2. Are you no longer happy with the Orange Terror or just looking for an alternative?
3. Welcome to the forum Kiat
4.
My worry would be that he would end up looking like a hippie.
Some days that is the look I'm going for!
5. Looks good to me. The other alternative is a brillo pad just to take the edge off a shiny substance
6.
Also - where's the best place to get them?
EBay was where I got mine. I like bass strings like gurders so these suited me. That said I'm happy with my 55-110 gauge Rotosound flats which seems to be my string of choice these days
7. I wouldn't be put off any bass I could try for myself but with the Jedson there are a fair few flagging up warnings so I wouldn't buy online. If you could try it in person you might get a rare exception but I would very much look to proceed with caution. Or hold out for what is good.
8.
Well I`ve spent stacks of money on different basses, only to realise that the very one I coveted from the first, the humble Fender Precision, is the bass for me. With all the basses I bought, I always went for a specific sound, and they were never quite there, as it was the P sound that now realise I wanted. Still, it was fun, if costly, getting there.
+1 to all of that
9. I've no idea but it might well be over priced
10. If the back of the neck is quite high gloss then you have a 60s RI which is from the MIM Classic series. If it's more a dull matt then you have a MIM Standard. The bridge looks 60s RI to me & I do know a bit about teles.
11. It's great fun. What I found is that you may have to leave the Nitromors on for longer than you'd think. It usually takes a few coats too to get it all off. And you have to post the results! My old thread may prove interesting & the pictures should give you an idea of what to expect http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=stripping+body
12. I've not owned a 5 string but if I did it'd either be a Jazz 5 or more likely a Ray 5. It's not on the cards but you never say never
13. Here are two Precisions I have stripped, both black 1970s basses I used Nitromors. You need a bit of patience but no heat gun. I did mine outside the house on the patio and on the front step of the house. I too love that undercoat BUT you won't get around keeping it. Any method will damage the undercoat so it has to come off. You'll need a stripping knife / stripping tool too and also sandpaper to tidy up afterwards. I've added a wood dye after on one bass and I use wax at the end. Very satisfying and I really bonded with the basses as I'd put the hours in. You'll enjoy it. I loved doing mine
14.
What if the best bass player to suit your band is 28 or 29, or even female? Will you turn him or her down? Just askin'
Then you don't have that quality...apparently. I've had experience being 27 but it was a long time ago now & lack that quality now. Hey ho! Delighted to see being a bassist viewed as a quality. I'm in 100% agreement there
15.
I know but at the end of the day when you bid on something on ebay you enter into a legally binding contract - whether or not it is enforceable is another thing but you shouldn't click the confirm button unless you are serious. Good on him I say. I love how she greedily demanded $100 over pay-back's big offer. Cheeky get got what she deserved.
Don't get me wrong, I completely agree. A bit of street justice
16. When it stops being fun. I've seen lots of retired people playing at Blues jams and age just isn't an issue these days. I'll keep going
17.
I think you must have a minimum of 6: 1X Fender P bass (My preference would be a 60's example) 2X Fender Jazz Bass (1X60's, 1X70's) 1X Musicman Stingray (obvs a 70's) 1X5 string fretless 1X5 string fretted (Fodera, Alembic, Ken Smith??? Happy dreams) If you had all these what gig couldn't you do?
Drummer?
18.
Since us single-owners seem to be in the tiny minority here, can someone explain how they manage with multiple basses?
Owning half a dozen I tend to have one main gigging bass and I use the rest recording and playing around the house - usually on some sort of rota (in my head - I'm not sad enough to actually put pen to paper on this!). I admire those who do have one or two basses as I have for most of my playing career - it's only been since 2004 which coincidentally was when I discovered the original Bassworld site that the collection grew. I could always sell a couple if I had too but it's nice to have nice things and over the last 18 months I had some pretty rotten things happen so it's good to have things that cheer you up.
19. I wonder how legal the original sellers actions are but a great story
20. Great looking bass, hope things work out soon
21. I like the tone here but I'll be sticking with my foam.
22. I think this band's problem doesn't stop at the guitarist
23. I only own two electric basses - a Jazz &, um, five Precisions. Hey, works for me
24. None of you like fancy looking knobs? Each to their own!
25. Hey Iain - Welcome to the forum
