1. bump for Tuesday & a surprise Duke & the King support in Nottingham on Monday too
2. Never seen that either. And I'm equally baffled
3.
with regards to the richest.....It isn't me, that's for sure
I very much doubt I'll be checking any lists either
4.
I have no grades at all nor can I read music (the same for many musicians if we are still allowed to call ourselves that?) and recently spent an evening with a very fine classical player who came to a blues jam with me a couple of years ago and said he wished he could do that,I thought he was taking the piss at first but he wasnt and he got me to go and show him the basics of the 12 bar and a few simple licks to get him started. I was amazed at what he could play if it was in front of him and literally nothing without! It was like some kind of comedy sketch. You cant teach rock its not possible ,Look at cold play and all that stuff,Middle class mushy rockers cant do a full on Metallica thing,They think they can and I have played with some top notch drummers that read symbols and all sorts of stuff but when it comes to the final rock out at the end,Nothing.....its not on the page.
I played bass on a Total Guitar magazine CD (issue 10 if anyone cares) because the magazine wanted a club band type vibe rather than schooled musicians. I was hugely flattered at the time & I think we always admire players who are different to us. I have the upmost respect for people who read music etc & it amazes me on the rare occasions they tell me they like my style.
5. I had it happen a couple of times back in the late 90s, raised the issue & the parts were changed. I was amazed nobody else in the band picked up on it because we were really clashing
6. Sting is at an unfair disadvantage here with his last accountant!
The one with most money.
Yep that's the fella!
7. The GAS one is new so I'd assume it's been replaced???
8. I've always put covers up on YouTube as well as originals. Never been a problem. I've always credited who the song was originally by. Millions of bedroom players do covers and I never hear of any issues. The reality is you don't get more than a few hundred hits so if it is a breach of copyright then I think the lawyers reckon we're not worth the effort.
9. Personally flat sounding amp and buy a basspod but it depends on the studio, live room & what you hope to achieve.
10. Tapestry by Carole King does it for me. Or some CSNY
11.
Would you believe my Ricky would have been perfect for the job - sold it last week.
Isn't it always the way? Remember most of the audience will be judging the look, i.e. whether you have a Hofner, rather than the sound. He used rotosound black nylons circa Abbey Road if you want that tone? Sounds like a fun gig. I love McCartney's playing
12. In my current band it's a new experience for me. I wrote a few lyrics in the past and even came up with the odd verse or chorus structure as well as writing my own basslines. This time around its very much a case of "rhythm section know your place"! We are expected to hold back, do as we are told and never, ever mess up. I quite like the discipline of it all although I definitely want to be more involved in the future. At least I mainly get a say in my basslines. I'd add before I conjour up images of a dictatorship that our songwriter does have a good understanding of drums and bass. In the past I've worked with singers who don't notice your parts in the past and I'm enjoying things at the moment.
13. Hey Oli, welcome to the forum
14. That cab would match my 135 a treat...sadly it would defeat the point of you offering a pair! £600 is very fairly priced. Good luck with the sale
15. A wonderfully succinct introduction. Welcome edited for poor typing
16. Failing all that the text alone should be ringing alarm bells. Any doubts always walk away. I still bet that goes for more than it should, although a lot less than it would if it was real
17. When I owned one I rarely plugged it in. The plastic bowl backed ones don't tend to be as loud and the ones with bigger bodies tend to give much better tones. I agree with the general comments that I wouldn't be phased by the fact it had a pickup
18. It would be more of a shocker if he was called Jaco Pastorius. I'm sure there are a fair few Mark Kings out there
19. I saw Imelda May live earlier this year. The rhythm section depressed me - too talented! Al Gare is a seriously awesome player.
