1. Presumably not the 80s TV character from Brush Strokes? Just kidding, that's really cool and always nice to get a compliment. I did an Open mic night where I played upright bass and did some mandolin later on. I was told I was "one of those clever b******ds who can turn his hand to any instrument and shine". I spent the rest of the evening explaining "No really, I'm not!"
2.
Hi Tim, How about one or both of my small, punchy and clean EA CLX110 cabs??
Marc, knowing you like I do I KNOW it'll be quality gear of yours but I like the Ampeg 2x10 cab I have as spare. If I change at all it'll just be for a matched Orange cab. You know I'm a poser at the best of times!
Gotta be worth trying the sp210/212. Tried the Terror into those in Red Dog here in Edinburgh and was seriously impressed with the depth of the sound given their tiny footprint. I just wasn't a fan of the dirty tone! Bit of a one-trick pony I felt. But I think that's more the head. Made me wonder how much the compromises of an Isobaric design can be overcome by the choice of driver, I'd be interested to know what's actually loaded into those things.
It is a one trick pony but if you like the one trick it does, you are laughing! It's the same with my Bassman head. Perfect for some, certainly not for everyone
Your back won't be a fan though - they may look small, but they are heavy!
Nothing can be heavier than my flightcased Bassman head! The Orange website has these cabs at half the weight of my Ampeg cab so it'd be a step in the right direction
i played a terror bass head through an sp410 and i was really impressed ! when i get one ill be using it with an ampeg 610 and i cant wait
The sp410 starts to get a bit pricey for me. I'd probably opt for the 210, the 212 or the non SP 115 cab they do. But I bet the 410 sounds amazing
3.
Get a van!!!!!!!!! LOL Cheers, Mick. Sorry, I'm not being much help, am I.
We do hire vans a lot but it depends on what we are getting paid and the location. Sometimes it's easier just to go by car with as much kit and as many band members in as few vehicles as possible. If we have a van I take my Fender Bassman head and the bigger cab - both flightcased too. I'm not against the idea of a 1x15 cab btw & the SP210 or SP212 are possible too. I'm talking solely Orange though as I like my existing cabs. And Mick, Rickenbacker through Marshall? An unlikely set up for the alt.country / Americana bassist that I am! That said I did use a Rickenbacker on a track on our new unreleased album. I like old school tones and although modern these Orange set ups seem to be a meeting of old & new Whatever the set up I'm using flatwound strings on a Fender bass which certainly gives my tone a fair steer in the direction I want it! Edited for schoolboy spelling!
4. Having picked up an Orange Terror Bass Head I'm really thinking about going all out with an Orange cab to match. I have my main set up which is the 70s Bassman into an Ampeg SVT 115E but was using an Ampeg SVT 150h into an Ampeg SVT 210E as a more portable alternative when the band travels to venues and space is an issue in the cars. Plan A was to keep using my 210 Ampeg cab but I do like the idea of having an Orange rig. Just wondered if anyone else was using Orange cabs with the Terror head or if not what have you settled on? Those SP cabs sound like my back would be a fan
5. And he has my bass! I didn't know Yoda played drums. Does anyone know why Jar Jar Binks won't just **** off!?!
6. A few years ago I was on another music forum where this girl Heather kept posting playing live photos of herself. A lot of the guys (mainly from the Southern States of the USA) kept posting some occasionally inappropriate comments about how hot she was. Then one day she was exposed as a transexual and left the forum because "she" was using the same username on YouTube and posted some very risque videos! It went very quiet for a while from some of the guys who'd been commenting not realising her original / actual gender.
7. Here's mine from this week Rosh. If anyone knows where and what bulb I need as mine went out within about 15mins of playing, I'd love to know. A bit of a niggle but generally a great head
8. I reckon it's a cross between the release of The Jayhawks anthology recently coupled by the fact I now own a much better stereo but recently I've been revisiting the fine simple yet melodic bass playing of Marc Perlman. I commented on him in another thread recently and Sean immediately picked up on it. Fans often focus on Gary Louris and Mark Olsen but Marc Perlman really has it going on. And I like his tone too. Any other fans out there?
9. One of the first albums I ever heard was With the Beatles. As a small boy I picked up on the harmonies. It was only later on getting older that I picked up on those great basslines like on All My Loving for example. I own all the Beatles albums but don't play them very much. I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan but I always admired them. The McCartney detractors don't seem to have sabotaged this thread in the way that most of you were worried about. When I first playing I got a book on McCartney and learnt Hey Bulldog and Daytripper etc. It's all good
10. I thought it was Silddx http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...4&hl=gloves
11. We have a thread on some special bass playing gloves... I'll try to find it
12.
Feel free to PM any mod you see online at the bottom of the board index in the future .
Will do Perhaps when my puffer jacket from a chinese site masquerading as an american ski clothing outlet doesn't show up
13.
No one puts a pint on top of my rig no matter how level it is
No one puts a pint on mine except me and only then, no one puts a FULL pint on it!
14.
Oh, don't tell me I missed the really good p0rn again?
I didn't click the links but I am reliably informed that pornography is indeed available on the internet
15. Sorted now.... a bit of excitement for me in what has otherwise been a fairly average day
16. I never spot 'em Mrs. T so wasn't sure how to proceed. Cheers
17. I had a kickback Ampeg combo and I found it hugely unstable. It was funny watching my cats jump up on it - it'd really freak them out! Ultimately though I thought it was a far better idea on paper than in reality
18. It also depends on your genre you play, line up of your band & what your drummer is like. With my drummer I know I can get away with a 100w combo without actually sounding like I'm just "getting away" with my tone but other drummers you may need a lot more. Generally the market is much better these days and there are some great deals around most of the top brands
19. Well that link works! Unfortunately it's something I know **** all about though!?! This thread isn't a great ad for image shack though
20. Your pictures aren't displaying. I've gone out & come back into this thread...it just ain't happening for me!
21.
So you got one after all Tim - am sure you`ll be happy with it, I think mine is great, really powerful, but soooo much better for all the carting about.
Yeah, your thread coupled with my 90s Ampeg exploding made me takethe plunge. It sounds nice and old school but I only want it as a back up head where I can't afford the space. A bit annoying with the bulb but I'm sure I'll live
22. By and large I agree with icastle here. Why bother with demo tapes? A link to myspace even in an email is all we use. Also allocate one person to deal with all the crap if you can. It was always me but in my current band it's the singer. He's spent 7yrs building his contacts. Again it's really about getting people to like you. Always thank the soundman and the landlord / landlady. After all you are working with them so you want to get on, right?
23.
Agreed.. Do you DI it? if you do you'll need a 40db in-lineAnnetuator as the DI is rather Hot.. It's very cheap from studiospares about £10 I love my TB
It arrived the same day! I do my Basschat research and saw the thread. Yep, studiospares too About £7 with the postage too
