1. I wouldn't exactly say I'm a one trick pony but I definitely do what I do and to my credit I do it pretty well. I'd like to be more versatile but my time is precious so I opted to focus on doing what I do well rather than spreading what I have thinner. That said I recently did a slightly funky soul pop session which definitely had me playing outside the box and I LOVED it. I have to be realistic though and I will always be the sort of player I am. Hypocrite that I am, I would always advise younger players to develop as much skill and technique as possible to maximise the chances of getting more work and keeping their options open. Great thread btw
2. I guess a lot of us here earn a bit of beer money from our various ventures. We've got pro players on Basschat & we have bedroom players too but I would imagine the majority are people with dayjobs who occasionally earn the odd quid playing with the band. A lot of my gigs have been unpaid but I am now in a position where the band I'm currently with has potential to make a bit of money. Realistically speaking we might make a few hundred quid but it'll never be a case of packing in the dayjob. Legally you are supposed to declare ALL earnings (I'm not naive enough to think most musicans do!) and some employers require you to declare music as a buisness interest. I'm just curious as to who has declared what and if it has been a pain. I'm sure the taxman won't be delighted to see my putting down an addition annual income of £300 a year but my companies policy is it is declared. What problems have people faced or has it been a relatively simple process? If people haven't declared, why not? Just wondering as I expect I am about to open a huge can of worms for myself. Also what tips are there for the semi pro musician? Presumably keep all receipts etc
3.
Look at it this way - It's got to be better than gambling, drinking, taking drugs, or... WOMEN! So welcome to a comparatively clean addiction
Well said that man! And the GAS does pass... or failing that, it calms down
4. I bought it & this was my thread I started. Flippant comments aside, lots of nice pics & some good info. The Fender bass isn't rocket science but such publications ae for suckers like me & I'll always snap them up.
5.
Read this, if you were hoping to be Danko (like me) you won't like it.... http://www.bassplayer.com/article/eastwood...ss/oct-07/31867
Luckily the novelty wore off
6.
For a while I was GAS-ing over their Ampeg AEB-1 copy, the EEB-1.
Yes, me too as I wanted (want!) to be Rick Danko
7. Relax & have fun - may sound odd but it's a damn good start. Try & get on with them as it's more than just the music. Also be guided by what they say. They may want less flash... but go with the flow. Oh & good luck!
8. My original 90s MIJ P-bass is currently divided up across 2 Precisions, both of which are great basses
9. I've owned 3, great basses but just not "me". I'm a big fan of Gibson basses on other players!
10. How about http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOG-FENDER-STYLE-BAS...=item414fada424 ?
11. I too wondered if you just had it recut. I have a bone nut on my original P-bass. It's not an expensive modification but chances are your original one just slipped through the quality control & is an easy fix.
12. Bumping this for a couple of dates at the end of the month
13. I swapped the neck on my original bass recently, from maple to rosewood & it really woke up the monster. Better still, I built another great bass around the old neck. Quite literally win-win
14. It's quite light & the seller was a bit hard done by because it was an old fashioned auction... I stayed up until 3.20am & won it for around a mere £150! It appears genuine too & this has been confirmed This whole project has cost me less than £300
15. Had a few weeks out of Basschat just as I needed to be offline a bit more. I'd acquired a few bass parts and wanted to put together a P-bass. I salvaged the neck from my original 1989 P-bass, bought a 70s USA P-bass body on the 'Bay and pretty much got everything else from Basschat. I liked the 70s thing of stripping the finish so I've taken this back and waxed it up. Gigged it twice at the weekend and it's great. Great Wizard Trad pickup in there and ultra heavy flatwounds. You get the idea. It took me a few evenings to strip the paint, sand it down and wax it up but definitely worth it. It feels more personal than picking something off the wall
16. Onstage over the weekend... this is from our Manchester show.
17. We had Friday in Manchester and Saturday in Sheffield, both great fun. Manchester was poor sound but great crowd and Sheffield was great sound but smaller crowd. My first proper gigs since March as we've been recording but just happy to be playing again (& the album is going great...so far!)

hi

Welcome to Basschat
19. Welcome to Basschat Arjimlad
20. We've been locked away in rehearsals since March which is killing me but we start the follow up to the last album at the end of the month and from July we have gigs in Sheffield, Manchester, Bristol, London, Newport, Dublin etc etc For 2011 we are looking at a tv show in Manchester & a US showcase
21. Welcome to Basschat Kay
22. I think if you like a bass you grow to love the differences you are less used to like different neck profiles
23. I hasten to add my stuff is not for sale... just saying there are a lot of great configurations out there
24. I have 2x10 & 1x15 Ampeg cabs. Both sound great on their own. I also had the BA115U combo for a while which was fine but under your budget by a way
