1. When I had cancer music was a big healer - I was playing live during treatments, gigging shortly after surgery and the doctors were laughing because I was more concerned about not being able to play live then going back to work! Likewise my marriage break up was something I coped with through music. I even did a gig on what would have been my wedding anniversary. You have to do what you have to do to get through the day And my relationship with music has proven to run deeper than my marriage did!
2. I've owned an Orange Crush Pix CR50BXT & an Ampeg BA-115. Not quite what you asked but pretty similar. I found the Ampeg tilt a tad unstable but probably more versatile with the 5 tone options it offers. The Orange had a really nice tone overall but mine was just a practice amp version. I'm kind of with StraightSix here in that it comes down to personal taste. Personally I'd probably lean towards the Orange just because the colour stands out but tonally both were fine. And again with xgsjx I'd favour a second hand bargain as the resale value of amps (especially in the current climate) suggests it's very much a buyers market right now
3. I'm a massive Orange fan but I thought £30 for a book was a bit steep in my mind. I have a bunch of books on gear but this just pushes it out of my league I'm afraid. I'd need to see it to consider a purchase
4. I have 3 and always use them when playing live (not all 3 though!). The Jazz is a bit less stable but if I angle it right (which I always do now) it's perfectly serviceable.
5. It doesn't seem to hurt when I've done it in the past. I'm now rocking a smaller rig though so usually find the strength to drag it in during the early hours. Valve heads & basses ALWAYS come in though
6. Oh, easy as that - they are!
7.
I'd love to see/hear more here - any decent youtube links of fave tracks?
For some reason the html codes for youtube clips aren't working - is this because the site changed? So can't post any fav tracks but here's some links
8. Gary, I'm just chuffed this thread got a reply! I thought it was going to die a similar death to my "What's your favourite Uncle Tupelo b-side?"
9. ...but Shonna Tucker appears to have left the band She was my favourite bassist of recent years too https://www.facebook.com/drivebytruckers
10.
Milk away, Sir. I played some of your band's output to my guitar-chum, who remarked "Ooh. Nice rhythm section. Proper for that sort of stuff."
Cheers, Andy is a great drummer & with Americana it's usually the guitars / vocals that get the glory. Neither of us have been mentioned in the reviews for our playing (yet) - usually a sign that we're doing our job.
Good Stuff. Props to ya. Are you planning to play locally anywhere? I have a feeling I'm just round the corner from you.
Ta. We play all over the UK but 2012 is definitely in need of being populated with some gigs. Watch this space, I guess
11. I think daphne blue or surf green look great on Fender basses with rosewood
12. The 50s P bass would be my choice but the standards (MIM & USA) are both decent right now
13. Milking this thread with a 2 minute follow up piece on CBS the next day http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7390432n&tag=mncol;lst;1
14. Playing the old Marquee Club in London back in the day, recording my last album & having heroes of mine see my band (& like us). It's all good
15. I quite like those 60s chrome stacked ones but to be fair prefer to stick with tradition
16.
Nice one mate! Is Pete a Scot??
Yes, he's from Elgin originally but lived here since the 80s. We're from the Thames Valley area but the drummer was born in Scotland too & I have a lot of family roots up there too. I don't think we have any Welsh roots in the band Rhys unfortunately
17. Don't know the show or watch TV and McFly probably aren't aiming their music at me but I would say the guys in McFly are all much better musicians than people give them credit for. Don't care if that's not cool, they are all reasonable musicians
18.
well I started listening to that and thought "you're right what is this music" but by the end I was annoyed that they were chatting over the top of it.... it sounds good- have you got a link to your myspace/bandcamp/whatever?
The new album plays here http://www.amazon.co...23021561&sr=1-1 but we're on all the sites you'd expect - Itunes, bandcamp, myspace (rip) etc - Not a hint to buy, by the way!
Great stuff - but isn't it typical how most of the band shots managed to exclude the bass player!
I'm not normally to be fair but was a bit unlucky on the cutaways they used there
19. Exposure doesn't get much better than 5 mins on national TV in the US. Really a feature on the singer but we all appear http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7390313n Even if you don't like our music we have some interesting characters in the band
20. I used to own a USA 60th anniversary P-bass. Nice bass, I sold it on through this site as part of my major kit cull. The reality is there are so many reasons for why every (Fender) bass could be limited edition that it hardly impacts on price. Fender have so many little tweaks here & there it makes little difference. Sounds like you have a nice bass so I'd enjoy it for what it is but don't expect the resale value to rocket
21. I used to use 40-100 but over the last few years I've opted either 55-115 or 50-110. Nothing a bit of practice won't allow you to adjust towards and a definite improvement. I'd imagine much harder for the really showy playing but great for general usage
22. They're a truly great band, all good players. I'm seeing them at Moles in Bath just before Christmas and have high expectations. Probably my favourite new band in years
23. I managed 3 bands at once for a while on top of a busy stressful job. It probably led to the break up of my marriage but it can be done. I kept them very separate - people don't want your other project forced on them. Be open but then keep it low key. I was up front at the start & people genuinely forgot - I had people at the end say "I didn't know you had another band" when I'd mentioned it when I met them originally. More recently I've thought about a 2nd project again but to be honest my life is too full with other stuff away from music. I will do jams & stand ins etc though
24. I am on here a LOT less than I used to be but put it down to a change in me rather than a change in the site. I enjoy myself when I'm on here but it tends to be 10 mins every couple of days rather than spending half my evening every night on here. Off topic aside I guess there is only so much time you can spend re visiting "Fender vs Warwick", "Are Rotosound rubbish?" and the usual threads. Great fun first time around but once your opinion has been shared I guess people start to know where you stand. After all I guess only so much can be said about the bands we like and the gear we play. You wouldn't have the same debate with your friends over and over again. Let the new posters have fun with the topics I've debated So personally I'm off doing a bunch of other stuff but having a genuinely renewed interest when I do come on here.
