Since us single-owners seem to be in the tiny minority here, can someone explain how they manage with multiple basses?
Owning half a dozen I tend to have one main gigging bass and I use the rest recording and playing around the house - usually on some sort of rota (in my head - I'm not sad enough to actually put pen to paper on this!). I admire those who do have one or two basses as I have for most of my playing career - it's only been since 2004 which coincidentally was when I discovered the original Bassworld site that the collection grew. I could always sell a couple if I had too but it's nice to have nice things and over the last 18 months I had some pretty rotten things happen so it's good to have things that cheer you up.

I wonder how legal the original sellers actions are but a great story

I like the tone here but I'll be sticking with my foam.

I think this band's problem doesn't stop at the guitarist

I only own two electric basses - a Jazz &, um, five Precisions. Hey, works for me

Basschat Awards: Gigging in the face of Adversity
Not a musical gig, but I'm nominating my father-in-law for services to door security work - he had 11 hours of chemotherapy last Friday, and put in a 10 hours shift on the doors yesterday. He's 71. They bred 'em tough in Salford in the 40s...
Christ! He has my respect. That chemo is heavy stuff. I had a one off sky high dose & it wiped me out for the month pretty much. Good luck to him -
Having a ton of bass gear really started to get on my nerves so i've been slowly downsizing.
I hear you! Me too & I've really downsized this year - over half of it is gone. There is room in my music room but that's upstairs and the point of the thread is more about my laziness carting heavy gear upstairs as opposed to being about having excess kit. At the moment the big cloth over the amp is looking favourite.

I appreciate the replies to my OP;
I tend to keep my cab in the boot of my car.
I've done that too but I keep work items in the boot normally so not an option. Plus I'd like to avoid the head going outside if possible.
My amp head was kept in a damp leaky lock-up for 18 years & still works OK. Now it's kept in the garage in an insulated case & it's fine; in this really cold weather I've brought it in, but normally it's kept in the garage.
The garage is an option for the cab & both are flightcased but it's a vintage head which needs real TLC and therefore not something I want in my old garage.
Live in the House of Bass.
In my mind, I already do!
I'm 34 yrs old and still keep our band's entire PA system, lighting rig and my bass cab in my parents garage which has been part converted so is warm, dry and secure. I get the feeling I'm pushing it a bit tho as they've recently started talking about moving away from the area.
A former singer I worked with did this too. My parents are thirty miles away so sadly not really an option for me
We sometimes get involved with creative storage solutions, but its difficult to comment without seeing the area and equipment in question
It's really just a cab and a head - everything else is fine. Ignoring the bass, I've attached a photo of the offending gear

A lot of Roland DB700's show up here around the £250 mark. They were £700 when they first came out & are really good bits of kit

Recently I've been learning some Beatles lines but last night I was messing around with the Pink Panther and the Star Wars Cantina Band theme

His tone changed a fair bit over the years so I wondered if the OP perhaps referred to any particular era? I was never a "big" fan personally but he did have my respect and was a cool looking cat in the 60s
And a new bass.
There are a few of us with a lot of gear and a lot of us with a fair bit more kit than me. I have a music room in the house but I'm struggling with where to store a flightcased head and cab. The music room is upstairs which is fine for carting basses up and downstairs at 2am after shows but the subject of my cab / head came up at home this week. Apparently putting the cab under the breakfast bar and just leaving the head on the side in the kitchen lacks a long term solution! I wondered if others had the same problem? I was thinking of disguising the cab / head by throwing a cloth over them and having an occasional table. How do others get around extra kit that is too bulky to cart around the house? I don't really want to be storing a vintage tube amp in the garage.

Basschat Awards: Gigging in the face of Adversity

Rivalling Mr. Fudge, I gigged during my cancer treatment and chemo last year. In fact I dragged my upright bass up to London for a couple of those shows which was no mean feat. Silly bugger that I am. -
God, the Old Angel! I drunkenly fell off that stage in December 1994 trying to adjust a mic stand... Happy days! Welcome to the forum

I have an S9 serial number Fender P & they are a nightmare to date. I managed to get my neck confirmed as 1979 but the pots were 1980. Who knows with the body!? It'll be late 78 at the earliest and 1981 at the latest. A very clean example in the linked thread btw
