+1, if you're paying, it's yours and the band's call, not the engineer's, if you're not happy with the sound, he's not doing his job. However, you'd need to talk through the pros and cons with him, don't simply say "I want it this way". He knows his gear and his room, and may have learned through years of experience that in the majority of cases, the way he's working gets the best results with bass. He may not be right in your particular case, but you'll probably need to get him on side to get the tone you want. C
I'm kind of in agreement here. Ultimately I think studio engineers tend to know their set ups and we tend to know our live sound. Obviously if he is making you sound different to how you hoped to sound then it is an issue. However I always go into the studio with an open mind and even bring in CDs of sounds I like sometimes to get the idea across. The engineer changed a few of my basses around from what I had planned last time and the overall impression is that I am happy
2. That's a great link full stop. Wyman always got a little buried in the mix and a lot of people assume that it is because he couldn't play. Wrong!
3.
And you use the pickup cover when playing closer to the bridge?
I do, although I don't tend to play there very often.
4. It's really just a case of doing your homework so you know it's period correct. Your level of knowledge sounds about where mine is and I've never been ripped off buying a 70s Fender (yet!)
5. All my Precisions have the thumb rest in the same position - see pic
6. I just sold a 2006 Ltd edition Fender Precision for £525, I'd say you shouldn't be paying over £600 and bear in mind that pickup configuaration won't be for everyone
7. I'm a bit late to the thread but I always get my copper shielding from EBay as it works out cheaper
8. I'm an hour away* in Berkshire and you're welcome if you don't get any better (closer!) offers *1hr 5mins according to AA Routeplanner
9. I have to say I've been enjoying my SP210 cab with my head. I have other cabs (Ampeg) but this sure is a neat little package
10. I assume you know a bit about what you are buying? Original parts are key and if you can get the full history it's a huge bonus. I own 70s Fenders which are all original with original strings / case / till receipt and 70s Fenders which have loads of parts replaced. All are well set up and play great but obviously a huge difference in resale value
11. Hi Ron - Welcome on board
12. Great introduction! Welcome
13.
Easy - just retune your bass to the tune and put it back when you're done...
Absolutely! A lot of these older recordings are like this, as said. A bit annoying but not the end of the world. It's only Wyman after all, I'm pretty sure there are no advanced harmonics on unusual frets
14. Mark appears to have 2 threads http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...5&hl=fluffo this being the other one. Aside a monster marathon drive to Dartford yesterday I picked up Mark's 76 Jazz Precision hybrid bass. Very cool guy to deal with, easy transaction & he was patient enough to wait for me to get paid first too Would certainly be up for a trade again. Oh & he even managed to dig out some flats in my gauge and brand as I'd said I liked them! Result.
15. Welcome to the forum A very festive sounding name you have there!
16. Welcome to Basschat. Your username is very similar to Ped who runs the site. Hopefully people won't mix you up!?!
17.
surprised this hasn't been suggested but is defintately my fave. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEo9Bh679wM
Nearly made my original post. Hope you don't mind but I'll embed this into the thread
18. My band use http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/G7th-PERFORMANCE-CAP...=item35ad269294 which is about as good as it gets. Or the Kyser one is ok too
19. I have a lift off style case on my Bassman head. Looks very very cool but the flightcase does add serious weight to what for me was already a very heavy piece of gear. Ultimately I think the choice just comes down to taste. I wouldn't bother with my Orange head but as the Bassman was vintage gear I wanted the ultimate protection.
20.
And Something:
Just worth mentioning today is 9yrs since George Harrison lost his battle with cancer. Good choice too
21.

Nice looking bass
22. Not the MU from me (which sounds like a great idea) but I insure my gear through Musicguard & I automatically get £1m free cover for public liability unsurance on top of my gear protection.
23. Not come across 7 personally but then I don't go looking for the recent kit normally. This list is spot on!
24. Just smooth off the edges. I had a crack in a headstock & subsequently kept putting my thumb on the crack. When I repaired the crack I sanded down around the crack & you can no longer feel it. Job done
25. Welcome back. I was very active in the old Bassworld days & have enjoyed the new site more having had a break. I'm sure you'll feel the same
