1. I'm not so much thinking of who you play like but wondered where people sit tonally. I heard Jaco recently and was really surprised (not knowing the genre or the man so well) just how much treble was in his tone. A lot of people rate Jamerson but use the latest gear. We must have people who want to sound Peter Hook, people who sound like Jaco and people who sound like Jamerson. Do we have synthy 80s type players? Just curious really. Personally my tone is sitting somewhere between early McCartney, James Jamerson & Duck Dunn. The playing, sadly, isn't! Over to you...
2. Welcome Veesh - I have an MIJ 89 P-Bass & am rather partial to Ampeg too
3. Great pictures! What's the story to go with them?
4.
May be worth contacting Wizard pickups then, lots of people really rate them on here, and apparently if you tell the guy (Andy I believe) what yr after, he`ll come up with a good recommendation.
Give him a ring, he's been really helpful with me. Failing that I too am a huge Seymour Duncan fan The SD website guides you with what tonal changes to expect
5. It's funny that MySpace was the site of choice 5yrs ago and it is so s**t now. That took 3 goes just to load for me!?! From what I could hear I liked it.

9. I kind of like it Prior to clicking the link I did wonder if it was going to be a Fender Precision
10. Following the "death" of my old 90s Ampeg SVT USA head my back up rig for smaller gigs is currently looking like this;
11. I've been playing The Beatles all week and that isn't a typical McCartney bassline either. I've never heard him play so straight! I like the bass whatever it is.
12. Cathal bought my 2006 Fender Precision bass today. Easy to deal with, hassle free transaction and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
13. You must mean Bassworld? Welcome back
14. Welcome to the forum Nathan
15. I've always bought my bodies from the various sellers on EBay & done well out of it too
16.
Had one of these a couple of years ago I should not have let it go best small gig and practise too I have come across
Plus one. Awesome tone & loud as hell Good price too
17.
Well I've thought about 2nd hand and even though you get more bang for your buck there's (quoting Trent Resnar) "nothing quite like the feel of something new". So far I've narrowed it down to a few: Fender aerodyne jazz Fender highway one jazz Ibanez btb 700dx Ibanez btb 670 Ibanez srt 900dx Has anyone played any of these
I know the Fenders well. You'll get a nice bass with that budget. Just to confuse you further I'd also consider the MIM Classic and Deluxe range too as they are seriously good players. I prefer them to the HWY1 (purely my tastes, others may not agree). And they will fall within your budget
18. To be honest only you can really answer that. I wouldn't be against the idea personally but the risk is that you wind up spending more on upgrades than the original bass. It becomes the equivilant of the £400 Vauxhall Nova with £4k worth of body kit! I'd scour EBay for bits and focus on the weaker areas of the bass rather than a complete overhaul.
19.
Agree with all the above. One thing i will point out is to check the size of the PG cut out first. I say this as ive just changed the pup in my Squier CV P and the replacement pup wouldn't fit the cut out. The replacement is a Wizard (well worth going for over a Fender IMO, and cheaper) and is a standard Fender size. I had to file the cut out which although wasn't hard to do, it did involve a lot more work.
I also had to do this for a MIJ pickguard. Not a huge job or problem although initially a bit annoying. I too have a couple of Wizard pups & I like them a lot. I think it's only original USA pickguards where you don't have to file the pickguard. And I'm with Bobby K on the tone capacitor being a cheap mod. You can get them on EBay for a fiver
20. I agree with both the issues raised that 1) Ibanez are great for the money (my friend runs my local music shop & he swears by them) and 2) try them both back to back ideally with a friend. I'd also echo jezzaboy's sentiments that you have to be pretty unlucky to walk away with a dog these days.
21. double post alert!
22.
Does this count!?
With those black nylons & that pickup I bet it has a real 60s thump to it
23. Before I clicked the link I assumed it was live & not a studio recording! I'll embed the link for people if you don't mind
