1. I think your rig will be fine. I use a flatwound strung Precision with foam under the bridge which although not used for reggae is ideal for that sound. Really thumpy.
2. Good effort and I love the "Squid"logo
3. As is often the Basschat way I've sold a lot off and bought a couple of new (to me at least!) basses so I thought I'd re-do my old Hot Burrito thread to show where I am at and more importantly to just show it all off! First up (from left to right) Up front is a bitsa Fender Precision that is mainly 70s / 80s parts and has been my main gigging bass this year. Behind that... a 1957RI MIJ tobacco sunburst Fender Precision that I have recoverted into a 62RI. This is a 1989 model that has been with me since I started gigging. Then behind that is a 1976 Jazz bass with a Fender Precision neck which sorts my issue with narrow necks on Jazzes not being to my taste. To it's right is a stripped down 1979 Fender Precision that I stripped myself (ditto the bitsa bass) Then it's my brush with the modern world, a 2009 51RI Fender Precision and finally my all original 1978 mocha brown Fender Precision. I even have the original strings! Not on it though!! All are regularly set up and serviced so despite the age of a lot of this these play great. I'm a bit of a one trick pony and these are all heavy flatwound strings with foam under the bridges of all the Precisions. This is my upright bass. No real story here. It's relatively new and I enjoy playing it. My Dobro bass is a £120 EBay purchase that came from Houston TX but I suspect originates from the Bluegrass Republic of China! My main gigging rig for the bigger shows. It's a 1978 Bassman head with an old Ampeg 15E cab. Both are now flightcased. For the smaller gigs my yet to be road tested Orange rig. I suspect this will be heavily used in 2011.
4.
Is it a 50s Precision bass like this, because if it is, I would agree! http://guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_det...=06112213062018 Really superb basses and if you stick some flats on, it'll rock the sh!t out of EVERYTHING!
Still got my 50s RI from the late 80s & I did indeed stick flats on it too The one bass I haven't sold on
5. The threads a couple of weeks early for me but I'll be back
6. These came out around the late 90s. A certain quirky charm
7. I used a slither of matchstick on my bass (no glue) back in 1994 and it's still going strong today
8. You'll need to rip the S1 switching out. I had it on a 2006 P-bass, didn't like it & changed to a Wizard pup. Just needs a new knob & pot for the volume. Those Antiquity pups are very nice btw
9. Good effort. And off topic, love the amp too
10. It's also worth mentioning the neck profiles of Rickenbackers range dramatically. My old one was like a baseball bat but there are ones from the same era that are like Jazzes.
11. I swapped them about before, never been an issue
12.
I haven't clicked the link but my only Gene Simmons fantasy involves a gun.
presumably not a sunburst gun?
13. Paul McCartney is very talented though

15. Hope you don't mind if I embed the original clip? I love the Supremes. Very much of it's era that clip with the band all bunched up together to fill the shot. Mary Wilson is playing locally to me in a couple of months and I am sorely tempted.
16. We'd stopped for the year as we're not really a Xmas functions band and like to have the month off for people's various work & family commitments. However last night saw the singer and I head down the local open mic night that is run by our mandolin / banjo player. We opened with a tune off the last record and it was a disaster. The hall was half empty, I was the only one in tune and Pete (singer) broke a string. He quickly restrung and broke the string again. So we sat back down for a while. However we decided to play all the outtakes from the new album when we got back up. So after a couple of pints each we got up and did a really laid back stripped version of our heaviest song "Dragging the River" which I thought sounded superb and more than redeemed the opener. Then we all lept off the stage and came and stood in the middle of the audience to play my favourite "Don't Ever Hold My Hand". I'd be surprised if my acoustic dobro bass was heard by anyone other than me but it was an almost magical moment. One of those I wasn't expecting this to be any good situations. Of course without any mics it really drew the audience in. We finished up the night back on the stage with an accordian player performing The Felice Brothers "Whiskey in My Whiskey". And then we went off drinking.... Merry Xmas!
17. As is so often the case, this is a recent acquisition for me that is staying within the Basschat family. Fluffo had this for sale. I love Jazz basses, I love beat up mojo instruments and I struggle with the thin Jazz necks, preferring a Precision profile. So this ticked all the boxes for me & I struggle to think of another Basschat member who this would have been screaming out to have been bought by. It's an Ebony 1976 Fender Precision Fretless neck that has since been fretted (good job too!), old 70s cream Dimarzio pickups and an old 70s body (almost certainly not proper Fender & more likely some old Japcrap). I added the heavy flats and pickup covers to give it my own stamp. Enjoy...
