Welcome to Basschat. I had the good fortune to drive through rural California a few months ago & it was one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I've sold a few instruments off on EBay recently. The Ebay listing fees are really heavily advertised but what they don't shout about so loudly is the selling fee AND then of course Paypal take a fee too. To be honest I've written such costs off. Other sites just don't seem to sell. Basschat is the only exception & I always make a point of making a contribution - partly in thanks to the mods but also so I don't get disillusioned when things don't sell & I have to go on EBay. I have a couple of slightly higher value instuments that are in my anti-GAS firing line and to be honest I'll probably just resign myself to taking the hit

I think the gloves look great Silddx, I too wasn't sure from the original thread but they work. I assume they just take getting used to?

I had an old Harmony acoustic which was great but definitely better consistancy in budget kit now. No question

I'm fairly new to upright & we occasionally play acoustic gigs where I get to use it. I play country / bluegrass type stuff. At the bigger Art Centre gigs & the local acoustic night I have no problems sound wise but last night I again faced the inexperienced soundman's look of blind panic. I have a shadow pickup in the bridge & usually go through the PA. It sounds great. However with a less confident soundman I can get feedback & struggle to hear myself. My guitarist suggested I get myself a D.I. box and this seems a good idea. Would this be good idea & if so I wonder what the more experienced upright players would recommend? Also what tips can I give an inexperienced soundman to help get a good sound?

Played an acoustic gig (so upright bass) in Reading last night. Usual rock venue so the soundman initially struggled with the less conventional instruments & the onstage sound was at best shocking BUT we went for it & watching friends videos after we were surprisingly good.

As a very small boy I remember wearing out my parents old vinyl records - 60s rock, country & soul. When I hit my teens I was into Glam & punk but as I started to get bored of the newer bands coming through I began to trace the influences of the bands I'd discovered... guess what? I wound up going full circle!

My friend runs the local music shop & he swears by Crafter. He's actually their 3rd biggest stockist in the UK. I've played most of his stock & they are great. Sounds like you got a good deal

I have a fairly high action but tend to play around the bottom end. A good set up makes a world of difference & I found Powerball really helped my stamina

So he gets my vote as an awful bassist.[/quote] Purely as a point of interest, I used to know him when I lived in Watford and he produced a session my band did about 10yrs ago. It's funny seeing him play the basses on TV that I used on the session at the time (I used his gear). He also made me play with a pick whereas I use my fingers normally. He's a good musician actually, maybe just not to your tastes as you say. Minchella is a very tasteful player
