1. In my Glam / Punk days I've fallen off stage drunkenly adjusting my mic stand, kicked my only bass around the stage & broke the nut in what I can only describe as an onstage hissy fit  I've also been so drunk I had to be propped up by the fire exit door - thankfully this was offset by the guitarist crawling across the stage on his hands & knees looking for his dropped plectrum. Luckily I've calmed down a lot now.
I play country.
Me too, but without the shame
2. This week I'd have the following; Gene Clark - vocals Emmylou Harris - Backing vocals Charlie Watts - Drums Jimmi Seiter - Percussion Stephen Stills - Lead Guitar Keith Richards - Rhythm Guitar Skip Battin - Bass Garth Hudson - Piano / Keyboards Sam Bush - Mandolin Doug Dillard - Banjo Ketch Secor - Fiddle Me - Triangle (I'd have to muscle in on this act somehow)
3. Welcome to Basschat Ant
4. You can easily ruin it by getting drunk the first night. Hangovers are much easier when you haven't spent the night with a guitarist suffering from Kebab arse! In theory I don't like sleeping on sofas and inflatable beds in kitchens but I always seem to be the one who is most up for it. Sometimes a travelodge can ease the pain but certainly at my level it really eats into your profits. We were breaking even in Manchester but got to Sheffield and made a pathetic £27 on the door which took the shine off a great lng weekend. We've just cancelled Ireland because it was going to be too expensive. You have to pick the dates carefully. I enjoy it more now than I did originally when I was 20.
5. I like the song & it's nice to see another bassist working with banjos / mandolins & fiddles
6. I guess the need to raise funds means no trades? I have a Rickenbacker 4003 I'd love to trade for a 70s Jazz
7. It's a great feeling when you are in a band that is just "right". Enjoy it
8. Thankfully there isn't too much of this carry on in my record collection
9. You are covered if you paid by credit card. You haven't stated whether you've asked the shop for a refund? It may hurry them along if they don't want to refund you
10. Hi Tom - Welcome to Basschat. The reggae/country thing sounds interesting, it was a bigger crossover in the late 70s but rarer these days. If you have a link I'd love to hear it
11. It completely depends what vibe you are after. I use Seymour Duncan antiquity & Wizard Trad but then I like the vintage tones. Others will be different
12. You can get one off event deals for around £30. Just google it. I have £1m PL insurance through my gear being insured
13. It's a cheaper copy of the tele bass, probably Japanese but definitely not Fender. Welcome btw
14. Stupid boy! That'll get pulled!
15. Welcome to Basschat Sam
16.
If you must all go in on a rig,why not split it up, ie. one of you buys and owns the lights, another buys and owns the monitors etc. At least then, everyone knows who owns what and it makes the inevitable split easier.
Good advice. I've been involved twice in the purchasing of kit as a band. Set the rules at the time & it means you buy people out when you sack them or split. Money can definitely be the end of beautiful relationships
17. The singer in my current band did a Prison gig up in Scotland, Johnny Cash style. I'd also add school assembly back in the 80s was a weird one
18. Surely it all comes down to tastes though? Do you want a chunky neck, slim neck, a lightweight or weighty beast? Is it a modern classic or a vintage dream? Maple or rosewood etc. etc The best P-bass surely is the one that feels right in your hands? And there should therefore be a million different answers here
19. I sell buy-it-now only auctions, set at the price I want. It's amazing how many buyers come to me with low ball bids "I'll buy for 40% of what you are asking" type questions. Stuff usually sells on a relist. I've settled into my kit so I've been selling a lot off. People are spending less.
20. Welcome to Basschat Michael - the trick is to approach the bass as a very different instrument and have fun with it.
21. I'm a recent convert too. Supposed to be a better sound quality but I always used high quality cables anyway so the difference is fairly minimal. You won't get left behind if your sticking with good quality jack to jack though
22. Bass looks good to me and we all started on cheap kit. I agree with Tredders here. Welcome to Basschat
23. We played a Skinhead pub in Brockworth. Not a strange location on the surface but we were a Glam / Sleaze act and as such the locals took objection to us - they did a "carry to the car" service with our gear and even escorted us out of the village. I must have looked tired because at one point a local "passed" me a bar stool whilst we were playing!
24. Sims usually gets raved about here - don't have the link but google them
25. I posted a 50w practice combo the other day and was amazed at just how bad the postage was - £25 on Parcel Force 48. I kind of knew when I saw this, it was just his way of saying "Buyer collects". He is new to the site and doesn't realise you can just select that option. I'd love to know how to get the prices down. I always seem to spend a fortune on postage costs & would love to get it down.
