1. I sell buy-it-now only auctions, set at the price I want. It's amazing how many buyers come to me with low ball bids "I'll buy for 40% of what you are asking" type questions. Stuff usually sells on a relist. I've settled into my kit so I've been selling a lot off. People are spending less.
2. Welcome to Basschat Michael - the trick is to approach the bass as a very different instrument and have fun with it.
3. I'm a recent convert too. Supposed to be a better sound quality but I always used high quality cables anyway so the difference is fairly minimal. You won't get left behind if your sticking with good quality jack to jack though
4. Bass looks good to me and we all started on cheap kit. I agree with Tredders here. Welcome to Basschat
5. We played a Skinhead pub in Brockworth. Not a strange location on the surface but we were a Glam / Sleaze act and as such the locals took objection to us - they did a "carry to the car" service with our gear and even escorted us out of the village. I must have looked tired because at one point a local "passed" me a bar stool whilst we were playing!
6. Sims usually gets raved about here - don't have the link but google them
7. I posted a 50w practice combo the other day and was amazed at just how bad the postage was - £25 on Parcel Force 48. I kind of knew when I saw this, it was just his way of saying "Buyer collects". He is new to the site and doesn't realise you can just select that option. I'd love to know how to get the prices down. I always seem to spend a fortune on postage costs & would love to get it down.
8. Welcome to Basschat Thibaut
9. I must confess I'd never even heard of The Incorporated Society of Musicians & I thought I'd been around the band scene long enough to know a bit about most things.
10. It's the downside of bands - I've had 2 messy splits in 22yrs & both took a while for me to get over. It's a shame some band members can't be more grown up. Luckily we're all able to dust ourselves down & get back out there again. Good luck
11. I prefer this outfit! Can't help but wonder what he does when he's not on YouTube... why the 1 string? Sounds good but could he have not just left the other 3 strings alone?
12. Been out a while & very googleable, I'm afraid. Good price, new they go for £3.5k
13. I have owned a January 2009 4003 for 8 months from new and I am now going to trade it / sell it (there's a thread on it BUT I'm posting to answer your question, not to try and sell it to you). It's a great bass but not me, hence the sale. The Q/C at Rickenbacker is sky high. They make less basses and keep the quality up that way. Where they fall down, and it's a mute point, is they don't wipe the necks down properly before varnishing so you get a slightly poor looking finish on the neck. It's purely asthetic and my friend who makes guitars pointed this out to me on mine. Big relief, I'd wondered if the wood was splitting! The neck is a fairly chunky one, lots of tone and surprisingly light. The 33 1/2" scale doesn't feel different to a standard 34" and there is a lot of tone. It's a great bass and I must admit buying it I did feel like I'd entered the world of some exclusive club. If I wasn't so set in my Fender like ways I could see me being a Ricky player but I'm too long in the tooth to change now.
14. I wouldn't worry too much, to go against the other (possibly better!) advice. I was in a band called SkinTrade in the 90s and then a band called The Ex-Boyfriends. Both names have been used since. A lot of bands would change their names to *band name* UK or the London *band name*. If you get to a stage where you are signed your record company lawyers can fight it out. At present you've not received a letter. I don't recall Oasis getting into trouble with the drink of the same name & one may help the others sales. Just my 2 cents...

I too can only echo the wonderfully put sentiments of fellow Basschatters. I didn't know Simon other than through posts and a couple of PMs but I found him to be somebody who's posts I enjoyed reading and one of life's good guys. I feel quite stunned reading this thread and my thoughts are with his friends and family.
16. I think all 3 choices are good. The SVT 7 PRO has a great reputation and I personally swear by all the Ampeg SVT stuff I own but I must confess I haven't tried the SVT 7 PRO personally. I'm too scarred to because if I do, I suspect I'd want to buy one!
17. I hope I'm not a snob. I prefer Fenders but I've tried (& gigged) everything from Epiphones to Rickenbackers - I just keep returning to my original preference. It's all down to taste and there is a strong "Only a Fender" brigade as much as there is a strong anti-Fender mob too. Certainly studio wise if a producer suggested he could get a great sound from an old Hondo bass, I'd run with that. In the last studio session I used an old 80s solid state amp which sounded great. Probably had a resale value of about £50 but the producer knew the studio and the sounds he could get.
18.
You'll be after my Warwick next
Funny you should mention your Warwick, only Helen has these fence posts that she wants me to bang in &....
19. I like both but the tort is an improvement
20. If you are happy it's genuine, that's a very good deal. Some of those Fenders from the 1970s are now topping £2000. Has he taken it apart and varified the parts?
21. Those old Vox standards have cropped up a couple of times in the last few days. You've come this far, you may as well take the plunge! Welcome to Basschat
22.
Found him!!!
Wow!
23. I used to own one of those Vox basses and it was great fun. You were right to put the price up, still a great deal for somebody
24. Welcome to Basschat. I'm still using my MIJ P bass too after 20yrs too
25. A couple more pics
