1. I find stuff comes full circle. The Clash & the New York Dolls were my favourite bands at one point but I reckon they've been played about 3 times in the last 15yrs. If space is the problem Amazon marketplace to make money or charity shop if you just want shot of them.
2. I've been bullying drummers into using them since 2007, brilliant stuff. Unfortunately the drummer in my current band bought a blue camouflage one but yours looks the biz.
3. I've been through the whole buying basses GAS thing and now am happy with a couple, ironically favouring a Squier. I think ultimately it's whatever works for you. If you want a £2k bass, go for it. I had a lot of fun buying kit (unnecessarily?) but am thankfully more settled now.
4. Weekend bump
5. My tastes in (healthier) foods have completely changed in the last 5yrs. My tastes in bass gear is the same as it always has been - & I have tried to keep an open mind.
6. Took da kids on a trip to the local Fire station today - the only photo I have... I really don't normally look like this!
7. Good luck everyone. Avatar in place. I read it as we shave last thing at night but the rules aren't too clear. Here we mo!
8.
A lot of the squeezebox players I know (including me) use these guys http://www.newmoonin...sical/index.php
I came to New Moon through Basschat. I've not made a claim but if you give them a call they are really helpful. I had issues around values and ownership that Musicguard couldn't answer. I get the impression this lot would be more likely to payout as the advice I got was sensible and realistic.
9. Our school bought keyboards and I remember a room full of 12yr olds trying to play popular TV themes. It was hell. No bass or guitars at my school, we were all fully embracing the 1980s!
10. Not sure why you didn't get a response but I put flats on a few acoustic basses and it really wakes up the bass in my experience. Sometimes they can even make a cheap sounding bass sound really classic. Go for it!

12. For those who might be interested. The Velvets were standard listening when I was in Sixth Form http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lou-reed-velvet-underground-leader-and-rock-pioneer-dead-at-71-20131027
13. I have a girl in each of my bands who are both talented and classy, each good looking. One plays violin / keyboards and one sings. Drunken idiots in pubs come in all shapes and sizes after all.
14. Welcome back Jon. A few rule changes on buying and selling since you last came here (check the links in my sig for up to date rules) but good to have you back. Still the best bass community online
15. In terms of replying to the email, personally I'd send a brief but not rude reply just acknowledging the email. No point arguing, and it looks more professional. Quite often when bands do this they break up shortly after. Go out with some class and dignity, moving on to better things, be it bass or fishing
16. It's a problem that is more common on Jazz basses. I've come across it twice and got rid of both basses in the end (one was resolved with a new pup & the other I cut my losses, taking a massive hit getting rid of it). I had a blue flower bass like this and the volume across the strings was perfect so this thread has certainly come as a surprise. My gut feeling is if you have switched the pup then the setup or the strings would be the next thing to look at. Something as simple as a deader couple of string could be the issue? Pickup wise I appreciate you can't keep buying them but Seymour Duncan's Antiquity range is really well balanced and I've used those on tele basses before. Good luck sorting it out.
17. Both my basses are 70s but I recently bought a Squier as I wanted a cheaper bass. So I did exclusively play older kit until a couple of months ago and didn't worry about reliability. I noticed a change in the market too and stuff certainly isn't going for the price it would have done around 2009. I think it is down to the recession. There is still a huge demand for vintage stuff but it just can't command the same prices. I think offering collection only etc impacts on price though. It's dipped a bit but not massively. The examples like that Rickenbacker are not the norm but they are increasingly common.
18. I'm with Hobbayne here, nice bass. Hofner also do a Verythin bass and a club bass, both of which are great fun. The Burns Bison always sounded a bit weak to me but looked the part. Assuming you are avoiding the Jazz / Precision route?
19. pics removed to free up space
20. Going rate is £337 right now with free delivery. I have one, great bass. Loads of 0% finance deals around now so for £33.70 a month it is a better way than EBay.
21. Carpet tape should do it - people have done this before
22. Great design and great bass, fair play to you.
23. For me it'd be a 1955 / 1956 butterscotch Fender P-bass although I agree that I'd rather have the money for a holiday or something else these days. I worry enough about taking a Squier around some of the venues I've played!
24. I would have said I didn't like Jazz as my Dad was a pro Jazz drummer in the 60s and probably tried too hard to get me into it at an early age. As a kid I did like things like the theme from Starsky & Hutch and through that I've got a few albums that range Acid Jazz through to some stuff from the 60s and 70s. My Dad reliably informs me this is "the wrong sort of Jazz" though. It's very limiting hating genres though. I like the almost universally panned country music which people tend to associate with acts like Don Williams. I'm forever playing them stuff which gets the reaction "well I like that"
25.
How are you getting on with it?
Superb. I'm playing it more than any other instrument right now (upright bass aside) to the extent that I am thinking of getting rid of my USA Fender P bass. The stock pickup was the big surprise as I bought it figuring it would be the first thing to go. It sounds great, is very playable and is just great fun.
