Orange Terror - anyone interested in a casing for theirs ?
Cat Burrito replied to mikegatward's topic in General Discussion
100% interested. There was a guy selling these on EBay a while back & I got pipped to the post. He said he'd import more & then never did. This would be amazing if it comes off. Cheers -
I'm delighted this was posted; I've been waiting weeks for an e-ticket and discovered it was there all along in my Spam folder that I never check. I'm afraid I did receive the "Newtown, Connecticut is the second Dunblane Primary-School Massacre" email but in a bid to tackle identity fraud I always give out Cliff Richard's details so no worries from me. I've not seen this on here but stumbled across this short film on YouTube. Granted the commentator attempting a French accent towards the end was somewhat unwise and I don't always agree with him but I thought this was generally good fun.

My experiences are different (slightly). I played bass all through college into my 20s and early 30s. I then started working with a songwriter who did drum programming, guitar, singing and piano. Naturally I wanted to raise my game so I started playing acoustic guitar quickly followed by mandolin then before I knew it I was on harmonica, banjo, lead guitar and dobro. The reality was I wasn't particularly good listening back now and spread myself far too thinly. Worried I always sounded like a bassist playing other instruments I focused on just guitar and went for lessons. My guitar playing just skyrocketed! The other instruments got left behind but a couple of years later when I started picking things up I was suddenly much, much better on all of the things I'd forgotten about. If you are starting, focus on one thing and build up your skills a little bit before branching out. Most multi instrumentalists tend to be "jack of all trades, master of none" which is fine but get the basics down a bit on one first and you'll benefit longer term. I'm pushing 40 and still very much learning on everything now. Have fun along the way

Think beyond the genre. We play Americana but the band who got mentioned most in the studio last week for us was The Beatles. I think the trick is to beg, borrow and steal from the best of everything to give your music more of an edge

Can vouch this is a fantastic bass - it was my main player for years and was the only one I ever claimed I'd never sell (a sudden change in circs forced the sale!). I can account for every knock and dink in that bass. It's played the Marquee, toured the UK, been on TV and generally lived like a main player should. The body is from 1989 and it became something of a Triggers Broom despite being more looked after than it sounds. Someone will get a bargain here

How long does stuff take to come from Thomann?
Cat Burrito replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
I've placed a small handful of orders from them and they always used to arrive in just a few days -
I was in a band 18yrs ago where they all had stage names (I reluctantly changed my surname for the duration I was in). It's fine if you can remember to call people by them - we invariably couldn't. Fast forward to around 1997 and this pretentious young band showed up to support us. The singer was going around introducing himself as Zak in a pretentious American accent. Seemed to be going well until his very middle class mother walked in chiming in a very clipped voice "Clinton, you've forgotten your Luzocade!" Sadly for that young man I was in a band with the biggest bunch of mickey takers at the time and the poor guy had to keep a very low profile afterwards.

One of the odder emails I have received recently
Cat Burrito replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
In truth, I'm not at all sure what post-jazz is
I assume something like this!?! -
Growing up it was bands like The Dogs D'Amour and The Quireboys who made me want to play but I'm sure the grooves on my parents records planted an earlier seed I wasn't aware of at the time

Typical Kiss... This year they have done Kiss toilet roll, Kiss Pez Dispensers and arguably their wildest venture yet - a rock album!

We have a policy (read that as directive from our frontman) that we support the other acts on the bill. I agree with the sentiment of the original post. It's polite & well mannered. It's quite often not reciprocated though. It's usually better when the bands are in the same genre. Being signed to a small indie label we definitely have that old school family vibe when we play with the other Clubhouse Records acts. We have a 5 band bill next week & that will be more of a Christmas party than a gig

Those early couple of 60s Psych albums for me. I'd love them to be fashionable, they are actually good players away from the band and come across well in interview. I remember Francis Rossi being interviewed by some smug young journalist and he politely turned the interview on it's head by asking the journalist "do you actually know what a chord is?" The interview was better for it's sudden lack of smugness.

Oasis - Whats The Story Morning Glory Album
Cat Burrito replied to Hobbayne's topic in General Discussion
I must confess I haven't played them for years (queue comments about not being the only one!) but I thought they were a good band back in the day. They were the soundtrack to a generation which is more than most of us manage. Granted people were unlikely to get the bassist mixed up with Dr. Funkenstein but it fitted the music. I'm not surprised to learn it was Noel playing. But let the record show I always preferred Pulp & Supergrass. -
Stage left or tage right. Who cares ?
Cat Burrito replied to BILL POSTERS's topic in General Discussion
As long as our M&Ms backstage are the right colour and I've not had to waste time folding small sandwiches at the tour manager I'm easy -
Do you tell your work colleagues that you play bass?
Cat Burrito replied to mentalextra's topic in General Discussion
It's genuinely known and I don't keep it a secret but to counterbalance that I don't say anything to the public / customers when working normally, even if the subject of bass or music comes up. -

I've been playing with covers on since the late 90s, not a problem - you adapt! Simple. Palm muting etc can be easily achieved with foam.

The Traveling Wilburys wasn't a bad effort, Tom Petty can go back on guitar and I'll play his Dano longhorn. Job done. Would have been good after Roy Orbison died if Del Shannon who was lined up as a replacement hadn't committed suicide as I've liked him since I was a little kid. Sadly history didn't work out that way and worse still they lot me as a bassist!

Micro head with a vintage style cab? Yep, that's pretty much me -

Bass player by choice, or relegated guitarist?
Cat Burrito replied to Tuono's topic in General Discussion
Why relegated? I've mostly been a bass player but after years of playing moved to guitar for a few years. It was great fun but returned to bass when a band I really liked approached me. I also play mandolin. I see myself as a bassist / multi-instrumentalist
