Nothing in stock at present but certainly worth a chat. I agree £2k is realistic and forgive my rusty knowledge around 1973 Jazz basses but the 70s Jazzes occasionally have problems with the 3 bolt necks so if you are not sure punt for a 4 bolt neck (I say that they might all be 4 bolt for 73 and a lot of 70s 3 bolt necks are fine! - er, thanks I hear you say!?!)

The novelty of new gear wore off for me a while ago & it hasn't come back. I much prefer playing the same bass & having money to get away rather than stay at home with 30 instruments I don't play. In the last 9 months I've gotten a case & a practice amp - both needed & both were Christmas presents. Gas is great if you like the thrill of the chase but a real pain when it just becomes habit. It seems the days of people posting about expensive basses over the festive period are long gone. Personally I was delighted with my fitted hard case for my Jazz and a little Vox practice amp. Good stuff

Rich advertised for a P-bass bridge cover and I had a spare kicking about. A hassle free transaction and a total gent to deal with

I have my cab flightcased. It has a table cloth over it and some Bob Dylan coasters on top of it, along with some tea lights. It's used as a mini table for the guests (I live alone incidentally). Santa is bringing me a 10w Vox practice amp so that may go on display depending on what interest it gets from the cats.

I swear it was theme tunes like this one that planted the seed in the back of my mind about me playing bass

Why not advertise for a second hand hardly used set here? I've picked up a bunch of sets here really cheap over the years. I think the Fender ones are ok if you do go new

I'm a bit of a convert too. As a lifelong P-bass player I did have a phase briefly around 1995 that didn't work out so I reverted back to the Precision. I then bought a 70s bitsa Fender Jazz just over a year ago and it's been my mainstay live bass since May this year. I've not gigged with anything else .

Awesome thread. My main Precision is a 79 I stripped - I kind of liked yours as you had it (funny guy that I am!) but that looks amazing. Good effort

Likewise, they replaced a faulty bulb when mine went FOC. I am happy staying loyal to them (obviously not just because of the bulb!)

Yes and yes. I try to book leave when we are playing further afield. It was harder a couple of years ago when I was juggling 3 bands and shift work but always seemed to land on my feet. Now I'm office hours and just one act so a fair bit easier

22nd December 1989, the school pantomine! We were in lower sixth (Year 12 in new money) and we were the band that played the ball. We were pretty rubbish really in front of 800 students but lived out our rock star fantasies. We got to play assembly 9 months later at the start of Upper Sixth and totally nailed it. All the girls fancied us for at least 2 wks until the school rugby team won something and then we reverted back to just being that bunch of nancy boys again. Fame is a fickle mistress

Basses are always just tools. They might look amazingly cool etc etc but they are just there to serve us. Good or bad, they ain't going to sound quite the same when they are not be played

I've done a couple (Precisions) and I did test patches UNDER where the pickguard goes - best bit of advice I can give. I was happy with both my end results and I just used normal wood dye from B&Q with a bit of oil to finish it off

I have his autobiography for Xmas, he certainly looks like he's lived it these days

I'm getting flashbacks to school in the late 1980s... never had a great rep but some were ok if you can get a cheap example

I used to love the Manics in the early days but must confess lost interest once their mainstream album Everything Must Go came out. I think he's great, he doesn't pretend to be a great player but actually fits the band well. Personally I thought his solo album was a step too far but fair play to him

Being played... they are keepers so players don't worry about the condition for resale value
