1. I've never played a Club bass but you may find an answer here http://www.hofner.co.uk/index.php It's very Hofner sounding & there is a lot of tonal variation across the available settings. I don't think you'd be disappointed. It surpassed my expectations. I don't normally play with a pick but it sounds very 60s with a pick
2. Hofner are supposed to be doing a case which is due March '11...so it'll come at some point I'm sure. I'll hang on, I have an acoustic bass case it fits in for now. I strung with Rotosound normal flats. As you say with the tailpiece being so far back it wasn't an issue. I've never played an Epiphone Rivoli but had I not bought this I'd have been interested in trying with a view to buying
3.
It's got to be Moulty Moulton of The Barbarians! None of that triggered rubbish.
Beat me to it!!!
4.
Not seen the article yet but brave of BGM not to put a Fender in the number 1 spot!
I think they just wanted to avoid the obvious (Jazz was 2nd though & Precision 4th or 5th). I can't say I was surprised.
5. Pleased to hear it's going well & sounding good Gary.
6. I used it twice & thought it was great. I can't say I'm surprised as all good things come to an end & at least it stops me using it again. At 38yrs old & having played since 15yrs old I don't think applicants like me embodied the true spirit of the scheme. A shame though
7. 18 months to get a first reply!?! That has to be a record. I've aways felt the Epi EB series would be good fun for modding
8. I'm still trying to work out why I'd want to clean my strings!
9.
Yup it does. This is the one listed on the website
Yep, they need to update the site then. It's the next issue now already.
Why would you compile a list of the top 65 basses you should play? Is that actually compelling reading?
It's not. It's a light hearted bit of fun, no different from your typical Basschat thread.
10. I regularly set up & service my basses so haven't taken a spare for years. If I had a roadie I would but normally we try and cut down on space travelling to gigs so everything is downsized. The last time something went wrong was about 1997 so I'm quietly confident that it's more hassle than it's worth.
11. We've had a few threads on this and bass players seem to be a good point of call for spares. I even carry capos and plectrums in mine for other band members. Mine has a folding "Guitool" with all the screwdrivers etc, a towel, a stand, spare leads & instrument cables, fuses, straps, strings and a bit of band merch.
12. Mainly rotating a small collection of Fenders but I only take one out at a time. So yes & no from me
13.
You've actually got a subscription copy before I got mine from the local shop? That hasn't happened for a while.
Must be a pilot scheme! Normal business will resume next month...or possibly the month after
14. I received mine today. Nice to see so many great basses in there though - I figured the Ampeg AUB1 would make it but also the Burns Bison and Gretsch feature. I'm sure the order will have everyone arguing forever and a day! Away from the 65, that Hagstrom Viking looks a bit good
15. Hi Jake - Going through a marriage break up here too so I hear what you are saying. Basschat is a great place so welcome aboard
16. Welcome. There are a fair few Berkshire bassists on here
17. I'd go steady if you are having to ask. My wife was always really supportive but after 17yrs together & countless bands I'm now single. Most of my ex band mates are divorced too. Pick just one group if it's difficult at home. Not my words, any marriage guidance councillor will tell you that! Obviously if you are not so into the relationship, bring it on!
18. I think there is a lot these days about deaths & anniversaries of those deaths so I'm surprised this one slipped by. I think it's fair to say the legacy lives on though
