1. I would normally have said Stringbusters but GAK have undercut everyone at present. Don't know why
2. I have & do use flatwounds too. I have my oldest P-bass strung with them. I find that although very similar to nylons there is a slight difference. I have one strung with flats, one roundwound & then the nylons. Happy with the black ones but I'd like to see a different colour on the market. I do wonder why they were only made black, there must be a reason?
3. A GREAT string! At the moment with a £1 p&p charge GAK is your best bet http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/rotoso...115-long-s/3661 I wouldn't bother importing from the US as you may get customs charges too
4. Just wondering if they do and if so, does anyone have a link? I love the tone on mine, love the feel and I'm now used to the heavier gauge. However I'd think I'd prefer them to look more traditional on some of my basses. Ever the slave to image... can anyone help? I'd love some silver / grey ones.
5. I wanted a 4001 as it happens but owning one decent vintage bass I thought I'd opt for new and relic it myself slowly over the next 20yrs!
6. Looks great. I was considering getting a custom made effort myself but I think the boiler packing up has put the breaks on that idea for a while. I really like the idea of recreating an old favourite. Cheers for sharing
7. Welcome Mark & remember fashions do go full circle!
8. In terms of listening to music, I've never really connected with music that features bass prominently like funk. I did like stuff where the bass has little florishes that on repeated listening really got inside my head & in my mind made the song. It'd be those bits that I liked. Then in an early band a guitarist said I suited bass because I was 6'3" and I liked that comment at the time. Years later I went on to play guitar for 5yrs until recently. It took me probably 3yrs to stop feeling like a bass player masquerading as a guitarist. Just as I got to that point where I was happy with my lead playing I was offered a gig as a bass player and it just felt natural the moment I hit the first note.
9. And still the snooker runs on!
10. I suspect you'll struggle to get any money without small claims court judging by the attitude & lack of offer. We've all been there & it's not nice.
11. Kent Armstrong is ok but I wouldn't upgrade with them again personally - purely because I've found better since. It depends on your budget & what you are looking for tonally. I like classic vintage tones so the Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and the Antiquity II have boosted 2 of my P-basses. Both excellent. The Antiquities are not cheap though but you might grab yourself a second hand bargain on EBay. I also recently acquired a Wizard trad for my 60s P-bass which has a lovely woody tone.
12. Those strings sound great, I have them on my 62RI
13. First time, eh? GAS is like shin splints - once you get it, it never goes away
14. I doubt bass will get a full episode and suspect any observations made will be done with use of "humour". Deep joy!
15. I assumed (wrongly) that this was going to be the age old problem of soundchecking, nipping out for a bite (copyright Nigel Tufnel) & then being challenged by the door staff when you try to get back in to do the gig. "I'm with the band, honest!" Your situation, quite frankly, is absurd.
16. This week I have mostly been admiring Rick Danko.... .....but keep that mind open folks, next week it'll be someone else!
17. Listing removed - perhaps he needs it for his hoby after all?
18. I had a late 90s Squier Jazz bass in the late 90s which was good. I thought the Korean Squiers had a good reputation
19. I find it encouraging that your bass got a new lease of life with the new neck. I was quite upset when mine started going but feel more optimistic with a new one on order.
20. I have a tube head & a solid state head. I tend to test before I go but for a really important gig I'd take both
21. You changed the neck? Was there a cosmetic reason or did you have a problem? I ask because I have a CIJ P-bass from that era and I'm just in the process of changing the neck now - after 20yrs hard gigging it's given out on me! Great looking bass by the way
22. He's called Mark and he's a one man industry. Top bloke and forget the site name, he's a bass player! I bought my 78 mocha brown P-bass and an Ampeg head. i've met him and played a bunch of his gear. i've also had orders posted out from him. Can't fault him. His prices are what they are, you are paying for quality and if it's duff, he won't sell it. I can't recommend him enough and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again.
23. It's 15yrs since I played there too!
24. Welcome to Basschat. I own a 60th Anniversary P-bass which is great fun.
25. I honestly don't know which might be the worst answer of all. Prior to joining the old Bassworld site it was 5 (2 at a time at most). Currently I own 11 basses which form part of a 25 instrument collection but I've bought & sold on about that amount again.
