1. Welcome to Basschat Ondrej
2. I think it looks great, mine just sit in cases and it's a cool storage option
3.
2009 necks became slimmer in April of that year. Early 2009 are supposed to be some of the thickest to date!
My old Rickenbacker was made in January 2009 & the neck was thick like the early 50s P-basses. It was part of the appeal. So that ties in with this.
4. I always liked this bass line from my memories of watching the Chart Show in the 1980s
5. They did indeed have 32" scale length too but I've never seen names for either. I've just asked sellers / owners. I believe they just use the titles medium scale & long scale.
6.
ahh but im not studying! so there is a chance
Just re-read & the words "masters" & "working" do put a different slant on things. I stand corrected
7. The Police were the first band I discovered outside of my parents record collection. Zenyatta Mondatta was my favourite album. I always rated Sting as a bass player. So Lonely, Canary in a Coalmine, Man in a Suitcase. He was working with a great drummer too
8. Welcome to Basschat
9. When I was studying there was no chance of me affording a new bass! I actually think the new standard MIM & USA Jazzes are both stunning. I never liked the MIM standards but since the price hike they have all raised their game. Also the 60s RI & the 70s RI are good fun
10. So far this is just serving to prove if you are an "as & when" type band it really is a nightmare trying to get fitted in on a Wednesday if you don't book a regular slot
11. I don't think anyone's ever posted a Basschat poll without someone complaining! What about those of us who practice as & when due to gigs, shift work, family, own businesses etc?
12. Welcome to Basschat
13. Welcome to Basschat Joe
14. Welcome to Basschat Martyn.
15. First I'd heard. I have a Buffalo Springfield biography on the bookshelf awaiting to be read so it'll be interesting to see if there is any mention of it. Looking at the attached picture seems to support that
16. I like them but being just a smidge shy of 6' 3" I do look a bit silly with one
17. Welcome to Basschat Ben
18. I've used him twice & would always recommend Andy
19. Presumably a Thunderbird, not a Firebird?
20. The Danos are always really good fun but I must confess they never seem to have much staying power & wind up getting sold on quickly (not just my experience but friends too).
21. I do like their 1973 one though
22. Welcome to Basschat Kevin
23. Not tried the current ones or the pair back to back but I own an old 90s USA Ampeg SVT-15E cab & it's my favourite cab I've ever owned. Very retro & very cool. I believe both are now made in the Far East so I don't know if they kept the quality up. I occasionally add an Ampeg SVT 210 cab (also 90s USA) for a bit more punch. I've never heard anyone criticise either cab.
24. Mine is insured for £6k & that's not everything. I am selling a bit off though so it'll probably fall short of the £6k figure. I have a 70s Fender P-bass (£1.5k) & a Rickenbacker 4003 (£1.5k) that helped get that figure up there.
