1. Growing up it was bands like The Dogs D'Amour and The Quireboys who made me want to play but I'm sure the grooves on my parents records planted an earlier seed I wasn't aware of at the time
2. Typical Kiss... This year they have done Kiss toilet roll, Kiss Pez Dispensers and arguably their wildest venture yet - a rock album!
3. We have a policy (read that as directive from our frontman) that we support the other acts on the bill. I agree with the sentiment of the original post. It's polite & well mannered. It's quite often not reciprocated though. It's usually better when the bands are in the same genre. Being signed to a small indie label we definitely have that old school family vibe when we play with the other Clubhouse Records acts. We have a 5 band bill next week & that will be more of a Christmas party than a gig
4.
And get yer air cut.
I believe both Rick & Francis both have now, although possibly not in anticipation of your post!?!
5. Those early couple of 60s Psych albums for me. I'd love them to be fashionable, they are actually good players away from the band and come across well in interview. I remember Francis Rossi being interviewed by some smug young journalist and he politely turned the interview on it's head by asking the journalist "do you actually know what a chord is?" The interview was better for it's sudden lack of smugness.
6. I must confess I haven't played them for years (queue comments about not being the only one!) but I thought they were a good band back in the day. They were the soundtrack to a generation which is more than most of us manage. Granted people were unlikely to get the bassist mixed up with Dr. Funkenstein but it fitted the music. I'm not surprised to learn it was Noel playing. But let the record show I always preferred Pulp & Supergrass.
7. As long as our M&Ms backstage are the right colour and I've not had to waste time folding small sandwiches at the tour manager I'm easy
8. It's genuinely known and I don't keep it a secret but to counterbalance that I don't say anything to the public / customers when working normally, even if the subject of bass or music comes up.
9.
Lead vocal - Kelly Holland Guitar - Audley Freed Bass- Robert Kearns Drums - Jason Patterson
Cry of Love? Nice
10. I've been playing with covers on since the late 90s, not a problem - you adapt! Simple. Palm muting etc can be easily achieved with foam.
11. The Traveling Wilburys wasn't a bad effort, Tom Petty can go back on guitar and I'll play his Dano longhorn. Job done. Would have been good after Roy Orbison died if Del Shannon who was lined up as a replacement hadn't committed suicide as I've liked him since I was a little kid. Sadly history didn't work out that way and worse still they lot me as a bassist!
12. Micro head with a vintage style cab? Yep, that's pretty much me

14. Why relegated? I've mostly been a bass player but after years of playing moved to guitar for a few years. It was great fun but returned to bass when a band I really liked approached me. I also play mandolin. I see myself as a bassist / multi-instrumentalist
15. The Orange SP210 for me & I regularly get soundmen commenting on how good it is. The 212 would be better but funds didn't allow. I play Americana / roots / country / soul / bluesy rock so not too far from what you do
16. Bill's bass is his signature bass that he launched last year http://www.andertons.co.uk/electric-basses/pid20883/cid682/bill-wyman-signature-bass.asp
17. I agree with the above two posts. I've played a few & with a good set up they are always stunning. Unless they are badly looked after (as with any instrument) I see no reason why you couldn't get a great 2nd hand one
18. Looks like my old bass (it's not though!). These are great basses
19. I certainly don't wish to suggest it is the norm for everyone but I think I was using GAS as a substitute for other things lacking in my life. It was only when my marriage started to fail that I suddenly started buying loads of basses. At the time I didn't see what I was doing. I was always upfront about what I was buying but it got silly and I could rotate instruments at one a month with a stock at home of over 20. When my marriage finally ended a few years later I sold stuff off and felt better. I've used the same bass since for every gig and haven't bought anything new for over a couple of years. I feel like I've done the whole owning loads of gear thing now and the bass I use is perfectly fine. Whilst I say it may not be the norm I bet there are a few on here who subconsiously are doing what I used to do even if their circumstances are slightly different. I'd rather live my life then collect stuff that I don't have time to play all at once. GAS *can* be a really dangerous thing. I'm sure my girlfriend now would let me buy whatever I want but I don't need anything
20. Having only owned 34" scale necked basses I bought my Hofner Verithin bass a couple of years back (30.5") and it is the only bass I use now. So, no
21. Amazingly shot phone footage of a first run through with no mics & 15w practice amps. I was impressed with how well this came out
22. All the Danos I have played sound great. They seriously challenge all the stuff said about the importance of woods and quality hardware. More for recording though as they are quite fragile. I quite like these personally but nothing will beat the old 90s Longhorn I used on a studio session back in the day
23.
Likewise. Just because it's on the cover doesn't mean that's what's on the record. Could be a 5 string Status with the right EQ....
Whilst it's a fair point in most circumstances we also need to consider what a posey scene it was, where the right look was key. I'd wager he didn't!
24. I play some mandolin and guitar too but as bass has always been my main instrument I have always thought of myself as a bass player who happens to dabble (not too badly at times) on other instruments. Make of that what you will but playing simple 3 or 4 chord rock n roll I never used to call myself a musician. As time has gone on, I've got older and better I am more comfortable with the idea of rock guys being musicians. I suppose in days gone by I assumed you needed to read music to be a proper musician. Ultimately if I'm playing music I like with players I want to play with I don't really care what people call me.
