1. Being a Jazz fan who has always struggled with the neck profile, I'm loving my new (to me - 1976) Jazz with the Precision neck. I'll be interested to see if it gives my usual arsenal of Precisions a run for their money in 2011
2. Thanks guys. We've paid for the glass master etc & luckily it's the bands 4th release so we have some knowledge around this. Digipack is expensive but probably worth it. The company who quoted us are the ones we normally use and certainly we're happy to wait until the New Year. Just trying to get feelers for when we spring into action. Cheers
3. We're putting out our next album in the new year. It's going to need an 8 page booklet & digipack is favourite at the moment. I know that format is far from the cheapest option but so far I've been quoted; 1000 cds with digi- pack and 8 page booklet £949+vat 1000 cds with jewel case and 8 page booklet £609+vat Can anyone recommend a decent company who aren't too expensive? I reckon I could shave at least a couple of hundred off that first price, especially in the current market.
4. New techniques should be practiced little & often to build up the new style. And I agree don't play through the pain
5. It amazes me that I believe every band I have been in during the last decade had contained members that have been found online. I think the trick is not to rely on one site but just get yourselves out on as many sites as possible. Just remember to take the listings down when the position if full. Oh & I've used all the sites mentioned. Ranges from sniffs of interest through to making friends for life
6. Welcome & good luck in your search for likeminded bandmates. Like you, I prefer music from before I was born & when I was very young so I agree it can be harder sometimes finding likeminded musicians. I don't think age is as big a deal to most these days. I think I've been the baby of my last few bands though. I'm 37 now and found age got less important once I was over 25 (sounds like I'm saying you are getting old! ). Anyhow, best of luck
7. Ease them in gently http://www.punkrockbaby.com/
8. Being a flats player I usually have to change strings anyway but if I did buy with flats already on it I could certainly live with it
9. Works for me. I missed out on a 70s Dimarzio pickup recently on EBay... I wasn't pipped by you was I?
10.
I think that is a 1977 neck you got there, IRC they changed the lettering in early 77 from the heavier font used previously.
Oh OK, thanks for that. It's never an exact science dating these things
11. Sounds like it just needs setting up a bit better. Could be the trussrod but personally I'd give it a pro set up and pay £30 for it (or whatever you pay at your local shop). Changing strings can often be a time when the bass needs a tweak. Not a problem. If you know what you are doing with the trussrod, go for it. Might also benefit from the nut being checked and the saddles too.

13. From Rick Danko to Paul McCartney there have been some amazing bassists who happen to sing well too. I have done backing in the past but my voice is a passable 3rd harmony at best. In my current band we have 3 lead singers with one of them being the main singer. So I just concentrate on the bass. I find singing and playing fairly easy but singing is definitely more of a struggle for me. Quite rightly I set high standards as bad vocals can really ruin an otherwise great band
14. Still got these if you'd all care to form an orderly queue!? Immaculate / unused condition btw
15. Turbo Jazz or Tricked out Jazz are the phrases that sprung to my mind when playing the MIJ Fender ones. Very well made and I echo Paul's comments. I've said it before but I reckon it is a future classic
16. We do like pictures Jak Welcome. I'm sure you'll find a lot of trading opportunities here
17. I've had this with a friend and sometimes venues don't do it directly, expecting you to get involved. They have one off deals from about £30 online if you google one off Public Liability Insurance. Personally I have it through my gear insurance but if I didn't this is what I would use
18. You're a braver man than me. I grudge carrying gear to & from the car in this weather! Good luck
19.
And I'm still loving it thanks. She's wearing black nylons now and looking even more gorgeous.
20.
Kind of started a new band on Saturday, formed on Saturday morning had a gig Saturday night. 21.
Random fact. I work with a woman who was one of the kids that sang on that. Needless to say the stick she gets when it comes on the radio each Xmas gets her slightly narked!
I met one of St Winifreds School Choir (google it kids!). And my old drummer used to go on about having had a picture in the Gallery on Take Hart. Sadly it turned out it was a lie!
22. Having used both Trubass and Orange Terror I've been really happy with my tone. You have two options really, brands aside. Some pups are more traditional tones / vintage vibes and some are designed to give things a bit more omph! From what you are saying I'd lean towards the vintage vibe rather than something beefed up. Chances are the pickups in your bass are just a bit lacklustre. I use Wizard and Seymour Duncan - I'd recommend either as an improvement on stock pups. With Wizard you can phone the guy to discuss your tone and he is really helpful. Just be careful if going down the hotter pickup route that you may lose what you like about your tone. These are more popular sales wise but personally I swear by the vintage spec pups and my sound is always where I want it to be, even when using a cheaper venue rig.
23. I had one but sold it on to tarcher here on Basschat last year Love your cat shot too... I think I sold mine because it clashed with my cat! I'm all for colour co-ordinating instruments with pets
24.
An Agathis body? sounds like an elderly crime author! I thought basswood was the choice for the lower end market these days??
Not so much these days, agathis seems to be the budget wood of choice on a few newer models these days
25.
Really well-made bass which plays great too. I got one through my endorsement & when I've got around to upgrading the pickups to EMGS it'll sound awesome
I remember reading you had one given to you. I remember Gene playing this in the 80s but I'd be fired from my band if I showed up with it!
