1. I appreciate the replies to my OP;
I tend to keep my cab in the boot of my car.
I've done that too but I keep work items in the boot normally so not an option. Plus I'd like to avoid the head going outside if possible.
My amp head was kept in a damp leaky lock-up for 18 years & still works OK. Now it's kept in the garage in an insulated case & it's fine; in this really cold weather I've brought it in, but normally it's kept in the garage.
The garage is an option for the cab & both are flightcased but it's a vintage head which needs real TLC and therefore not something I want in my old garage.
Live in the House of Bass.
In my mind, I already do!
I'm 34 yrs old and still keep our band's entire PA system, lighting rig and my bass cab in my parents garage which has been part converted so is warm, dry and secure. I get the feeling I'm pushing it a bit tho as they've recently started talking about moving away from the area.
A former singer I worked with did this too. My parents are thirty miles away so sadly not really an option for me
We sometimes get involved with creative storage solutions, but its difficult to comment without seeing the area and equipment in question
It's really just a cab and a head - everything else is fine. Ignoring the bass, I've attached a photo of the offending gear
2. A lot of Roland DB700's show up here around the £250 mark. They were £700 when they first came out & are really good bits of kit
3. Recently I've been learning some Beatles lines but last night I was messing around with the Pink Panther and the Star Wars Cantina Band theme
4.
It was all going well until I saw the close up of the headstock holes....
I was thinking the same
5. His tone changed a fair bit over the years so I wondered if the OP perhaps referred to any particular era? I was never a "big" fan personally but he did have my respect and was a cool looking cat in the 60s
And a new bass.
6. There are a few of us with a lot of gear and a lot of us with a fair bit more kit than me. I have a music room in the house but I'm struggling with where to store a flightcased head and cab. The music room is upstairs which is fine for carting basses up and downstairs at 2am after shows but the subject of my cab / head came up at home this week. Apparently putting the cab under the breakfast bar and just leaving the head on the side in the kitchen lacks a long term solution! I wondered if others had the same problem? I was thinking of disguising the cab / head by throwing a cloth over them and having an occasional table. How do others get around extra kit that is too bulky to cart around the house? I don't really want to be storing a vintage tube amp in the garage.
7. Rivalling Mr. Fudge, I gigged during my cancer treatment and chemo last year. In fact I dragged my upright bass up to London for a couple of those shows which was no mean feat. Silly bugger that I am.
8. God, the Old Angel! I drunkenly fell off that stage in December 1994 trying to adjust a mic stand... Happy days! Welcome to the forum
9. Welcome to the forum Chopper
10.
I traded the MM3 for a fine amplifier today, thanks to all of you who showed an interest.
Pleased to hear it Cathal. You'll be able to enjoy your new Precision properly now!
11. I have an S9 serial number Fender P & they are a nightmare to date. I managed to get my neck confirmed as 1979 but the pots were 1980. Who knows with the body!? It'll be late 78 at the earliest and 1981 at the latest. A very clean example in the linked thread btw
12. Flats for me but as already been said, it depends what sound you are after
13.
Matamp gt200, Travis Bean 200, pedalboard with brackets not velcro and custom patch cables and orange 1x15 and 4x10 with fender platinum cables and nsp orange flightcases.
Very cool
14. Fleetwood Mac & Janis would be my choices. I just discovered a girl called Grace Potter who deserves to be huge but is probably a bit too obscure right now
15. I have a twin guitar bag & it weighs a tonne! I wouldn't even entertain a double bass bag. Nice theory but in reality they are bulky & unweildly. You are better off with two single bags (mine was from Thomann btw)
16. Great photo, I have a 78 Precision myself. And don't worry about too much detail, this is the thread for you to share it! Welcome
17. God I love this site! Sorted now & in just 5 mins, thanks to bumnote
18. I know a few of you use www.soundslive.co.uk & I too subscribe to the newsletter they periodically email out. They recently sent out a bunch of discount codes & I successfully saved a fair bit on some Orange bass gear. I've since deleted the emails but a friend wanted to get some Vox gear & they had a 10% discount code for use at the checkout. Does anyone have the email / code they could share? They had different codes for Orange, Roland etc & it is just the Vox one I want. Cheers in anticipation...
19. I only really tout myself around a small circle of musician friends and all know I do both. When I initially branched out to include the upright there was a LOT of interest but things have settled down a bit more now. My current band has me doing both & the first 3 months of 2011 didn't see me touch a bass guitar but for no real reason since then I've only managed one gig on the upright since. We've just cut an album that is very much a rock record & all the upright tunes got cut from the final listing. However there is already talk about the next one being much more acoustic so I can see things going full circle.
20. Last time I felt like that I took a 4 1/2yr break & came back feeling much more positive. I've had a couple where I've not looked forward to the travel aspect but generally it is what I do so I love it
21. I'd probably do little more than just my regular practice and just have a think about the genre, maybe have a go at a couple of more obvious standards. The danger of getting too bogged down in that though is any establshed band has a few well known hits so (picking on Slade for example) learning C'mon Feel the Noise or Mama We're All Crazy Now is a bit pointless if they are then spring Gudbye T'Jane or Coz I luv You on you. However it will get you thinking about how bassists play within the genre. Also it's a jam so showing up in all the gear may have them laughing at you or certainly rolling their eyes. Having played in "image" bands a lot of players who don't live the look 24/7 will show up for rehearsals in regular gear. Good luck & have fun with it
22. I'm sorely tempted by the Ashdown Freebass but sadly I lack the discipline to not spend half the gig in the audience like too many owners of Wireless systems. Love the idea but just don't trust myself. I'm not proud!
23.
I think Carole Kaye played on the record
I was on Carol's site this week and placed an order. She emailed me to thank me and sent me some cool clips etc. Very cool of her!
24. Cool pair
25. I'm a big fan of not skimping on the cables
