1. I'd keep tabs on EBay. I got my SD Antiquity for my 51 RI for a mere £26 or £28 (I can't remember which one!). Bear in mind the Antiquity is the most expensive of SD's range. I've seen a fair few go for similar money, albeit slighty higher. If you are not in a major hurry it's worth watching EBay and advertising here too
2.
Err.... nowt.
Likewise. And then I forget stuff
3.
I have the SP210 and the Terror and it sounds great.. You can get alot of power and tone just from these two.. People are often blown away with the tone and volume. I've done pretty big stages with it as well
I ordered this cab at the weekend Can't wait!
4. Technique aside I find foam under the strings up by the bridge works for me. It may not be appropriate for everyone but I use it all the time now
5. Just from the point of my OP, this was really wondering where people sat tonally. Not particularly about who we try to sound like. The 3 bassists I listed are not my 3 favourite players necessarily or from my favourite band. It's more a case of listening to music and thinking "this sounds like me". I would hope I sound like "me" but it was more about where we are coming from. I think tone can be quite a personal thing and certainly wouldn't want to just rip off a players sound directly - unless perhaps I was playing in a tribute act for that player. To me it's a melting pot of all the influences being put in together. Equally I've enjoyed listening to players who sound absolutely nothing like me whatsoever. I'm really interested to read the differences. Was it Doddy who mentioned Jaco's sound? The first page had a few in the Motown camp (like me) but I am wondering about other sounds too. I bet we have players who sound quite synth like but nobody has mentioned that yet. Do keep 'em coming!
If I wanted everything to sound the same then I'd have bought the same bass six times over and saved the trouble
It worked for me!
6. I suspect any of the name brands would be fine. I use Kyser Klassics Dr. Stringfellow for the simple reason it's what my local shop happens to stock

Hi

Welcome to the forum. I would have seen you live at Blow Up in the late 90s as I used to know Andy Lewis & he got us in to one of your gigs. Brilliant playing & I'd love to see photos of your gear!
8. That seller has had a few gems on EBay before. I agree with Clarky re taxes but still not a bad deal
9.
I would be interested to find out what a jazz with a precision neck would feel like.
I love the look of Jazz bodies but don't get on with the neck. I have had two stages in the 90s playing Jazz basses & next week I pick up a vintage Jazz with a Precision neck. Sorted

hi

Welcome to Basschat
11. I'm not so much thinking of who you play like but wondered where people sit tonally. I heard Jaco recently and was really surprised (not knowing the genre or the man so well) just how much treble was in his tone. A lot of people rate Jamerson but use the latest gear. We must have people who want to sound Peter Hook, people who sound like Jaco and people who sound like Jamerson. Do we have synthy 80s type players? Just curious really. Personally my tone is sitting somewhere between early McCartney, James Jamerson & Duck Dunn. The playing, sadly, isn't! Over to you...
12. Welcome Veesh - I have an MIJ 89 P-Bass & am rather partial to Ampeg too
13.
May be worth contacting Wizard pickups then, lots of people really rate them on here, and apparently if you tell the guy (Andy I believe) what yr after, he`ll come up with a good recommendation.
Give him a ring, he's been really helpful with me. Failing that I too am a huge Seymour Duncan fan The SD website guides you with what tonal changes to expect
14. It's funny that MySpace was the site of choice 5yrs ago and it is so s**t now. That took 3 goes just to load for me!?! From what I could hear I liked it.
15. Tis' gone. Customary Basschat donation in thanks has been sent.
16.
your rigs always look so cool BB. Mighty preddy.
Why thank you... I do try!
17. I kind of like it Prior to clicking the link I did wonder if it was going to be a Fender Precision
18. Following the "death" of my old 90s Ampeg SVT USA head my back up rig for smaller gigs is currently looking like this;
19. I've been playing The Beatles all week and that isn't a typical McCartney bassline either. I've never heard him play so straight! I like the bass whatever it is.
20. Cathal bought my 2006 Fender Precision bass today. Easy to deal with, hassle free transaction and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
21. You must mean Bassworld? Welcome back
