1.
Just checked out the specs on the Fender web site- American Vintage = Vintage Jazz Bass® Single-Coil Road Worn = Standard Vintage Alnico Magnet Jazz Bass® Single-Coil So it appears that the RW has Mexican pups, not American, but boy do they sound good. Does anyone else find that the RW has a punchier tone than the American Standard?
Interesting. My 60th Anniversary has the AV pup so perhaps that's where I got confused
2. I think I'd describe myself as a fairly regular - heavy gigger and aside breaking a string or two back in the late 90s, I have no problem bringing just one passive Fender bass to all my gigs. For me the chances of something happening it isn't worth the hassle of carting an extra item. I just keep a load of spares just in case. I've been playing fingerstyle since 1999 so I even think my chances of breaking a string again have reduced dramactially too. If you service your bass regularly you also reduce the chances of something silly happening onstage
3. Personally I always avoid sellers with low / no feedback and few transactions. It hasn't stopped me from getting burnt before but it lessens the chances of it happening. I agree with MoonBaseAlpha here and I think you were wise to warn off other potential buyers. You must leave negative feedback if someone is being silly.
4. We don't get too many mentions of Sho-Bud Pedal Steels on this forum - nice to hear them mentioned. Welcome
5.
This is the reason I'm looking for one! Pretty unusual times for Fender and the basses will be an interesting collectors item because of that... It will also be a bass made in the year I was born (december) 1985 so that's the other main reason I'm looking
Customs charges will be about 20%. I have imported about 6 instruments now and it's not a big deal.
6. Unless I'm missing something I thought the RW Jazz used the USA 62RI pickups? Have I got that wrong?
7. Took me a moment to work that one out!
8. Welcome to the forum
9. Welcome to the forum
10. Sadowsky 5 string
11. As Neil says, it's not essential. However it's worth doing as it's quick & easy.
12. Welcome Doug
13. Not mine... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Precision-Bas...=item45f672408f ...I wish it were
14. Very much of it's era (& don't forget customs charges) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-Spe...=item2eb0e7afe6 or even more of it's era http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RARE-1985-Fender-Per...=item3a5fdc33b8 I'm getting flashbacks to my school days!
15. Is it US or Chinese made? Presumably Chinese if you bought from new 2yrs ago? Do you have pictures you can share? I know what these look like so I guess I'm referring to the condition of yours. And presumably you are looking for collection only? That's a good price.
16. I agree with warwickhunt and pantherairsoft 100%. In theory the small claims court would be on your side and if feeling immature (& I really wouldn't!) you can of course start ordering him taxis and pizzas BUT I'd just cut your losses. I order a lot from EBay and it seems that I can't go more than a couple of months without an order going wrong. Thankfully all my failed orders seem to centre around CDs and DVDs. I do feel for you here.
17. Start reading up now, learn what serial numbers were used and what to look for... and check EBay every day.
18.
You must rehearse REALLY LOUDLY then ... I've never yet got my OTB above about 12:00 at full-on pub gigs with a 5-piece classic rock band.
Lozz does play with the loudest drummer on the planet!
19. Pleased it went well Clarky
20. I'm sure I'm not the only one to think this but I still miss Bassist!
21. I've owned a few Warwick Rockcases & they were always super reliable - they were cheap too. You used to be able to buy them for £30 on Soundslive 5 or 6 years ago
22.
for what it's worth I have never sold a bass and not regretted it...
Me too. Even if you miss it you can always get a good bass further on down the line. Sell when you need the cash or the time is right
23. How did I know this would be about Musicman basses? I know loads of Fender players, me included, who view it as the last of the vintage cool club. I couldn't go any more modern than this
24. Of course Fender wouldn't be missing a trick. The beauty of the range is there is a reason to celebrate something every year! Like 12stringbassist I too have a 60th Anniversary P-bass but we must remember this is the 60th Anniversary of the Fender company and this thread is of course referring to the 60th Anniversary of the 1951 Fender Precision Bass so think chunky goodness and we're there!
25. Two amps and two heads at present; nearly always split up as follows 1978 Fender Bassman head into an old beat up Ampeg SVT USA 115E (both flight cased) Ampeg SVT USA 200w head into an Ampeg SVT USA 210E
