1. Welcome Dean
2. All I can say reading this thread is... Welcome to my world!
3. Welcome to Basschat Briggy
4. Welcome Paul
5. Thanks for coming down
Was very surprised, though, to see you playing a P bass
Yeah, I like to mix it up a bit!
6. Welcome Graham. Bass looks cool on the link
7. There are a few threads around this subject. Personally I use Musicguard but have never made a claim. I can spread payments via monthly direct debit which helps though
8.
They don't stay in tune on a guitar so god knows what they're like on a bass!
They do if the guitar is well set up. But I agree with the problems re bass
9. My preference is stage left too, snare side of the drummer. We usually keep this position but it's not a problem if it's a kit share gig & the headliners do differently. Obviously if I was playing against Man Utd I'd probably favour a 4 4 2 position
10. Welcome Adding to Bilbo's silliness we had a family holiday from Hell in Norwich back in 1988. I remember it because I was the one who spoilt it! edited for my poor spelling
11. Always good to have a formal introduction, welcome
12. Welcome Faye
13. I'd have listed it For Sale instead of just Musical Instrument
14. I have a Resonator acoustic bass that I've used at a couple of acoustic shows It's strung with flats as it sounded dreadful with roundwounds quite frankly. I can't help but feel the acoustic bass looks very 1993 / MTV Unplugged and to be honest you are better with a traditional electric bass if you aren't playing an upright. The Reso looks great but it's just a pose really. I only take it if I think the upright is going to a problem on the train or can't face carting it about. Considering you always plug them in you really would be better off sticking with what you have.
15. Awesome, but shame it's not going to be ready... I could have broken it in for ya!
16.
Do you know your onstage times Tim? I might need to take a drive that evening out of London after your set (to pick up a bass )
At the moment it looks like we're on at 8.30pm sharp (I originally thought we were headlining) & off by 9.15pm. I can't believe you are getting a new bass?!
17. I've played a couple of Stagg ones and the quality is right up there. I've only played a couple of other brands - both a lot more than the Stagg but neither played as well.
18. Wouldn't it be amazing if this subject had never come up!? I will buck the trend here and say the tonal difference is so minimal... we're talking different shades of the same colour. I can play the two fingerboards and hear the difference but personally (& I appreciate there must be breeds of dog that will say otherwise) I can't tell what the fretboard is when I listen to a recording! I used to favour maple exclusively, I then had a rosewood kick. Then I bought an Ebony board... now I've learnt that each & every bass has it's plus points. It's no longer the deal clencher it used to be
19. I must confess it's the kind of question that will get you loads of different answers. So sticking my oar in, Flats are more old school tone compared to the brighter sound of roundwounds. If you like older music or play fretless they are definitely worth trying. I wish I'd taken the plunge about 10yrs before I did! I know it's been said before but...
just wondering what the main difference is between the flat wound strings to the normal strings
Flats are the norm in my World too!
20. I've had my (MIJ) one since 1989, they are just great. I played a couple of the MIM ones & they've kept the quality control up high. This is a real steal of a bargain for someone
21. Looking at the first picture I thought funky might refer to the smell!?!
22.
Is that one of the isobaric cabs? What's it like?
I'm happy which is why I downsized. 600w so louder than the OBC115 by 100w. It holds it's own & all the guys in my band talk about it so it's achieved it's aims for me. Heavier than it looks because of the speaker configuration but as you can see I've flight cased mine and I'm managing just fine
23. Welcome to Basschat It is an amazing forum as you say & does take a few days to get your head around all that is going on here
