2. I like both but the tort is an improvement
3. If you are happy it's genuine, that's a very good deal. Some of those Fenders from the 1970s are now topping £2000. Has he taken it apart and varified the parts?
4. Those old Vox standards have cropped up a couple of times in the last few days. You've come this far, you may as well take the plunge! Welcome to Basschat
5.
Found him!!!
Wow!
6. I used to own one of those Vox basses and it was great fun. You were right to put the price up, still a great deal for somebody
7. Welcome to Basschat. I'm still using my MIJ P bass too after 20yrs too
8. I'm kind of going through my anti-GAS phase at the moment and this was only bought at the start of the year, courtesy of a life insurance payout. It's great BUT I've learnt I'm really just a Fender player. It was built in January 2009 and purchased brand new for £1699 in January 2010. I gigged it once, recorded with it once (sorry the album isn't mixed yet or I'd post an MP3 sample). So it would be coming with the Rickenbacker hard case and the case candy. Currently strung with heavy La Bella flats (ala Jamerson) which gives it a slightly less conventional Ricky tone but easily rectified if not to your tastes. No knocks or dinks and the case comes with only surface scratches. It's surprisingly light, the neck plays great and the tones on offer are fantastic. From my point of view I'm really learning that I'm just a Fender player though. Ideally I'd like to trade for a 70s Fender. I own a great 78 P-bass so a Jazz would be good but a decent P-bass could be on the cards. I don't want fretless and I'd rather avoid sunburst. A tele type bass would be very cool and I prefer lighter colours BUT what you got? Despite the fees I'm not afraid of EBay so I expect as this is a long shot this'll wind up on EBay. As it's so new and in top condition (& Basschat want a price) I'd be wanting £1400 but ideally I'm after a trade and not looking to spend more money! Oh & UK only as I have to consider postage. There's a link to my feedback in all my posts and believe I am easy to deal with. I have 100% feedback on EBay across over 1000 transactions. All that said our tastes may not be the same but I am open to suggestions. If you don't know me from my threads, my tastes are strictly retro. Don't mind refins or non original parts as it can make an older bass more realistically priced but ideally as original as possible!
9.
I thought if the item was worth less than £18 you don't pay any charges?
On the current exchange $28.88 is £18.42 - a bit harsh but there you have it
10. Cheers BassBod - I'm not buying this month but that one has got to be a serious contendor. I like the price too. I don't want to colour my sound
11. He's only the best bass player on the site... had you not heard?
12.
I go against perceived wisdom...don't use eq on (electric) upright. After years of trying I found it was fine without! My general choice is Orchid Electronics active DI with mute button and tuner send - so I can kill the output when I want. A cheapish box but sounds fine.
http://www.orchid-electronics.co.uk/muting_DI_Box.htm this one? I like the idea of muting the sound for tuning
13.
i know everyfin so I can help yu. weekness for me is der Rockabilly - but still do it gut.
Just out of interest why is rockabilly harder?
14. That'd be cool, cheers. We went out to the Joshua Tree & did a Gram Parsons pilgrimmage. Very cool.
15.
They were less than $30, $28.88 to be exact.
Perhaps it's $25 or $20 then. I got stung on a tshirt recently. Did the seller list it on the package as $28.88? It's annoying on the smaller items. Most things get through & I only expect to pay on bigger items normally. I once had a $600 item get through but I don't know why or how and doubt I'll be so lucky again
16. It will be. You have the joys of a handling fee to pay too hence the price hike. Anything over $30 they can sting you
17.
So the craic is, when taking my old pickup out, make a note of where the wires were connected and wire the SD exactly the same way?
Basically, yes. Unless you really know your stuff and want to try a different way. I tried a 70s wiring recently and it ended with no sound (doh!) so I just stuck with the traditional. If you are not sure your local shop will fit it for a few quid.
18. I hadn't seen these either. I think I'm happy with my shadow pickup I have in the bridge already though.
19.
Im not sure my bass is even listed on there? It's a MIM 50's precision, only thing i can think of is it being classed as a standard precision : / http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/68234 Someone correct me?
It's the same as the American vintage. However you can wire it in many ways. The trick is to watch what you do as you take theold one out & put the new one in the same. SD do come with diagrams though. This is what you'll get http://www.seymourduncan.com/images/produc.../501030-100.pdf
20. Personally if I were to go for that configuration I'd buy a 70s modded one - seemed to be the fashion at the time & it seriously affects the value so it's a buyers market. I guess it would still be a bit outside your ideal budget.
21. All your wiring options are here http://www.fender.com/support/wiring_diagr...parts_lists.php
22. UPDATE - Having had my emails ignored, I raised it as a partial refund dispute for the £10 through Paypal. The thing was resolved in my favour within 37mins. All a bit silly really as the company could have just done what they said in the first place instead of making me jump through hoops. It's the old adage; good customer service means you tell your friends, poor service means you tell EVERYBODY! Still reslved now, I have a great flight case and at the price they originally quoted me.
23. It completely depends on what you are hoping to achieve. The SPB-3 is better for rockier stuff, I have the SPB-1 in my 57RI P-bass but I'm going for a trad sound. Seymour Duncan & Wizard are the 2 companies I personally use for upgrades as they are always reliable. Thumper & Area 51 by Wizard could also be considerations http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/shop.asp?category=Bass but certainly the SPB-3 is probably going to be a good choice for you
24. You may limit your options when you state a preference for genre though
