1. I'm working on a 70s bass project & have hit a stumbling block. The body I'm working on has has through body routing added and has 4 screw holes around the bridge. However it didn't come with a bridge & I can't find any examples online. Anyone know where I can find one? I would have thought these would have been more common
2. Welcome to Basschat Eddie
3. I too prefer your MySpace. Keeping with the solid black background you could maybe consider a banner. (google MySpace banners) I do ours which is http://www.myspace.com/casehardin which I guess is somewhere between the 2???
4. Welcome to Basschat Carlos
5. I find that quite straight forward. All I did was get a beginners DVD & build up from there before I developed too many bad habits. It's the double slap technique that I really struggle with.
6. I have an old Vox bass that is actually buried in North Watford Cemetary with a guy who died in a road accident (He was a player) so that's one accounted for!
7. Yikes! Hope you don't mind but here it is embedded if people don't want to leave the page...
8. They do look good but out of my range at the moment
9.
Sad as this siiituation is, what about the NHS which has treated a number of us succesfully.
From personal experience, plus one. Obviously my thoughts are with his family too & I make a point of supporting as many cancer causes as I can since my own brush last year
10. The 2 PODs & the MXR Phase pedal are now on the 'Bay
11. Welcome to Basschat Ricky - I think it's the downside of bands, anyone who has been in this game a while has been stitched up by bandmates. Can be pretty low but we do bounce back... & like you say, it's great to be back!
12. This link just cropped up in the right hand ad column of my Facebook page. No idea what the company is like but I liked a couple of the designs and they do seem to have all the bases (ahem!) covered when it comes to, um, basses. 13.
You lot are always getting angry at the telly. Just don't watch the telly!
I don't think anyone is getting angry and there isn't a post on this thread to suggest this is the case. I would agree that there are far better things to do in life than watch TV but a little bit of TV never hurt anyone. I discovered some of my favourite bands through TV and it was TV that made me want to play in the first place, watching music shows (records got me into music, TV made me want to play it). And remember we're all reading this online - starring at a different kind of screen!
14. I like it although I'd prefer it to be less busy with the pickup configuration. I'm sure that bass would fit in with many genres, being an occasional country player myself it's a very small part of the genre that is that showy.
15.
Cheers man, should really sort out my photography though. Any knobs yet?
Nope, 'fraid not. As said I got myself sorted out but it's still annoying that it became one of the increasingly common packages that Royal Mail didn't fancy delivering
16.
Once again it needs to be said playing a musical instrument is not a competition. There is no best...
Superbly put. Stewart Copeland was making some good points. I'd always champion Charlie Watts over Keith Moon but I think generally the public like flash and showmanship over steadiness and solidness. It all comes down to taste. I remember kids at school debating for hours over whether Clapton, Hendrix or Knopfler was the best guitarist and the reality was most of the kids at school didn't know what a chord was. Ultimately it all comes to taste... but there is nothing really wrong with that, debating is the fun part.
17. Looking good Wayne
18.
Oh no!! Not the Flea thread again
It was / is meant to be an "Oh no!! Not the Bass Players neglected by the BBC thread again" actually but I guess it can go that way too
I missed the program - who were the others shortlisted?
That was kind of my point. They never said so you had to go online
I switched on and someone was trying to argue that Slash was the best guitarist. I switched off again.
19. ....Flea, but the bass vote was only given airtime for the end result. Business as usual then! And no surprises
20. I had a Peavey combo from the 80s through to 2005/6. I bought it secondhand for £50, did hundreds of gigs with it & eventually sold it for £120. You can't argue with that... the bloke I sold it to got an electric shock off it too!
21.
... and Leo shows how it's done ...
Great photo
22. Hi Marty, welcome to Basschat
23.
The tug bar isn't the technique, it's the "thumb rest" that's under the strings instead of above them.
D'oh! I did know that - must be having a slow day!!!
24. I haven't played rock stuff in years but Rotosound regular gauge strings worked fine for me at the time.
25. I'm not sure where I've been hiding but I haven't heard that technique called the tugbar before. I have used it myself & occasionally it works really well. Great clip too btw
