1. Ouch! Thakfully I bought all my Ampeg gear ages ago I've never bought from them but I always thought Guitar Guitar were pretty competitive though?
2.
The new ones on sale measure 160cm as I asked an EBay seller & are now padded to take the weight of a P-bass more easily Needless to say that seller got a sale!
The seller was wrong. Mines 56" or 142cm so a bit shorter but still long enough to look as cool as fish
3.

I had a mate with one of these. I used it on a few sessions I did for him, sounded great but not to my tastes looks wise. He bought it for £80 considerably under the going rate & when he came to sell it on he couldn't get rid of it! Crazy
4. I've imported about 3 bodies, a neck & a whole bass. Bearing in mind the Godin A4 bass is about a grand you will pay a bit. They then add a ridiculous admin charge too. If the deal is good then go for it but bear in mind taxes. You get a letter first with the required fees & can pay over the phone
5. I'm a massive flats convert & wish I'd tried them years ago. The tone I go for is vintage but I am sure you'd find a sound on your amp & yes, you will seriously reduce finger noise
6. I've ordered too from that link so cheers. It said usually despatches in 24hrs but once I paid it shifted to "should despatch in 2-5 days". Fingers crossed
7. You do kind of buy your way out of it all eventually... not cheap mind. Or buy a really expensive bass & then everytime you see something cheaper your mind tells you it won't be as good.
8. Just a general shot, one of the body & one of the headstock. I may not be able to help but I'll give it a go. I would have thought somebody on here might though
9. A worn in but well preserved Fender Precision bass strung with flats. The reason? I've tried loads of other basses and it just suits what I do. I've accepted it just feels & sounds like "me"
10. Fender Japan is notoriously difficult to tie down. That serial number shows that either your bass is from the Fuji-gen Plant in Japan circa 1993 - 1994 which ties in with what you say BUT also the P serial numbers were re-used from 1999-2002 as well. Obviously if you know the history then it'll be the former. I had a 1999 J-bass with a P serial number. In terms of export / non-export models I think you are more likely to get a correct response with detailed pictures and a bit more info i.e. where it was bought etc.
11.
I'm amazed. Whatever b*llsh*t will they come up with next?
My thoughts exactly
12.
Maybe not, but apparently Osama bin Laden is quite a fan of Chromatics.
Yeah but I can't hum any of his tunes!
13. Hi Paul welcome to Basschat... that has to be one of the best introductions ever! The MIM 70s RI Jazz basses are a lot of fun & playing music is always better after a break (usually a bit shorter than yours mind!)

Hello

Welcome to Basschat - it's a great site for trading gear and advice
15. Welcome to Basschat from another Fender fan

Hi

Welcome to Basschat
17. Bump for Thursday & Friday's gigs. Bristol is 2 sets and we are the only band. Maidenhead is support slot time so get there early to catch us As always it would be good to see any Basschatters down there
18. I would hope there aren't too many on here who honestly believe their clever use of a pentatonic minor scale will stop the war in Afganistan... but you never know!? I guess 20yrs ago I'd hoped amongst other things that I'd get to make a living from music without compromising my tastes. I didn't want to be famous but to work at a cult level would have been nice. Still, no regrets. Ultimately goals change though. I've set myself a few realistic goals 1) done sessions, 2) played on TV, 3) played the Marquee, 4) released a vinyl record, 5) toured. The only one I am yet to do is play abroad. We have some dates booked for Southern Ireland in October and interest from a promoter in the US so hopefully that'll change. Ultimately though my ambition has always been to enjoy playing the music I play and I've achieved that throughout. I'll never be rich, I've seriously compromised my career and a few relationships but it's been fun along the way.
19. I too had a CIJ 75 RI & again no problems. I owned it for nearly 10yrs. It is generally acknowledged with vintage instruments that you should proceed with a bit more caution around 3 bolt. They don't need to be completely avoided but *can* be more problematic
20. I'm happier now with my tone than I've ever been. In the studio I used an old Fender solid state combo blended in with a DI tone & it sounded amazing. Live wise I play Precisions through Ampeg cabs & either a Bassman or Ampeg head. A big part of my sound was sorting out my strings & my fingers though and this should not be underestimated.
21. I put flatwounds on mine (a bit different), don't tend to strum chord shapes & play mainly with my fingers. There are a lot of tones on the Rickenbackers & my 4003 sounds more traditional then that.
22.
Hitchy, every one will say what they like... but what sort of tone are you looking for?? vintage, modern,? do you want silent pups, single coils.. unless we know, we cant help..
You beat me to it! It's a buyers market these days & the world is your lobster. There are a lot of good brands nowadays
23. Since my post on page 1 in December 09, four have become five ...I need to colour coordinate my outfit, y'see (l-r) My Fender Precisions are 1989 MIJ, 2008 CIJ, 1978 USA, bitsa (mainly 70s USA), 2006 USA
