What % of gigs should band members be available for?
Cat Burrito replied to Gypsyfolk's topic in General Discussion
In my old band where we stayed together for ten years, our drummer had a difficult year early on where we supported him. It was work commitments rather than personal issues but we used deps and I think he managed about 30% of our shows. It got much, much better and he wasn't a problem after that. I don't think there is a number that can be put on a percentage. If someone making 90% of gigs is a problem, it is a problem for that band. Equally if someone is only making 20% of shows but you can manage it, no dramas. -
Just going through my spares drawer and I have a couple of Fender bridges. One is off of my USA Jazz and the other off a Fender P (but I can't for the life of me remember which one). Both in very good condition and I can't tell the difference so standard sizing. £10 each including UK delivery. I also have one of those ashtray covers, again in very good condition. £15 with UK postage included.

Martin bought my Tech 21 Sansamp VT bass pedal. Decent and friendly comms so I absolutely echo the sentiment already left on this thread. Trade with confidence.

Pete bought an EHX pedal from me. Polite, quick and responsive friendly comms. No hesitancy in recommending him as one of Basschat's good guys.

Fun Thread , Have You Ever Been Asked For Your Autograph ?
Cat Burrito replied to Bluewine's topic in General Discussion
It happens quite a lot on tour around the merch tables. Posing for selfies too. I don't think it happened until my mid 30s but i would say I get asked dozens of times every year for the last 12yrs or so. I'm realistic in that it doesn't mean anything. I have no delusions. The funniest thing I remember was a few years ago at a festival gig, I was with my old singer and a girl came up and asked him to sign one of our LPs. He did and without thinking he then handed it to me. I'd played on it too and was one of the main band members. I signed it and handed it back to her. She looked at it and said, "Oh, you've signed it too!" She was okay about it (I think she just came across badly) but it was pretty funny and teaches you to stay humble. Thankfully everyone else who's asked for an autograph has always chased me around venues and festivals with sharpies. People are funny about musicians. We're just people with the same boring lives as everybody else. -
I've flown mainland Europe gig with basses and the cheapest way to do it is to buy a seat for your bass. This is what Ryan Air encourage. I did it for a show in Ibiza last year and I have done it for Norway and a wider / longer European tour. I'd worry that with a bass in bits, you might get issues in customs. Refer to Ryan Air's website for advice if that is who you are flying with. I am back out in Ibiza in May and will no doubt do the same again.

I had this pedalboard made for me about 5 years ago and it's mostly been in storage, although I have been using it for a few gigs recently. Definitely eye catching and you can see it comfortably fits 5 nano pedals so great if you just have a tuner and a couple of other pedals. It's in pretty decent condition. The pictured pedals aren't included but are for sale elsewhere on this forum (listed in Effects for sale). The catches all work and the rubber feet are solid. It's in good well looked after condition as is all my kit. The price is for collection. I'd post for an additional £12 UK mainland postage as it's quite a big solid package. Check my feedback and know that you can trade with confidence.

Offered for sale is my Ampeg BA108 Practice Amp that I have owned from new. I love this amp as it has an input for MP3s so great for practice and you can manually adjust the volume. You can tilt it and there is also a headphone socket. Tonally it is very decent and I even had a Roqsolid cover made for it. It's in very decent condition and I even have the paper / card bit that was there when I bought it. I've used it in small band rehearsals and it held it's own. I can't justify posting this one but collection from Newbury - Swindon area is an option. Check my feedback to see you can buy with confidence.

Offered for sale is my Tech 21 Sansamp VT Bass Pedal - if you know, you know how great these are. Ideal for an Ampeg sound in the studio or as part of a pedal board. It's a great pedal with lots of tonal options - from B15 fliptop to full SVT rig. I've recorded several albums with this one. You can see I still have the tin box and some of the paperwork too. I think I have competitively priced this, having had a look around online. This includes postage and packing to any UK mainland address. Please note the underside is velcro as this was attached to a pedalboard. Generally in pretty decent condition and full working order. Check my feedback to see you can buy with confidence.

