1.
Greetings Burrito... It's a bit of an odd sensation comparing our post counts that I should be giving you my opinion on how much your girl's Dad's bass might be worth! But anyway... At the top I would have said around £2600 in good unmodified condition. Changing a bridge often leaves remnant traces of having done so, as does changing a scratchplate. It's rare you can change an original s/p for an off-the-shelf replacemment without having to 'stretch' the original screw holes a bit - and in many cases fill them and re-position them slightly, so the same applies - remnant traces will always be present and these decrease values quite markedly. De-soldering has the same effect on value. My guess at best - with original parts included - would be around fifteen hundred quid. That finish isn't too popular either, so maybe even a little less. Hope this helps. Cheers.
Post count means nothing - I have a lot of chat but nothing to say. I figured between £1500 - £1800 depending on the condition of the parts not fitted.
2.
Is he going to let you borrow it?
Oh yeah, definitely - he's a top bloke.
3. I was around my girlfriend's house last night when her Dad came over. It's the second time I have met him and he's a bassist too. He'd told me he had a Fender Precision he'd bought in 1973 (I checked the serial number and his memory serves him well). Anyhow, he brought his bass over. He's got the original non-Fender case but has changed the pickguard, pickup and bridge. I gather he has all the original parts but I don't think they are in a brilliant state (all working fine though). It was his main gigging bass for most of his career so one that screams mojo rather than a museum piece. The frets have a fair bit of life on it but it would probably benefit from a refret at some point in the future. He'd quite rightly never sell it but I was curious as to what people thought it'd be worth. It's pretty lightweight too incidentally. I loved playing it! It's quite cool having a girlfriend who's Dad is a player - she did look a bit bored when we were discussing the pro's and con's of flats verses roundwounds and at my age I should know to keep such conversation away from a partner! Anyway, pics attached. Correction poor phone snaps attached
4. Funnily enough I was chatting with my mate in the guitar shop today about Far East countries picking odd names - in the late 90s they had a brand called Diana and now Delilah is a new one surfacing. I had an old Diana tuner for years
5. Does anyone know which breed of dog it is that will actually be able to tell the difference?
6. Courtesy of Basschat came these excellent recommendations; Might not be to most of your tastes but it's 100% me
7. I'm in the quietest band I've ever been in and I'm always guided by soundmen / venues, purely on the grounds they *should* know their venue & client base. I agree with the majority of the comments posted thus far
8.
Why would you be selling a bass? Sorry don't understand the question... ;-)
You've obviously not got divorced then? Most of mine have gone now but life is too short for regrets
9. I've been playing with the covers on since the 1990s and I don't reckon there is any tonal difference to speak of. Just a question of taste. I think it looks good & I've been doing it so long that I don't feel they get in the way. And I reckon 1982 would be about right
10. We have deps for all of us that are rehearsed up & ready to go should the worst happen. We pay them more but as has been said, the show must go on
11. I flightcased my cab so I now just stick the cab on the flightcase when we gig. Job done
12. I sell on stuff if it doesn't get played. I've only ever owned stuff I really like so it requires being a little ruthless at times. Right now I am back down to 4 basses and that figure wont be getting higher. My GAS days are over and I prefer spending money on other things now. It was fun whilst it lasted though
13. People can of course do whatever they want. I think the reality is that when the hard times hit (& life is after all a series of highs and lows) it's the duplicates that go. I have 2 Precisions now but at my peak had 5. I probably wouldn't bother with several of the same model again but it was good fun whilst it lasted.
14. I had a bunch of Warwick cases about 5yrs ago and they were always really good, well made and reliable. They were cheaper than that too so assume that is a deluxe case
15. Pete in action - and yes he is a left hooker, not a mirror image photo
16. I've got some from a 62RI Fender USA Jazz that I'd sell on for £22 if you are interested? No worries if not - bought them on here and they were only ever used briefly for a project bass I sold for parts
17. Oh & bizarrely my picture is on the wall above the bar - during my Glam / Sleaze days, a casual shot of my guitarist and I outside the Marquee Club. Very strange. I remember someone taking it at the time - just a random stranger!
18. We're going to bin our MySpace soon which is around 5000 fans as it's just awful. Facebook is better although I think we only have 300 - 400 fans. It's people who (mainly) want to be there though, rather than promote their own thing. So again I don't think it's about numbers
19. BigRedX makes a valid point about how up for it the crowd are. Smallest - 3 plus pub staff (twice!) Largest - about 900
20. I listed this on EBay but figured I'd make mention of it on these here pages too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electro-Acoustic...2#ht_500wt_1156 I know everyone says this but I really didn't want to sell this but needs must edited as per Blademan's comment - cheers
