1.
They will - as long as you don't try and sell it until 2050...
True to a point but I think there will always be something about 20th Century instruments as it's the birth of rock 'n' roll etc
2. I LOVE my '78 Fender Precision & all I'd say is these two basses are very different animals. Ultimately it's your decision and you'll have to try both basses together. Really it's a question of retro thump vs modern active and everyone has their own opinion on what they prefer. I think it's fair to say I've nailed my colours to the mast long ago!
3. I think just failing to back stuff up is poor. When we did our last album over the summer the engineer was always backing up. We've lost whole tracks in the past and it is always annoying - especially as you then build up a picture in your mind that the lost take had some mystical quality that it almost certainly didn't really! Our engineer did "lose" a bass & drum track which he later found. We re-cut it but our singer preferred the original's feel so the engineer was made to find the tracks and line them up with what we'd recorded. I'd have been tempted to tell him to shove it but I guess he felt guilty that he'd mislaid the tracks in the first place. And good luck
4. Looks great. I suspect the seller has just had to state a price but factored insurance into the cost and is prepared to take a hit. Sellers are measured on postage cost so he isn't going to put it too high. I have to say if I had that bass for sale (aside the fact it wouldn't be for sale!) I've have taken it apart in photos to show more details. I assume they probably do all that on request.
5. Very cool, I've always wanted one
6. Could be a bitsa? The bridge is a badass and the logo / pickguard suggest a 57RI that has been stripped back to natural wood.
7. I think birth year is a factor for some players too and the people born in the 80s are going to have more income than they did in their teens. I predict a rise in the interest of 80s basses. And I say that whilst being in general agreement with most of the points above
8. I have to say that this thread makes me feel old and out of touch! Whenever I think of a new band they put their debut out in 1992 or something I do like a few modern bands but I wouldn't know the names of any of the members. Imelda May's bass player is a bit good but he's been around longer than me!
9. Don't see many of those which makes it that little bit cooler in my book
10.
Shh... you cant expect me to read entire posts! What do you think I am? Normal?!
Yep, we're all busy people!
11.
However, in a couple of those photos, the strings look like they are from 1983 too - I'd change them before selling!
If they are the original strings, keep them. Put them in the packet from the new strings and include with the sale. As you say if all original, then that's good but the condition is going to devalue a bit. The most I've seen early 80s Fender basses go for is £1095 but that was immaculate condition with original hard case and paperwork. There is no refinish or replacement parts. Early 80s aren't hitting the silly money yet so you could hold on to it for a bit and see how things are in a few years. In that condition I think you'd be looking at a top end figure of about £850 unless anyone cares to suggest otherwise. And that wouldn't be priced for a quick sale (but would sell). The interest would be there for people born in 1983 and they are at an age group where they have money to buy. Definitely more mojo'd then dog
12.
Hey Tim, thought you would be a fan of the Ampeg scroll bass, given its huge Rick Danko associations. See pic below
I am a huge fan but they rarely come up when I have the funds. I've seen the copies which are also fairly rare. It could happen for me one day
13. Playing with somebody else will really raise your game too. I think I had one or two books rather than load myself up and confuse things. If you get one with backing tracks just go from there.
14.
Nice but stupidly expensive.
I know nothing about Ampeg basses and their value but I must admit I had to double take when I saw how much it was listed for.
15.
And then we have these very pages have a wanted section. Most of us have done a number of trades or purchases

you forgot... Basschat
Er, no I didn't. I just didn't include a link
16. Not really but a few of the main sites have second hand sections; http://www.coda-music.com/index.php?cPath=170 http://www.cardiffguitars.co.uk/ForSale/sh/sh.aspx http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/preowned_guitars.asp and then you have the vintage and rare sites too. I can't help thinking if you can't find enough of EBay then I think you may struggle. And then we have these very pages have a wanted section. Most of us have done a number of trades or purchases
17.
The new customer service is brilliant IMO. A chap called Neil always deals with my emails and responds very fast!
Yep, that's the fella!
18. Welcome to the forum Cool introduction
19. Just an update. I'd emailed Orange on Friday evening just to query the bulb. They are sending me a free one out as a courtesy and the guy even chatted via email about potential cab options. Very cool service which is interesting as the googling revealed people generally weren't happy with Orange's customer service.
20. Aside a forced break from mid March to early July to work on our album's pre production (our singer / songwriter wanted that to be the sole focus) the gigs have been fantastic. From January to mid-March I didn't get off the upright & we did a few sold out Art Centre shows. Since we did the album it's been all bass guitar gigs. We have played London, Bristol, Sheffield, Manchester, York, Winchester, Newport, Bath, Reading, Bedford and a whole load of other places. We're also filling up nicely for the first half of next year. I have been really pleased with that side of life
21. James Jamerson had a high action. It doesn't bother me on a bass. If I was playing fast lead melody lines it might though
22.
My bulbs a bit dodgy, does anyone know a replacement? I sooooooo love this amp though - a lots of people are talking about the BT in the rock & metal arena but i'm getting a great phat dub tone and am also going to try it with a funk band tommorrow
I've spent two days googling and have yet to find out. If I do I'll let you know! I agree with your point. It was your comments on phat dub tone on another thread that made me finally take the plunge. The old school Americana tone I was after is basically the same as reggae (some might struggle with that concept?) & I'm happy with the tone I've got. Just a shame the bulb lasted all of 15 minutes!