Complete with the box and the blurb that comes with it. This works on the simple premise that the pure signal is boosted when engaged, so no extra distortion or overdrive to colour the sound. Great if you just need to be a bit louder for a section of a song. Price includes UK postage and packing. These seem to be going for about £35 second hand so priced to sell. Please note the underside is velcro as this was attached to a pedalboard. Generally in pretty decent condition and full working order. Check my feedback to see you can buy with confidence.

Everyone knocks Swindon but Old Town is great. Best avoid the bottom of town though, that's proper banjo country!

Dave bought my Ampeg PF-50t. Trouble free transaction and a jolly nice chap too. Trade with confidence.

CJPJ (Christian) bought my Burns Bass VI. We sat and had a coffee together, chatting about bass and this forum. Thoroughly decent chap. I said "I'll try and do your feedback later as I am always running around" and here I am inside an hour - clearly not as busy as I make out! Trade with confidence, Christian is up there with the best of Basschat!

I can only add to the four pages of glowing feedback here by saying that @Mickeyboro bought a book from me with quick payment, effortless comms and a general air of Basschat smoothness that I tend to find when I trade on here.

Comparatively the North is a lot cheaper. The South East is horrific but the North is starting to catch up. My Mum grew up in the Newcastle area and I bought my first instrument there, purely because it was so much cheaper up there than down here. I have played it a few times in recent years and absolutely love it. Trillians and Think Tank are the venues i have played and the hotels are always the cheapest on tour. They are also home to "Greggs" which is staple "on tour" food. In terms of it being violent, yeah, a few idiots will fight but that is no different to any UK town. Generally that is not the circles I move in and I have always been blown away by how friendly the North East is. Lots of beautiful places to visit nearby too. I do think as an outsider you may struggle with the accent. I am used to it because of my mother and her family but I toured with both an American and a European band who struggled at times.

I did touch upon this in the original post but appreciate it looks a bit lost with all the text, photos and videos. So with a bit more detail, I don't have a hard case so I won't be able to get insurance. However, if someone was up for getting it shipped with the neck off, I'd be happy to consider a UK only sale for an extra £25. That wouldn't quite cover my packaging and postage costs but that's the lowest I would consider, should anyone wish to do so. -
The amp I thought I would never sell. Bought from new when they came out and very well looked after. It was serviced professionally prior to going into storage and has sat under my stairs in a gig bag since 2019. When I bought it I was active on the Americana scene and playing in a CCR tribute so the tone was perfect. Don't be fooled by the 50 watts either, the CCR band had THE loudest drummer and THE loudest guitarist I have ever worked with (& I played in a lot of punk bands in my teens and 20s) and it always held up. On a Basschat tip-off there was a drum pedal bag that fitted this perfectly that I customised with Ampeg patches. This really is a cool slice of modern retro. Going new between £800 - £1000 (& usually closer to the £1k mark), this is priced to sell. The official spec is; General The Ampeg PF-50T is a thoroughbred tube amp for demanding bass guitarists. Equipped with two X7 preamp tubes as well as one 12AU7 and two 6L6 power amp tubes, this portable bass amp delivers 50 watts of pure bass power at 4 or 8 ohms. Bass, mid and treble knobs give you control over your core sound, and the centre point of the mid range frequency can be adjusted in five steps. A simple push of a button provides you with an ultra low or high boost, and an input gain control is also at your disposal. Ampeg PF-50T: a studio-grade tone With the PF-50T, Ampeg has issued an all-tube bass amp that meets all the demands an advanced bassist could possibly have. To ensure optimal diversity, the bass head has a preamp balanced line out (DI) with Pre/Post EQ, and a transformer balanced line out, with a ground lift option, of course. Adjustable bias control allows you to replace the tubes. Remarkably, this all-tube bass beast weighs only 8.8 kilos. Its sound, meanwhile, is everything you'd expect from an Ampeg Portaflex: rich in harmony and worthy of a place in the studio. I am between Newbury and Swindon a lot, occasionally rehearse Bristol way and am happy to look at meet ups via DM if it isn't too far out the way for me. Or come and try it here. Thanks for looking.
