I have a Guitool with all the allen keys, string cutters etc. I also have a towel, a stand, postcards (with song prompts written on them), spare leads, spare strings, picks (not that I use them) and a capo (ditto - makes more sense if you know Adam from my band!)
2. I like bands to look the part personally and you can always get changed at the venue! A few years ago I did a country show and was too embarassed to stop at the local cashpoint as I looked like Colt Severs! Ultimately you should only wear stuff you are comfortable in or you will look silly. My band has 2 members who tend to dress fairly normally and 3 posers - of which I am one! We tend to dress "rock n roll" anyway which as the only member not yet in his 40s we're probably old enough to ought to know better
3. I do rather feel a lot of money can be spent trying to replicate a sound that can only really be gotten from the product you are trying to sound like. I'm sure there are Ampeg-esque tones with lots of pedals and other makes but for a real Ampeg tone you do really need Ampeg. And I don't wish this to sound like an Ampeg Elitist post, the same applies if trying to get a Vox tone or a Fender tone etc. That said I too have heard good things about TC RH450/Classic tones. I guess it depends on how good your ear is and how much you are willing to compromise.
4. D'oh! Gutted. At least he knows you could be up for it should things change in the future
5. Pleased to hear it went well. I think the advice here is pretty much bang on and was what I was thinking when I clicked the link. If your relaxed but keen, enjoy it and keep it fairly simple you've won at least 90% of the battle. Well done
6. It saddens me to say I know them all...must get another hobby!
7. It does look the biz
8.
Does house insurance cover the stuff if it's at a paid gig? Perhaps it would be best to get musicians insurance?
No, not normally. It's worth looking into
9. Sorry to hear this & wise words indeed. I have my own policy for my kit.
10. I think these have been out a while
11. I now have a ticket for Saturday. In the interests of being recognised I will be wearing a lemon lounge suit, paisley shirt and beatle boots, carrying a tangerine umbrella and playing with a yo-yo in a slightly menacing fashion. Failing that I might just wear my Basschat tshirt. Decisions, decisions...
12. Thanks. I own the bass, thought I might be able to help but sadly I can't Good luck
13. Very nice
14. Sorry, what is CAD?
15. He also has this which could be a better buy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1966-Vintage-Fender-...=item3f07a90687
16.
Got to remember that most of those binned were binned before the existence of the Interweb or E-bay and together these have sent the knowledge of and the price of old instruments through the roof.
A good point. When I first got into ashtray covers on Precision basses I sent a cheque via Airmail to the USA and waited 4-6wks for delivery. That was only 15yrs ago.
17. I quite like the tone in the soundclip having downloaded & listened. More importantly it's great if you find just how you want to sound. I'm sure if I posted my tone at least 75% of you would hate it & think I was stuck in the Stone Age. At least 10% of you wouldwant to marry me though
18. I read his comments more as he doesn't have the confidence to tweak the truss rod & not that it was faulty
19. I tend to flightcase my stuff. It does increase the value & interest but never to the value of the investment. I think you price yours fairly too
20. I thought MIM too.
21. Welcome Paul from just down the A34 in Berkshire! A very Sunburst-y cool avatar you have going on there. Gotta love those vintage Fenders!
22.
Sounds good - nice to see someone with a positive attitude to an audition, by suggesting songs that they think will work for the band.
I'd keep an open mind until you meet him. Lozz may well be right here but the initial thought is that he is going to be a bit of a control freak. Watch this space I guess!?
23. I spotted (& clicked on) the link only a couple of minutes ago. I'd never heard of them but the website made me feel like I'd had my head buried in the sand recently. If they do get UK distrubution here I wonder if they'll take off? Certainly look like they mean business.
24. I've been really obsessing over 60s basses and Garage / Psych bands lately so had seen this on one of my recent EBay trawls. It looks great and I'd love a Framus.
25. These have come up before and people seemed to think he was alright. He's a one man business based in Bath I believe
Just in case you didn't notice.
Sorry, I don't get it. Is that good or bad? A scale length for a 4003 bass is 84.5 cm (33 1/4'') anyway.
