1. Welcome to Basschat Andy
2. I've worn trilby hats onstage & I don't care that I'm 37. I think wearing a hat is about having confidence. If you feel awkward you will look silly. My singer has taken to wearing a trilby so I don't bother now. I also wore a Derby Bowler for years which was a great look... the band wore suits and I looked like a rock n roll version of Mr. Benn!
3.
Oh I f***ing hate The Rascal Flatts
I always thought Rascal Flats (sic) would be a great username on Basschat! Don't care for the band too much either, although I'm surprised when people in the UK have heard of them
4. I phoned him and asked him when modding by P-bass. He was really helpful. Personally I'd argue that a Jazz bass has a bit of a growl anyway and try his 64's but that's probably based on my own tastes and just reading the few lines you've typed. Give him a call, I'm sure he'll steer you in the right direction. When I get a Jazz eventually I'll no doubt use Wizard.
5. I don't watch the show & don't know the exact format but I think I get the general idea. At the risk of sounding elitist or cult-like, I think what my band does is quite an underground scene so I wouldn't imagine we'd suit the style of the show. But hypothetically our positives would be that we do what we do well - two of the band are professional musicians so the standard of playing is quite high. The downside for us would be firstly alt.country is a bit specialist so we are limited as a band in terms of our appeal and secondly, we are from Reading - why do we sound so American? I can imagine Simon Cowell picking up on that!
6.
I would love for hats to be in fashion for people my age without them trying too hard (which the case seems to be) Bad times
If you look back to the turn of the last century & everybody wore hats. These days it seems only acceptable if it's a baseball cap and ironically perfectly acceptable for the most unathletic to wear sports gear. Bring back the chap!
7. Once maybe twice in the mid 90s but it doesn't happen now... touchwood! I do keep spares although I must confess if one went on my upright I'd be stuffed
8. Looks great - I dread to think how much! Even with the refin etc. Very cool
9. 10yrs isn't bad going in an age where people change employers much more frequently. Personally I'd buy something that I wouldn't normally buy like 4 packets of really expensive strings, rather than the mid range ones I'd normally buy. If your gear is good (& it has been commented on) I think you need to think outside the box a little. Adding a cheap instrument isn't going to cut it so a high quality accessory would be my thought
10. I prefer it straight but I've seen good examples of both flamed & quilted
11. I bought some 1978 Fender tuners off of Chris. They arrived within 24hrs of payment being sent & few can quibble with that!
12. The thing to remember here is you put it where YOU feel comfortable playing. There isn't really a right or wrong answer
13. And useful if you're stuck in an imaginary box too!??!?
14. Both look good but the Rosewood is better in my humble opinion
15. I have the 1978 rosewood fretboard version of that & it's a killer bass. That's a fair price
16. I picked up some 3M dual lock fairly cheap on EBay, it really is the best & it's not an area I'd look to cut costs on. I stopped having to reattach my pedals every time I opened the case. It is pretty strong stuff & yet if pulled hard you can take the pedal off the board pretty easily
17. I have one! A bass playing friend gave me one... I posed for this silly photo and bar posting it online I'd never wear it live!
18. I used to do this in the late 80s but it's more hassle than it's worth for the short life you get out of them. I now belong to the Bilbo club of changing them once a decade
19. I'd go with these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-FENDER-Bass-tune...=item439f14d8c4 but the listing ends soon
20. I have an Ampeg SVT solid state head that I use more than my 1978 Fender Bassman head. Firstly it's lighter and secondly there is less to go wrong. I think I am acknowledging I'm getting a bit older
21. Welcome to Basschat
22.
Felice Brothers Fantastic Band - love 'em
We've had a crack at Whiskey in my Whiskey a couple of times, unrehearsed of course!
23.
Dear Bass Agony Aunt Why, as a woman, do I have to prove myself as a competant musician more than my male counterparts, and why do people always presume I'l be either eyecandy or rubbish? Please help.
I'd love to be eyecandy... In my world I am but like Spinal Tap, the audience is getting much more selective!
24.
I thought the Jaguar had been discontinued from the Fender range? If this is the case, it could move to the Squier range, but more likely than not this is probably someone's wishful thinking.
No, they're still going strong
