1.
In before someone says Moondance.
When I saw Bilbo had started this thread I am afraid I clicked on this to do just that.
The cantina band from Star Wars.
In all seriousness I think television & film has a huge part to play in developing people's tastes. My Dad was a pro Jazz drummer before I was born and always tried forcing jazz on me. So I naturally swung towards my Mum's records. However a lot of TV soundtrack's opened my eyes away from rock & pop music. Even stuff like the Pink Panther and Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) influenced me as a bassist and as a music fan. And the Cantina Band were great fun. Apologies if my taste in Jazz is a bit "McDonalds"
2. My understanding was you can record CDs of covers to get gigs so long as you don't sell it at gigs to make money
3. I have & I thought the product was great but the service was just "ok". I've since ordered from http://www.hi-speccases.co.uk/index.html these guys and was knocked off my feet by a 2 day turnaround for a custom order. I have had a few flightcases made and didn't think this was possible
4. I was a bassist for years and then I accidentally stumbled into guitar around 2005. I played really seriously for until 2009 when I caught the bass bug again. Playing lead solos in a band was very different to being a bassist and I enjoyed it at the time. I was ill and needed to scale back on my musical commitments though so something had to give. I feel more comfortable on bass so went back to my roots. I'm not against the idea of playing guitar again but would always prefer the role of bass player as it feels more me. My preference for band role is something like; 1) Bass Guitar 2) Upright Bass 3) Mandolin 4) Electric Guitar 5) Acoustic Guitar 6) Banjo Ultimately I'd rather play a lesser choice instrument in a first choice band then bass in a third rate act! Right now I am indeed having my cake and eating it
5. I didn't want to be the first to mention this seller... so I won't! Nice bass. Always fancied a 70s Guild
6. I'm with markstuk here although I too would wait & see the band first. Alarm bells should be ringing but it *could* be quite genuine. A minor pain if you have had to put a lot into learning stuff. Fingers crossed it all works out ok
7. There have been a couple of more negative threads around trades recently which certainly don't reflect my experiences. It is genuinely nice to see positive things written about just one of the many, many good things about Basschat. Not a knock at the starters of the other threads, I sincerely wish them better luck in the future.
8. I always liked the Westone Thunder 1A basses that were kicking about at school in the late 1980s. Didn't know there was a site though
9. My old tutor used to collect Eko's & I kinda like this. I wouldn't buy it mind
10. It'd cost nothing to list it as a complaint. It's a bit of a grey area as on the one hand it's not listed as having one but you would expect to plug in & just go for it. If EBay rule against you, you've lost nothing.
11. Not the best photos so hard to tell. No strings attached though
12.
Rotosound in the 60s IIRC. A certain Mr Entwistle championed them I think Edit from their PR blurb: "Rotosound pioneered the first roundwound bass strings in 1962"
This was my understanding too but it is interesting that they clearly didn't take off for at least a decade.
13. I thought it was Caesar!?! (Planet of the Apes, not the Romans)
14.
Mrs C appears to have hidden my BC t-shirt
Has she hidden mine too?
15. I've been beaten to it but just wanted to stop by & share the Johnny Cash love
16. I too like the wristband idea but it does involve some poor sod having to do the leg work! I vote matching tattoos
there's always the uber-cool BassChat T-shirts, of which I am a proud owner
which neither of us had on at the last Case Hardin show
17. I think it's virtually impossible to fully nail something on a forum when you've only read a couple of paragraphs but my impressions echo the replies you've had so far. Just remember more time away from home does have an impact sometimes if you do consider a side project
18.
And if it can keep up with Andy & Lee, it must be up to the job, Tim! Hope that`s all going well btw, Andy was very complimentary when I spoke to him about it. Seems Orange is very prevalent in that set-up.
Yep, he's rocking a little Orange rig too! I'd forgotten just how loud Lee was. It's not helped with me spending the last 10yrs in country bands! Just the one rehearsal so far and it's for a one off gig. I'm sure it's seen for what it is and I trust it's not seen as any stepping on toes Lozz? And as importantly I hope you come to the reunion show? Grey power! Great to see the boys again but I'm looking forward to returning to a steadier tempo afterwards!
19. We tend to be playing the opening act at all our theatre / art centre gigs so it's just a case of turning up & playing. I'm sure it's the headliners who sell the tickets and we have little to do with it (of course if any promoters are reading this they'll know I am of course joking and those American bands would be stuffed without a local UK band like mine helping to boost ticket sales, ahem!). The audiences have always been steady for us and thankfully they love buying merchandise far more than the average pub punter
20. To echo rOB's comments I use the 210 set up & it is never an issue. I've played live without PA support in small to medium sized pubs with no issues. However usually I go through a PA anyway. I play with fingers on flats so turn up a bit more but with a pick the volume really holds its own
