clicked on this thread who wants to donate to the Basschat Movember team who are raising cash to fight cancers precisely like this can do so by clicking the link https://www.movember.com/uk/donate/payment/team_id/1017501/ Fingers crossed for Pete that he is another to make a full recovery.
10. It certainly looks like the range has been scaled back with the SP210 being replaced and the SP410 seems to have gone too. The SP212 is still fairly widely available but perhaps someone reading has better insider knowledge???
11. Great idea for a thread; I've often wondered about tips and recommendations. When I've played bluegrass / roots / country / folk stuff I have always used a Shadow pickup in the bridge. It seems to give me the tone of the bass & not colour the sound so I have stuck with that. I always just used to go through the PA with upright but I'm currently playing rockabilly / old rock 'n' roll / jump blues stuff and using my Orange Terror bass rig. It sounds good but I do wonder if an Ampeg Portaflex would be a better set up. I like the aesthetic side of things to look right too but must confess that portability and tone are my main motivations. Certainly the Orange stuff is delivering on those fronts which is why I haven't done anything to change thus far.
12. A few messages but still very much for sale
13. Being as we are the Bass Playing Taches, here is my 9 day old effort rocking my top lip last night at The Gladstone in central London.
14. You'd get a 60s clicky sound, it's wonderful. I use a P bass but like to play both finger style & with a pick depending on the song. Go for it, you won't be dissapointed. Plus if flats don't work out for you they are easy enough to sell on.
15.
I reckon you and Waynepunkdude are vying for the biggest percentage weight loss in the time I've been on BassChat. You both look (almost) like different people. Can you share your secrets with me, haha!
It really is just a case of eating better / eat smaller portions and being a bit more active. I lost a total of 4 stone quite healthily and naturally. To be fair when you saw me I was post cancer treatment drugs and my weight had ballooned to a record high. I'm actually back to where I was in my 20s so I'm happy with that. I don't think my weight had varied more than 3kgs in 2yrs which is good.

17. Sounds great and we should also congratulate ourselves on some splendid avatars. Well done Gents!
18. Parts are easy to get for Fenders, also Leo Fender designed stuff to be replaced easily. I think these are the main reasons before people start going on about Q/C. WIthin about a year of owning a Squier (my 1st) I was changing the scratchplate and it just progresses from that. Also it is quite good fun, proven by the fact we regularly get posters on here saying they are buying a bass to mod it. Typed as CamdenRob posted.
19. A far cry from the gear threads I'd post circa 2008/9, I've been operating at a GAS free happier level for about 3yrs now. Nothing against the pursuit for dream gear but I've been learning to appreciate what I have, spend cash travelling / doing other things & not have 30 instruments sitting in cases! Anyway, presenting - The blondes in my life; my European upright bass (with Shadow pickup) & Squier CV 50s P-bass with Vox practice amp half in shot. My old faithful striped 70s Fender Precision & Orange rig. It's my only rig I use & all I need. And that's all folks (apart from an acoustic guitar, a mandolin & a telecaster that are mostly rested these days)...
20.
Can't remember if I've posted a pic of my pink P-Bass? So, just in case I haven't, here it is: I used it for recording last week - at the studio of Wet Wet Wet's guitarist Graeme Duffin. It's a converted building literally 5 minutes from my house. The engineer, Sandy, who worked on the Wets' hits loved the instrument's sound, which was a really nice compliment.
Just perfect. My girlfriend's daughter would love me to own this. Cool as...
21. I had the opposite thing happen to me a couple of years ago when my P bass wanted me to get a girlfriend!?! Nice pic btw
22. I find stuff comes full circle. The Clash & the New York Dolls were my favourite bands at one point but I reckon they've been played about 3 times in the last 15yrs. If space is the problem Amazon marketplace to make money or charity shop if you just want shot of them.
23. I've been bullying drummers into using them since 2007, brilliant stuff. Unfortunately the drummer in my current band bought a blue camouflage one but yours looks the biz.
24. I've been through the whole buying basses GAS thing and now am happy with a couple, ironically favouring a Squier. I think ultimately it's whatever works for you. If you want a £2k bass, go for it. I had a lot of fun buying kit (unnecessarily?) but am thankfully more settled now.
